Krugman Warns of China's Unstable Economy. Will Ottawa Listen?
Maybe Steve Harper picked a bad moment to bind Canada's economic future to
China's. The way Paul Krugman sees it, China has a structural time bombwithin its economy and it's ready to blow:
*China ...seems to invest only to expand its future ability to invest even
more. America, admittedly on the high side, devotes 70 percent of its gross
domestic product to consumption; for China, the number is only half that
high, while almost half of G.D.P. is invested. *
*How is that even possible? What keeps consumption so low, and how have the
Chinese been able to invest so much without (unti... more »
Legendary White House Correspondent, Helen Thomas, Dead at 92
She covered every administration from Kennedy to Obama and ruffled a few

*Helen Thomas, whose bottomless curiosity and unquenchable drive made her a
prominent White House reporter at a time when men dominated the profession,
died Saturday at her apartment in Washington. She was 92. *
*Her blunt questions and sharp tone made her a familiar personality not
only in the sometimes parochial universe inside the Beltway but also to
nationwide television audiences. *

It's not the custom of people my age to go back and re-educate themselves
on economics and I know why - ugh! I thought I understood economics from
three or four Econ courses I did in undergrad (psst, I did really, really
well on them too).
Here's the thing. In universities around the developed world they're
still teaching the same orthodoxy they taught me - and it's wrong. We
didn't see it in my student days but you have to work hard *not* to see the
contradictions, omissions and outright fallacies in classical economics in
the context of today's reality.

*I know that Eric Holder is reviewing what happened down there, but* *I

Traditionally, these are issues of state and local government, the criminal

levels, not at the federal levels. That doesn't mean, though, that as a
nation we can't do some things that I think would be productive. So let me
just give a couple of specifics that I'm still bouncing around with my

America's a police state. It's ruthless. Iron fist authority rules.
International law's quaint and out-of-date. US statute protections aren't
worth the paper they're written on.
Constitutional rights don't matter. They never did for most people. It's
truer now than ever. They're null and void. Executive diktat power rules.
Congress and federal courts go along. They're complicit.
They support sweeping lawlessness. It's unprecedented. It affects domestic

The Economy: “Larry Summers' Bad Bet”

*“Larry Summers' Bad Bet”*

“We interrupt our regular programming to speak out in favor of Larry
Summers; he is the perfect candidate to replace Ben Bernanke. Poor Larry…
The critics are on his case. One called him a “high IQ moron.” No one likes
to kick a man when he’s down. Unless the man on the ground is Larry

First, a quick look at the markets. As expected, the Fed is fully,

"A human population approaching 7 billion can be maintained only by
desolating the Earth. If wild habitat is given over to human cultivation

Obama's Identity Crisis
It seems that Barry is getting jealous of Trayvon Martin. Sick though it
is, it is typical dictators with messianic complexes to become envious
when someone steals the headlines from them. Obama couldn't resist and had
to take back the attention apparently by saying that "Trayvon could have
been me 35 years ago."
I don't know about that but he certainly is a dead-ringer for Frank
Marshall Davis.
Emmy's snub the Walking Dead
Some people call it genre elitism.
It seems pretty accurate when you consider the #1 TV on television is The
Walking Dead - which is technically a drama, and not so much an action show
as some people might think - has been snubbed by the Emmy's again.
Emmy nominations this year gave more attention to Netflix and a lot of
female dramas - but it has completely ignored the AMC's smash drama hit The
Walking Dead which hasn't received a single nomination despite being the
best show on television in the key 18 to 49-year-old demographic.
