Will Americans Allow Public Water to Be Privatized?
"Although I applaud the administration’s efforts to convene a discussion about the enormous need to invest in our nation’s aging infrastructure, I was discouraged that much of the meeting focused on promoting public-private partnerships and attracting more private financing for public water systems.
Throughout the meeting, a misleading notion was continually raised that using private capital to fund water systems somehow constitutes an innovative approach to financing. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Time and again, municipalities and consumers have suffered under privatized water systems.
As if attempting to package and sell privatization as a new trendy approach isn’t alarming enough, the chief financial officer of American Water, the nation’s largest water company, added insult to injury when she asked about the status of the company’s proposal that the Internal Revenue Service modify its rules to allow companies that take over privatized municipal water systems to retain public tax benefits on the system’s existing Modifying the tax code to allow private companies like American Water to receive the same tax benefits on its financing as our public, local governments would not level the playing field. It would give companies an unfair and unjustified advantage. Worse, unlike with local governments, there is no guarantee that lowering the borrowing costs for private companies will result in greater investments in our water systems or lower water rates for consumers. The companies could just pocket most of the savings, using the lower debt costs to rationalize higher returns. That means we would sacrifice tax revenue to pad the profits of the water privatization industry.
We have to keep tabs on their next moves and continue to protect our water systems. At the end of the day, privatizing our public water systems is not an innovative approach to delivering clean, safe, affordable water to U.S. communities. Instead, we should stick to a tried and true method—keeping water in public hands. If we want to talk actual innovation, why not establish a steady source of federal funding for community water systems so no municipality ever has to entertain the notion of privatizing its water.

Bridge the Gulf and Real Coastal Warriors shared a link.
3 Years after BP's oil disaster killed 11 men and spewed oil into the Gulf for 87 days, a 43,000 pound tar mat made of sand and oil was removed from Louisiana waters and more tar mats were found last week. As a result, the Louisiana's Wildlife and Fisheries Department closed nearby areas to fishing.
And BP says this makes the State of Louisiana look bad....

The Destruction of the Huaguang Community
Right now in Texas, a foreign corporation, TransCanada, is using our government's 5th Amendment right of eminent domain to confiscate private land belonging to Americans, to build a massive oil pipeline so TransCanada can ship oil from the Gulf of Mexico to non-Americans around the world. Oil, by the way, that will accelerate our planet's plunge into global warming-induced catastrophe. So the question is, "Why?"

BRAZORIA COUNTY, TX -- Two women had the inside of their crotches searched on the side of the highway, thanks to the dutiful enforcement of tyrannical drug prohibition laws.
Officers pulled the women over for speeding on their way home from the beach. Of course, traffic stops are just the excuse a good enforcer needs to begin fishing for reasons to throw people in cages.
After finding a small amount of forbidden plants in the vehicle, officers weren't satisfied. They wanted more. The two women, dressed only in bikinis, were told they were going to get an internal body cavity search.
"Are you serious," Brandy Hamilton asked the trooper.
"If you hid something in there, we're going to find it," said the trooper.
"You're going to go up my private parts?!" Hamilton said.
"Yes ma'am."
The women say that the same glove was used to violate all of their orifices.
There are truly no limits to the amount of terror and tyranny that are created by the fascist Drug War that plagues the country.
Brandy Hamilton and Alexandria Randle are suing the officers involved.

LIVING in a GAS FIELD
From NO Fracking Way, by Chip Northrup
There are no protections from shale gas infrastructure in New York. Key New York politicians have been bought off and the New York regulators will hit the revolving door to the industry as soon as they start handing out drilling permits. The setback of a gas compressor from a daycare center is New York is ZERO. The required setback of a gas processing plant from an office is ZERO in New York. The mandatory setback of a high pressure gas gathering line from a house in New York is . . . .wanna make a guess ? (Hint: rhymes with ‘Nero’)

Before you know it, the landscape looks like the map below. This is a map of most of the permanent shale gas industrial installations in NE Fracksylvania – available online and interactive here:

And then you can watch as the air and water go bad and the hardware goes kaboom nextdoor:
Explosion at gas well site injures 8 in W.Va.
Next to someone’s daycare center, office, motel, warehouse, etc. Or your house.
Because there were no setbacks for any of those. ‘Cuz the frackers didn’t want any. Imagine that.

A young man in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, attempted to uphold his constitutional rights to an engraged officer this Independence Day, at a DUI checkpoint.
As the man in the video pulls up, officers immediately demand he roll down his window further, to which the man refuses, a right he is entitled too.
The officer then demands to know the man’s age, to which the driver also refuses. The officer then lies to the driver, telling him that he is required to give his age despite there being no law stating you must give an officer your date of birth if not being legally detained.
The officer then orders the driver to pull over to a secondary area for further investigation despite no concrete probable cause or reasonable suspicion that the driver is intoxicated or engaged in illegal activity.
“Am I being detained?” the driver asks.
The officer becomes enraged almost instantly, refusing to answer the man’s question, knowing full well he has to legally let the man go.
After the driver’s car is surrounded by officers, who are now attempting to intimidate the driver into complying, the driver decides to pull up to the secondary checkpoint.
The officer then orders the driver out of the car, continuing the illegal detainment.
“Are you an attorney or something? You know what the law is?” the officer asks.
The officer, knowing he can’t search the car without the driver’s permission, demands access to the vehicle, which the driver refuses as well.
Officers then unleash the K9 Unit, now searching for drugs at a DUI checkpoint. During the entire incident, no questions regarding alcohol were brought up to the driver.
At 3:56 in the video, the officer appears to make the dog give a “false positive,” making it seem as if the dog found drugs in order to illegally gain access to the man’s vehicle, despite the fact that there were none in the vehicle.
As officers enter the man’s car illegally, officers notice the mans video camera on the seat and instantly become silent. The officer searching the vehicle then grabs the man’s camera and turns it the opposite direction, hiding his actions.
Despite the officer’s admission that the driver is well within his rights, he continues to ignore them throughout the entire encounter.
“He’s perfectly innocent and he knows his rights. He knows what the constitution says,” the officer says to his superior as he searches the mans vehicle illegally.
While most everyone agrees on the importance of keeping drunk drivers off the streets, it can not be done while defying and ignoring the constitution.
As social media and the internet continues to educate citizens on their rights at government checkpoints, officers are now beginning to engage a growing and informed public.
