Stuff I don't know (and stuff I do)

Lots of stuff happens at my office that I don't know about. And in theory at least I am one of the bosses. So I suppose the Prime Minister might not know about everything that happens at the PMO. But even I know about important crisis things at work. And Senator Duffy's problems certainly count as a crisis. What's more it seems that a fair number of senior people at the PMO were in the loop. Here I repost in a slightly different format my friend Michael Collins' post on "Independence Day" reviewing the thoughts and observations of some truely great American "independents" regarding the meaning of freedom and what must be done to keep it. Cytrynbaum v. Look Communications Inc., 2013 ONCA 455 deals with ongoing funding for litigation defence by former corporate directors and officers for a claim brought by their corporation. Such funding is usually granted pursuant to indemnity agreements. The Court held, however, where there is a strong *prima facie *case of bad faith such funding can be withheld: [54] It is widely accepted that this type of preliminary merits-based assessment is distinct from a final determination of the dispute. Why Is GOP Front Group "Club For Growth" Defending China’s Interests Against Those Of Domestic U.S. Manufacturers?

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 3 hours ago
America’s manufacturing advocates have repeatedly criticized Beijing for deliberately undervaluing its currency, in violation of world trade law. This currency undervaluation helps to artificially lower the cost of China’s exports, while also taxing U.S. products entering the Chinese market. Anger over the currency issue has occasionally flared into heated action on Capitol Hill. In 2005, the U.S. Senate approved a procedural vote to hold China accountable for its currency peg. And in 2011, the Senate actually passed a bill to make currency undervaluation actionable under U.S. tra... more »

People-Powered Coup Is No Setback For Democracy In Egypt

*Source of photo*. The word democracy has been thrown around a lot in relation to the recent explosive events in Egypt. Countries such as Germany have *said* that the removal of President Morsi via military force and massive public protests is a "setback for democracy." First of all, Germany and any nation that is part of the dictatorial European Union has no right to speak for democracy since they don't practice it themselves. How I killed newspapers, Part Two

OK, I didn’t really kill newspapers. But my career began when newspapers were doing extraordinarily well, and continued as they did less and less well. For much of the time, I was in newspaper management. So I’m hardly blameless. Looking back, it’s amazing how many mistakes we made. In my early days at The Red Deer Advocate, we published two 96-page newspapers in the run-up to Christmas. Advertisers needed to use the paper, and we benefited. (The paper made lots of money, circulation was increasing and we were adding newsroom staff every year.) A chunk of that advertising was from big... more »

Iraq Improves On State Department’s Annual Trafficking Report

Gay rights is part of a development plan too

Jody Paterson at A Closer Look: Jody Paterson - 11 hours ago
As crazy as this sounds now, I didn’t think about the existence of gay people until I was 24. My high school class at school had a couple of really great teachers who we all knew had been “roommates” for decades, and perhaps I had a few thoughts about such things at that time. But it wasn’t until I walked into a Courtenay bar in 1981 with a very pretty male friend of mine that it sunk in, what with all the male attention he got. | It was one of those, “Wow, really?” moments that changes your world view in an instant. I had to rethink everything I thought I knew. But from th... more »

What would men like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Thomas Paine, and other leading figures who fought and liberated this country from British tyranny - physically and intellectually - have to say about contemporary America? Considering America has morphed from a beacon of freedom, liberty, honor, and rugged individualism into a tyrannical Orwellian Nanny state corrupted and controlled by foreign criminal elements, engaged in a never ending war against a faceless, manufactured enemy, the leading men who founded this once great nation would not even recognize the co... more »

What Happened to Independence from Tyranny?

noreply@blogger.com (Mark Daniels) at Global Political Awakening - 12 hours ago
Gaye Levy Independence Day in the United States is a day that is commonly known as the 4th of July. Officially, it is a day to celebrate our declaration of independence from Great Britain in the year 1776. Sadly, for many it is just a day off of work to spend with family and friends, celebrating summer, hot dogs, ice cream and beer. For the last two years, I have written about this day and, to be honest, there is not much that is new that can be added to what I have previously said. Rather than start over, today I bring back an article from July 4, 2012. Everything I said still a... more »

Why Rulers Can't Govern - See: Morsi, Mohamed

*WWPD? What Would Pharaoh Do?* Egypt's first democratically elected president, Mohamed Morsi, is out, deposed by his country's generals for failing to address the Egyptian people's unrest. Just the other day I was reading in the Jew spew news here in Canada about a "terrorist" plot that was "foiled" in British Columbia, Canada. The news (if you can call it that) stated that these "terrorists" wanted to "blow up" of all things.. The BC Legislature in Victoria, on Vancouver Island. After reading the article go on and on about these so called "terrorists" and how they were "inspired" by (of course) "Al-Qaeda", I knew we were looking at another fraud false flag in Canada that is just as ridiculous as the last one where several "Muslims" were going to blow up a train in ... more »

Explicating the Broad Prize Trophy

For the second year running, KIPP, Inc. has been snubbed in their lathered quest for the Broad (rhymes with Toad) Charter Reform School Prize. Austerity Kills

Owen Gray at Northern Reflections - 16 hours ago
In their book, *The Body Economic: Why Austerity Kills*, David Stuckler and Sanjay Basu demonstrate that, around the world, austerity has had devastating consequences on public health. Consider what economic shock therapy accomplished in the Soviet Union: The Soviet economy collapsed in the early 1990s, erasing countless jobs. Ironically, those still working in public health kept good records of the disaster. Stuckler and Basu studied death certificates and found that "The rate of death rose by a disconcerting 90 per cent among the subgroup of men aged twenty-five to thirty-nine, ... more »

This year, finally, I’ve decided that the small face of liberty up there on this blog’s masthead really has to go. July 4, 2013, American Independence Day, seems the appropriate day in which to begin the process—because the America that Lady Liberty once represented is now dead, and the symbol that more properly represents her now is no longer an image of liberty.
