DISCUSSING THE PIVOT
I did three talks yesterday to just over 50 people in three separate groups
in Manila and Quezon City. They were students, teachers, labor organizers,
and from women’s groups. It about wore me out but I enjoyed the day very
much.
It was so reassuring to find that these folks were interested in hearing
about space issues and my take on the Pentagon “pivot” into the
Asia-Pacific.
At each meeting I handed out information about Keep Space for Peace Week
(October 5-12) and was happy to hear real interest in organizing some
events in Manila during that time.

The question, as ever, remains 'Is the BBC biased?'
How can we tell though? How can we guard against seeing the BBC as biased

One way might be to look back over last week and list the main talking

of falling in love, and also about the mystery of being alive.

Did you know that the total number of unemployed workers in G20 counties is
now up to 93 million and that it is increasing with each passing day? You
see, the truth is that the United States is not the only one dealing with a
systemic unemployment crisis. This is literally happening all over the
planet. So what is causing this crisis? Is there any hope that it will be
turned around? Well, unfortunately there are several long-term trends that

America's a police state. It's ruthless. Iron fist authority rules.
International law's quaint and out-of-date. US statute protections aren't
worth the paper they're written on.
Constitutional rights don't matter. They never did for most people. It's
truer now than ever. They're null and void. Executive diktat power rules.
Congress and federal courts go along. They're complicit.
They support sweeping lawlessness. It's unprecedented. It affects domestic
and geopolitical issues. No one's safe anywhere.

Amid War Threats, US Troops Prepare for Seizing Syria’s Chemical ArmsTraining

Military training missions are rarely newsworthy. Confirmations yesterday
that the Obama Administration is considering attacking Syria, however,
makes the mission focusing on seizing Syria’s chemical arsenal particularly
important.
The 82nd Airborne is training in North Carolina this week with an explicit
eye on capturing Syrian chemical weapons, and if the US does invade Syria,
that’s going to be a major mi... more »

The federal government’s approach to criminalizing just about everything
reminds me of how that same entity contends that just about everything is

Michigan judge halts Detroit bankruptcy because it dishonors Obama
POSTED AT 5:11 PM ON JULY 19, 2013 BY ALLAHPUNDIT
Angela Corey should have tried this argument with Judge Nelson. 50/50 shot,
no?
Alternate headline: “Government in Detroit somehow worse than thought.”
Aquilina, who granted the restraining order, clearly was irked.
Prior to her ruling on Friday, she criticized the Snyder administration and
Attorney General’s Office for what appeared to be hasty action to outflan... more »

Harumph! Kids These Days! On Changing Our Tone About Young People
“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in
which it treats its children.” - Nelson Mandela A lot has been said in the
media lately about the degeneration of our youth and their seeming lack of
moral character, their resulting destructive behavior, and their defiance.

My tuppence for the debate going on over at the IS about employing someone
to do some temporary admin work. It wasn't added to the main body of
documents to save space... that's what I was told anyway. Maybe I'm being
oppressed by a bureaucrat, who knows? Anyway, no sense in letting it go to
waste when there's space to fill:
The first thing to say is I am surprised at the vehemence of this argument.
Perhaps I should not be. We have, after all, just come out of the SWP.
Full-time, employed members (even the part-time ones) were seen as a
fundamental driver to the SWP’s current predica... more »

Who's The Real Cancer On The Ass of The Republican Party These Days?
Neo-fascist Denver oil heir/billionaire Philip Anschutz owns 2 far right
propaganda sheets in DC, the *Weekly Standard* and the *Washington
Examiner*(which failed as a newspaper as of June 14 and is currently
just a bizarre
right-wing blog). Anschutz, who is being sued for his role in the death

millions of dollars into destroying the lives of gay men and women.
Anschutz and his front groups have also poured hundreds of thousands of
dollars into electoral campaigns on behalf of far right extremists like

Open Letter to Congress on ESEA Reauthorization
Updated 7:50 a.m . July 20 To Members of the 113th Congress: I write to
express my concerns regarding the various versions of the new ESEA now

The Economy: “Larry Summers' Bad Bet”

*“Larry Summers' Bad Bet”*
by Bill Bonner
“We interrupt our regular programming to speak out in favor of Larry
Summers; he is the perfect candidate to replace Ben Bernanke. Poor Larry…
The critics are on his case. One called him a “high IQ moron.” No one likes
to kick a man when he’s down. Unless the man on the ground is Larry
Summers… More on that in a minute…
First, a quick look at the markets. As expected, the Fed is fully,
squarely, 1,000% committed to EZ money. Why? Because huge public policy
disasters do not stop until they’ve gone all the way to the end. Like a

In Forest They Smiled
"A human population approaching 7 billion can be maintained only by
desolating the Earth. If wild habitat is given over to human cultivation
and habitation, if rainforests can be turned into green deserts, if genetic
engineering enables ever-higher yields to be extorted from the thinning
soils—then humans will have created for themselves a new geological era,
the Eremozoic, the Era of Solitude, in which little remains on the Earth
but themselves and the prosthetic environment that keeps them alive."

Obama's Identity Crisis
It seems that Barry is getting jealous of Trayvon Martin. Sick though it
is, it is typical dictators with messianic complexes to become envious
when someone steals the headlines from them. Obama couldn't resist and had
to take back the attention apparently by saying that "Trayvon could have
been me 35 years ago."
I don't know about that but he certainly is a dead-ringer for Frank
Marshall Davis.
Emmy's snub the Walking Dead
Some people call it genre elitism.
It seems pretty accurate when you consider the #1 TV on television is The
Walking Dead - which is technically a drama, and not so much an action show
as some people might think - has been snubbed by the Emmy's again.
Emmy nominations this year gave more attention to Netflix and a lot of
female dramas - but it has completely ignored the AMC's smash drama hit The
Walking Dead which hasn't received a single nomination despite being the
best show on television in the key 18 to 49-year-old demographic.
Less quality programs like Scandal and Nashville ... more »
It's That Time of the Month Again
Or what passes for it at our age.
It's currently 98 degrees in Massachusetts, about 10 degrees higher
than Mrs. JP's old stomping grounds of Vero Beach, Florida, if you can
believe that. Cheapskate that I am, yours truly couldn't hold out any
longer and recently set up the trusty little 3700 BTU AC in the bedroom
window. But even that's going to drive up our electric bill since we have
to run it at least 12 hours a day. And that's not going to help with the
rent due in less than two weeks.
So any assistance you guys can offer between now and then will be

Federal government at fault for Lac-Megantic train wreck
July 19th 2013 - According to investigators a complete lax of safety
protocols in recent years is at fault for the Lac-Megantic train wreck in
Quebec. At which point investigators looked to see who is at fault for the
lowering of safety standards.
Turns out it is the Federal Ministry of Transport, aka Transport Canada.
Canada’s Transportation Safety Board has recommended federal regulators
urgently review railway safety procedures in the wake of the runaway train
that killed 50 people in Lac-Mégantic, Que., earlier this month.
The TSB announced today that it has issued two urge... more »

*In search of what made Dzhokhar tick:* Why did Dzhokhar Tsarnaev do the
things he apparently did?
We can’t tell you that. But we were surprised by the lack of imagination
from Digby. She posted a set of speculations by Michael Shaw.
The list of speculations strikes us as weirdly limited:
SHAW (7/18/13): Rather than write off these people as evil and “other,”
what distinguishes us as a civilized society is the attempt to understand
who and why...*I mean, why did someone as personable as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

As our concept of family changes, questions are initiated. Does a new
soul family negate the importance of the one we’ve always known? What will
happen to the relations we share right now, our parents, spouses, children
and numerous extended family members? Many of us relate to the feeling of
isolation and lack of understanding in our light/life’s work. Does this
soul family “calling of the clan” mean it’s time to move on? To leave
those we love?
Yes and no. Yes, it is time for movement. No, leaving anyone you love is
not necessary or preferable. This is the age of u... more »
Dr David Kelly - 7/7 bombings - patsy syndicate culture
THIS JUST IN, FROM DAVID ICKE on the Isle of Wight:
Crime syndicates can only function by employing criminals and others who
are terrified of the consequences of defying the orders of the criminals.
The State is just the same. Crime syndicates survive by destroying the
opposition and killing anyone with the knowledge and inclination to bring
them down. The State is just the same.
The great advantage that State organised crime has over the other variety
is that while crime syndicates can have insiders on the payroll within the
police here and there the State owns the police, the mi... more »
