We love couscous in our house. This soft grain is delicious and can be
made to taste so many different ways. This version with a hint of lemon is
perfect to pair with BBQ. It is easy to prepare and takes less than 20

1/2 cup and 1 Tablespoon couscous
1/2 cup water
1 1/2 teaspoon olive oil
1 Tablespoon lemon juice

I checked around a bit on this story and it is out there on the

This is likely more than you ever wanted to know about working with
coconut but it is worth it. Most of our foods require a breaking in

This is actually early days in this research and the method described is
certainly promising. No clue here though as to how promising yet. It may
well solve the hydrogen production cost problem with water and that is
certainly beneficial.
Hydrogen is still not the most convenient fuel to work with because it
difficult to contain although it can be done. The reason natural gas is so
convenient is that it can be shipped. In fact, it happens to be a great
retainer of hydrogen.

The fact is that raw milk is a living product that generally eliminates
its own problems so long as it is not negligently overloaded. I suspect
that pasteurization seriously weakens milk.
How this situation might be ultimately reversed remains to be seen
although the rising strength of producer milk operations could do it.
This can lead to new distribution systems that help enhance human health.

This is a reminder that the critical aspect of human intelligence is the
capacity to transmit data. All other aspects I find well represented among
animals. In fact as well represented as in most of humanity. I even

Extreme Weather Tied To Unusual Jet Stream
Yes the Northern hemisphere has been somewhat warmer over the past twenty
years, sea ice has continued to steadily decline by an annual delta H and
the jet stream has become much more responsive and interesting.
Our problem is not understanding how they are all linked. Having the
temperature changes act to draw the jet streams north might explain the
increase in variability through natural compression.
The bigger problem is that it is all subtle and any isolated factor is

Recent Thunderbird Sighting
We have here yet another recent witness report on a huge bird by a
qualified witness. Rather importantly, it cleanly went to ground in heavy
woodland. This is as I posted its natural refuge as it does not appear to
be a visible high altitude soarer, but a ground skimming nocturnal hunter
like a giant owl.
Thus the skirts of a large evergreen would provide perfect daytime cover
and jack rabbits an excellent food source.

Permafrost Change
This is an interesting question. Just how stable is the permafrost.
Particularly as it could actually be a remnant of the Ice Age itself. It
may still be in the long process of simply disappearing by cycling back and
forth over centuries.
In the event, it nicely explains the long release of CO2 in the post Ice
Age geological record that has been observed over millions of years. This
release cycle typically last over several centuries.

Biggest Dead Zone Ever Forecast in Gulf of Mexico
This is a a problem that will go away once we make a full conversion to
biochar based soil management. It obviously cannot happen too soon.
The biochar sequesters the nutrients until called upon and prevents losses
into the groundwater.
In the meantime we have no national will to do much because no one appears

The June 30 revolution in Egypt reflected the gathering of more than 32
million people who gathered in more than 19 public squares all over Egypt.
The purpose behind such a popular mass protest was to call on President

US law is explicit when it comes to making considerations about giving aid
to foreign governments that have come to power via a coup – that government

Who says Boehner's House of Dysfunction can't get anything done? Why just
today Republicans rescued America from freedom robbing energy efficiency.
The House on Wednesday voted to block the enforcement of light bulb
standards that many say would effectively force people to buy more
expensive compact fluorescent bulbs.
Just like last year, Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) proposed the language
as an addition to the energy and water spending bill. His language
prohibits the use of any funds at the Department of Energy to implement the

How to save newspapers
I’ve painted a grim future for newspapers in the last few posts.
So what can be done?
One option for companies is to cash out. Cut costs, raise rates, make as
much as possible for and then sell the assets and walk away.
But let’s assume owners see value in the brands. Postmedia took in $830
million last year and generated positive cash flow. If newspapers can slow
the revenue decline, trim expenses to fit a new model and find new
audiences, they might have a viable, though much smaller, future.

Self-Improvement Week: Fitness and Exercise
This is an area in which Southern Man is sadly lacking. Since moving out to The
Land last summer he's had a gym membership (and he goes to said gym nearly
every morning to shower) but has made little use of the exercise
facilities. *This has got to change*. It's not that Southern Man doesn't
get a fair amount of exercise - keeping up with ten acres is hard work -
but he needs to be in a regular fitness and stretching routine to repair
