Some Headlines Just Rub You the Wrong Way
Neil Macdonald doesn't appear to be the worst thing that the CBC foists upon his. But the blurb for this editorial really rubbed me the wrong way. IMF head Christine Lagarde, former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, religious activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali — all smart, conservative women being 'disinvited,' shouted off university podiums. What gives in America's halls of learning? Did you catch it? I mean, I don't know much about the other two women, but Condoleezza Rice as "smart"? She of the "smoking gun in the shape of a mushroom cloud" mixed metaphor? Her of the "birth pangs of a n... more »

Heres a story they’re pushing like mad on Sky. Police to Patrol More Than 100 Polling Stations. Why would that be? And where? In the third world one might think. No, it’s here. In “predominantly Asian areas” What was that? Wash your mouths out you racists at Sky! Nothing on the BBC as far as I can tell. But I didn’t listen to the Today programme this morning, and now they’ve made the Today website impossible to search (must be the cuts) I can’t swear the BBC is ignoring it. I’m hoping there’s not too much intimidation round my hideously white neck o’ the woods because I might have ... more »

Craig and I are sorry to observe that John Laurenson, whom Craig formerly regarded as fair, and shall I say... ‘healthy’ - is showing some worrying symptoms. I can only assume Laurenson has succumbed to a contagion that is sweeping the country - shall I say ... a pandemic? Diagnosis: an acute case of BBC groupthink. Prognosis :uncertain. If these opening remarks strike you as alarmist, and - shall I say obscurantist ... very sorry indeed, but read BBC Watch and all will be revealed. China tests S-300PMU-2 missile
[image: S-300PMU-2]An air defense brigade of the People's Liberation Army in the Jinan Military Region test-fired its S-300PMU-2 surface-to-air missile introduced from Russia on May 2, according to our sister paper Want Daily. China Military Online, the official website operated by the PLA, published a photo of the exercise taking place in the Bohai Sea region. Designed based on the S-300PMU-1, the S-300PMU-2 has a range of between three to 200 kilometers and is capable of intercepting targets at between 10 and 27,000 feet. The report indicates that the S-300PMU-2 has between an 8... more »
The Lowest Prescription Price Possible and a $25 Visa Giftcard Giveaway
For whatever reason, I have always assumed that prescription prices were the same across the board. If my prescription costs $5 at Walgreens, it must cost $5 at CVS too, right? The first time I filled a prescription at a different pharmacy after we moved and my regular prescription was almost $5 cheaper, I was floored. Now I know to shop around for everything, including prescriptions. In order to shop around for prescription prices, you used to have to call each pharmacy, give them your prescription information and have them look up your information. The Ballad of Geeshie and Elvie
In some regards it is a miracle that so much of traditional music was salvaged, including the good with the doubtful. That artists also slipped through the cracks was also inevitable. That great voices have never been heard is attested to today in shows like America’s got Talent and its like. What I do want to see more of is a mandated local content rule as part of broadcast licensing. It worked wonderfully in Canada and applied in some form everywhere makes perfect sense. It could be even be driven by a distance formula, just for fun. After all, distance has controlled ph... more »
Magma rising in Washington State's Mount St. Helens volcano
There does not appear to be anything to be concerned with, but what impresses me is the development of seismic mapping and ongoing dynamic modeling of an active volcano. This is all very good news. It means that we have scant excuse to ever again be blindsided as happened originally back in 1981 when no one understood that rapidly increasing potential energy had the be violently released and volcanos and atomic bombs are not noted for channeling their energies safely. We still have folks who know much better taking excessive risks around volcanoes. After all, if you find your... more »

Raytheon's Excalibur Ib moves closer to full rate production
Raytheon Company and the U.S. Army completed Initial Operational Test and Evaluation (IOT&E) for Excalibur Ib during a series of successful tests. This milestone moves the program one step closer to full rate production. During IOT&E, artillerymen from Fort Riley's 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery fired numerous Excalibur Ib rounds, scoring several target hits and averaging less than two meters miss distance. "Excalibur's performance and reliability continues to reach new levels in every test event," said Lieutenant Colonel Josh Walsh, U.S. Army Excalibur Product Manager. Read ... more »

Russia conducts test-launch of ballistic missile
[image: SS-27 Topol-M]Russia today carried out a successful test-launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile, news agencies reported citing the defence ministry, amid a standoff between Moscow and the West over Ukraine. Interfax and ITAR-TASS quoted the defence ministry as saying a successful test of the RS-12M Topol ICBM had been carried out from Russia’s Kapustin Yar rocket launch site near the Caspian Sea at 2238 IST (1708 GMT). The missile hit its target in the Sary Shagan ballistic missile test range that Russia leases in Kazakhstan, it said. Read more

Military budget: Four ways US lawmakers are blocking Pentagon cost-cutting
[image: USS George Washington]The Pentagon is under considerable pressure to cut spending, but while top defense officials and military analysts are in general agreement about where those cuts should be, Congress often balks. As the defense budget comes up for debate on Capitol Hill this week, the House Armed Services Committee has already voted to block many of the cost-saving measures proposed by the Pentagon. Human Stem Cells Used to Repair Damaged Monkey Hearts
Unbelievably they have actually done it. They have been able to restore failed heart tissue with new tissue in a substantial manner. This was one of the original dreams when stem cells were first recognized three decades ago. Now we are seeing real delivery. The next decade will see the full advent of therapeutic tissue replacement become standard. It will also see teeth replacement and bone replacement as well. That is not a lot of time. Earth Angels - Transcript May of 2014
My daughter Kimberlee is able to identify and communicate with what we will call Earth Angels. As they themselves state, they are separate from spirit, good or evil which contain souls and are integral to our presence on Earth. My present position is that the soul represents the meta mathematical operator of the ideal, while spirit represents the messy experience of free will associated with the individual soul. I am also becoming much more clearly and rigorously informed. This is the first such transcript. Once I understood that Kimberlee was successfully transcribing inf... more »
How to Make Graphene in a Kitchen Blender
What I find intriguing is that a suspension is produced. It may be possible to charge up a receptive layer that acts as an attractor and generates a skin of graphene. This could then be treated in order to set the layer and then processed to remove all but a single layer. The whole process can then be repeated again and again until a near continuous layer less than three thick is produced. This can generate high volumes of sheet graphene and through continuous milling we may produce a continuous ribbon. With that most anything else can be realistically fabricated including ... more »
Carrington-class CME Narrowly Misses Earth
Obviously Earth has not been hit with a large Carrington class event 1859 and that has been just as well. The chances of been hit is not zero but since we now have detection capability for perhaps a decade and we have seen one major event, the events themselves are rare. If an event covers one degree of arc and we have a decadal prevalence, then we are facing real probabilities of once every thousand years or so. We can tighten this up but the mere gap of one hundred and fifty years since the last event tells us that the odds are not so bad at all. Yet it is foolish to be unpro... more »
Brain implant to Restore Memory?
Oh really. The one thing coming soon will be the bill. This work is as tentative and speculative as any I have ever seen. At best they hope to someday be able to restore physical damage at least and perhaps this can lead to fresh access. I suspect we are really looking at decades of brain mapping and experimentation in order to discover promising methods. Not least we can start with reversal of concussion damage and scar tissue removal. This is our biggest challenge and it provides the best payback. This is the beginning however, of the beginning. *Coming soon: a brain im... more »

12 Brightest Dog Breeds
I grew up working with a border collie and have absolutely no doubt. He ended up organizing the local dog pack and then proceeded to run down foxes in our locale. This made for a confrontation one bright morning with an angry fox who seriously wanted to pick a fight one on one. I would not contemplate working with animals without a border collie assisting. I am now pretty sure that they do read our minds rather well. That happens to be the best and simplest explanation for the behavior I observed. Most dogs no longer have active working lives which is a shame. *12 Bright... more »
Egyptian Secret to Moving Huge Pyramid Stones
This is not the whole story of course but it is certainly part of the story and a very important part. It allows a sand roadbed to be constructed from the block making locale to the pyramid for direct haulage in order for the blocks to be stockpiled in preparation for construction. I had anticipated a canal, but this would work quite as well. One can even grade the sand to optimize its effectiveness as well. In this way a sledge of blocks may even be sped steadily across the desert without let up. We have perhaps all seen that particular image as well and never grasped its s... more »
Side Effects of Chemo
The sad truth remains that in virtually all applications, that the progress is only arrested and then briefly enough. That arrest is enough to claim remission and a statistical cure but no cure in real terms. The practical reality is that it is likely better to simply accept fate and do what can be done with surgery to slow and mitigate the progress of the disease. There is also a battery of safe productive protocols which the medical profession generally fails to implement. That means it is up to the individual to tackle that end of the spectrum of options. I personally kno... more »
Science Validates Vedic history
This is excellent news. It polices up the historical framework of India rather well. What is pleasantly surprising is that language itself remained largely intact throughout as has the Chinese language. Thus information does pass through rather well. This is reasonable as it was not necessary to invent new plant foods such as wheat. Again the impetus of the Atlantean Bronze Age and high quality bronze triggered a robust global buil... more »
Eat Right to Help Lower Your High Blood Pressure
I am adding this item here as a convenient guide to suppress high blood pressure and to prevent it from developing. The whole topic remains fraught with controversy but we all want excellent health. The absolute least we can all do is to learn to eat properly. This is an excellent place to start. Even with good choices, it is best to not ever overindulge any particular item that you may prefer. Too many nuts may not be a good idea. A vegetarian friend of mine loved granola until it began to affect the lining of his intestine. Who would have even though of this? Most imp... more »

It bothers me that the press actually gives these deviant opinions any platform, let alone the platform provided by the proponent. This is not about free expression, it is about propagating the propaganda of mindless ignorance and assigning it some sort of standing in the court of public opinion. When a scien... more »
Why Science Does Not Disprove God
Actually, my Cloud Cosmology build on an exact mathematical description of the first movement and the resultant expansion of the physical universe necessitates the external will or consciousness or the Ubermind as part of the internal mathematica of the physical universe while still external. It is really quite astounding. As well much of the ongoing debate in terms of God fails miserably to address just what GOD is. Five thousand years of hand waving simply does not cut it. As indicated, GOD is the conscious content of our universe and is understood by ourselves only to the ... more »
Forty Hertz Zap Triggers Lucid Dreams
I am having a researcher test this out to get some informed feedback. However this clearly conforms to my conjectures regarding ring stones in which we expect resonant sources to stimulate the physical mind sufficiently to allow access to at least the first luminous plane. This has now been described as lucid dreaming and practice allows the individual to manage the experience. It is also clearly invoked when spiritual realms are reached through meditation. Thus it is extremely useful to be able to investigate on demand. At least we now have clear confirmation that we ... more »
Genesis of Plate Tectonics?
This is better a clear explanation for the actual initiation of plate tectonics. As far as Venus is concerned, I suspect that it is just too early. There is also erosion transport that needs to be considered which also happens on the margins. That could also be enough to provide a nudge. Yet we see gross subsidence in the Rift Valley and gross upheaval and spreading in the mid-Atlantic Ridge. That suggests much more. *Scientists Unravel One Of The Keys To Life On Earth — And It's Right Beneath Your Feet* *By Leslie Baehr | * *https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/scientists-u... more »
Scientists Reconstruct Massive Precambrian Impact
I often wonder if Iceland will turn out to be a huge impact crater? The present explanation appears more than ample but it is also plausible that an initiating impact triggered the ongoing separation of the two plates. They are clearly related and linked and may well represent a lot more than we anticipate. This item does tell us just how severe the age of bombardment was. The Earth sponged up all the debris related to its formation and that was like sucking up the asteroid belt which presently lacks a large enough attractor and may be inside a zone of gravitational instabil... more »
Major Breakthrough of Thymus Restoration Reverses Old Age Decline
This is a huge breakthrough and it real promise is to fully restore health and vigor to the elderly. This is no small accomplishment and will be used much sooner than understood. Recall that wild animals show little effect of aging until the last months of their lives and collapse is then precipitous. The natural equivalent would be for us to live in full health and vigor until around ninety eight at which the actual collapse kicks in. It is obviously possible because we are the actual exceptions that prove the rule. This tells me that we now have a simple work around through ... more »
A Modern Pope gets Old School on the Devil
The modern world has had a serious problem confronting the afterlife at all as part of a rational worldview. A large part of that derives from almost antique notions that have themselves not been properly recast. The fundamental problem for everyone is that we have first personified GOD and this naturally leads to personifying SATAN. It is better to understand both as separate magnets to attract human intentions first of the physical mind and through that to modify the spirit. I think that we can all agree that it is possible to be attracted to behavior and ideas that can be ... more »
Tractor Beams Demonstrated
This folks is a simple proof of concept that can now be extended to forms of wave production. More specifically, it applies directly to applications using higher ordered cyclic functions that promise to seriously tame gravity as we know and presently understand it. We already know from multiple UFO sightings that tractor beams are possible and certainly desirable. Since a UFO also is using a gravity control device in the form of a large ring band it makes perfect sense that it may also be tapped to provide a tractor beam as well. Thus a proof of concept is important confirmat... more »
Shipping Firm Using Drones in Arctic
This is such an obvious application we can be certain to see it become standard practice. It will also cause our ice predictive capabilities to be nicely polished. Add in hovercraft ice breaking technology and the Arctic looks a lot less challenging for heavy shipping. As I have posted in the past, an Asian – Arctic - Passage – Atlantic is likely feasible for 500,000 ton nuclear powered hovercraft. Such a craft would make over eighty kilometers per hour in the open sea and possible as much as fifty kph over passable ice. Such a service would hammer the long haul container t... more »
New Method Confirms Humans and Neandertals interbred
This report can be considered scientific housekeeping and assures us that we are certainly dealing with interbreeding. I have no doubt, but only because I am familiar enough with natural and almost barbarian societies to have read plenty of clear evidence. We only need to recall the Altai wild women who became a convenient source of sexual release within a small group. This led to several offspring. Quite clearly, interbreeding becomes inevitable in anything approaching primitive conditions. Lack of opportunity is not a viable argument at all when we have historical evidenc... more »
The Seven Epochs of Man
This item is from Robert Schoch who is a geologist and has plenty to say about the aging of the sphinx. Otherwise, I have become quite frustrated with the shortsightedness of the archeological community generally who ignore literally mountains of hard data over and over again until someone rubs their noses in it for a couple of lifetimes. What I do want to do is to define several Epochs of mankind history to assist us in understanding human history more generally. I have spoken to parts of this throughout this blog, but I am now going to set up a complete list for us. *Pre hum... more »
A Solution For Graphene Production
This is actually very promising. It may also prove possi8ble to induce setting up as a substrate on to a skin with similar methods. At least this has real promise to produce a vast supply and that is well worth going after. If we are really lucky it may become possible to produce a graphene skin cheap and easy while retaining appropriate characteristics. This is very good news. We may be able to also lay down a vapor level of amorphous metal to or even an insulator on top of the exposed surface, dissolve the carrier and then reduce the graphene layer to best thickness. ... more »
Unified Theory of Evolution
Understanding the central role of consciousness resolves these issues. Although the argument has been driven by those with a naïve understanding of both science and GOD and the concept of intelligent design, we have now reached a point where we can understand the salient role of consciousness itself throughout all aspects of the physical. We also now understand or at least I understand that we are profoundly biased to act in a conservative manner and that we are also profoundly informed at a sub brain level with access to that knowledge and response systems. For that reason eve... more »
Proof That the Human Body is a Projection of Consciousness
We have understood the key foundational aspect of what we perceive as consciousness. It is integral to the natural logic of existence as the operator that confirms the output itself. If logically one plus one equals two, the operator confirms going to the next step that this result is satisfactory and sufficient to complete that step. With that simple building block we can comprehend consciousness in the same way we model and comprehend the particle universe and make it integral. Let us then get our language correct. The body is not a projection of consciousness. They are ... more »
Arclein Diet Four Years of Success

It is essentially trivial to implement and sustain and does not demand any special foods or props at all. As well I expect that if you got this far... more »
ECONOMICS FOR REAL PEOPLE: What Philosophers (And Everyone Else) Can Learn From Economics, And Vice Versa
*Here’s what’s on offer at tomorrow night’s Auckland Uni Economics Group meeting:* Hi All, This week, we discuss the greatest lesson economics has to teach everyone else—yet one that few economists even know – and even fewer philosophers. We will also look at something everyone else has to teach economists—if only economists were able to listen. The first topic involves one of the great and fundamentally benevolent conclusions of economic thinking, and the great economist who promoted it. The second, the “axiomatic concepts” that most economists take for granted, but w... more »

I hope you read VA-08 resident Pachacutec's very detailed rundown of the candidates running in his northern Virginia district. That was back in April. Today marked 3 weeks out from the election and the race has had time to develop. Polls clearly show the race shaping up to be between Patrick Hope, the progressive oriented towards working families and... more »

Paulo Coelho, “The Cycle of Nature”
*“The Cycle of Nature”* by Paulo Coelho “In the cycle of nature there is no such thing as victory or defeat: there is only movement. The winter struggles to reign supreme, but, in the end, is obliged to accept spring’s victory, which brings with it flowers and happiness. The summer would like to make its warm days last for ever, because it believes that warmth is good for the earth, but, finally, it has to accept the arrival of autumn, which will allow the earth to rest. The gazelle eats the grass and is devoured by the lion. It isn’t a matter of who is the strongest, but God’s way... more »

Chet Raymo, "Splat!"
*"Splat!"* by Chet Raymo "In Stephen Crane's American classic, "The Red Badge of Courage," young Henry Fleming goes off to war fired by dreams of heroic sweep and grandeur. "He had read of marches, sieges, conflicts, and had longed to see it all. His busy mind had drawn for him large pictures extravagant in color, lurid with breathless deeds." In the war to preserve the Union he would mingle in one of the great affairs of the earth. He longs, yes longs, for the symbolic wound, the blood-red badge of courage. The first foes Fleming encounters are some Confederate pickets along a ri... more »
Lou Vincent: a Sorry, Pathetic Excuse For a Man
Former cricketer and self-admitted match fiddler Lou Vincent is alleged to have received several hundred thousand dollars in ill-gotten cash over the years he betrayed his team-mates and teams’ fans, feeling no compunction about the betrayal because, he says, Cricket NZ had treated him badly over the years. Poor lamb. For this he sold out everything he purported to stand for, and whatever integrity he once might have had. The way he was treated is nothing compared to the way he treated his employers, and those who love and follow his sport. To those he put two fingers up and r... more »
"The Weaving Of Human Living..."
"...and this is the weaving of human living: of whose fabric each individual is a part; each is intimately connected with the bottom and the extremist reach of time: and not one of these things nor one of these persons is ever quite to be duplicated or replaced: but each is a new and incommunicably tender life, wounded in every breath, sustaining for a while, without defense, the enormous assaults of the universe." - James Agee, "Now Let Us Praise Famous Men"
Day One/Two of my New Life
Woke up pretty early, which I guess is the norm here. Sun comes up around 530 AM, so the pugs are ready to get up around then too, LOL. I think we actually got up around 700 AM. However, weirdly, I don't even really care what time it is here. Kurt started pulling all the luggage and bags in the house and I started unpacking it all. Clothing, electronics, shoes, toiletries, jewelry, etc. There are literally no closets in this house, so Kurt is going to turn one of the bedrooms into a huge closet vanity and storage area for us. Right now, my clothes are separated on the floor ... more »
Getting to Costa Rica
I am here! And so happy to see my family. The journey down here was long and exhausting. It started on 5/18, with Ron picking me up from the house at 945 AM. Loaded my 10 suitcases, 1 backpack, 1 camera bag, and purse into his truck and got to the Delta part of the airport. Unloaded the suitcases. Went to the counter to check in outside and was told that I had to go to another part of the airport and check in at Special Services because of the cat. Begged the guy to help me, and he put my luggage onto a cart and took me to where I needed to go. Waited in line there a bit. Th... more »
Sandwich Watch: End of an era -- the sandwich and deli worlds mourn as Philip Roth says almost 80 years' worth of sandwiches is enough

John Key & the GCSB [update 2]
*Two politicians are having lunch together. Last night's *Campbell Live* report on the complex story of the GCSB, the Prime Minister, Kim Dotcom, Ian Fletcher and the Americans may have left a few viewers scratching their heads last night. Near Future Fiction: Two Novels
I've taken time out from highfalutin social theory to read some science fiction. So a visit to Hanley Library at the weekend found me check out a couple of books: *Heaven's Shadow* by David S Goyer and Michael Cassutt, and *Descent* by Ken MacLeod. They are both examples of near future fiction - the former set five years hence, the latter between 10 and 30 years from now. Sadly, that is where the similarity ends. . The Goyer and Cassutt effort. Where to begin? I'm afraid to say it's an awful book, so what follows will be replete with spoilers. In 2019 two ships, one American, the o... more »
Inequality Myths
*Guest post by **Michael D. Tanner* From President Obama to Paul Krugman, Thomas Piketty to Elizabeth Warren, the American Left has adopted “inequality” as the cause of the day. Post- Piketty, they now paint a picture of a new Gilded Age in which a hereditary gentry becomes ever richer, while the vast majority toil away in near-Dickensian poverty. It’s a compelling political narrative, one that can be used to advance any number of policy proposals, from higher taxes to capital gains taxes to increases in the minimum wage. Unfortunately, bad facts make for bad policy. Let’s look a... more »

Meet Fred Kundrata-- Cincinnati Democrat
This month I've been talking with Fred Kundrata, the Democratic candidate running for the Cincinnati-based seat that Steve Chabot lost in 2008 to Steve Driehaus, who ran as a progressive, and then regained 2 years later after Driehaus had amassed a conservative record at the behest of the DCCC. OH-01 was gerrymandered in 2010 to make the district much less hospitable to Democrats. Parts of Cincinnati were shaved off and wealthy, deep red Warren County was grafted onto the district. The PVI went from R+1 to R+6, a skewer rarely within the grasp of a Democrat. Fred, however, is undau... more »

A political marriage of convenience
In the Pakistani socio-political milieu there are three important political forces: the dominant Islamic nationalists; the ethno-linguistic nationalists; and the Westernized liberals. The Islamic nationalists are culturally much closer to the ethno-linguistic nationalists, but politically due to frequent interruptions of democratic process and the martial law administrators’ suspicion towards the centrifugal ethno-linguistic nationalisms, the latter were politically marginalized. So they were alienated by the military but they became averse towards the Islamic nationalists. As we ... more »

Sucked Into Vortex Theater
It's memoir season. It's celebrity elevator fights and office intrigue season. It's the overlapping of the acts in never-ending presidential campaign season theater season. Contenders for high office fall all over themselves pretending to be for the little guy, while actual presidents no longer need even pretend to be for the little guy. Instead, they're in campaign mode for impending Private Life as they openly play golf with vulture capitalists and give speeches at Walmart and praise financial predators for their social impact efforts. (And to stave off the lame duck boredom, sti... more »
Oligarchs Must Hang Together
When Vladimir Putin annexed Crimea, Stephen Harper and John Baird belched indignation. Michael Harris writes: Harper and his foreign minister immediately hopped on Kyiv-bound planes for the 2015 photo-ops: Canada standing up for Ukraine. Baird donned a scarf in the national colours of that troubled country. Then the government sent jets, with or without armaments, to show we’re ready to rumble for Ukrainian democracy. (At home, the government was busy ramming the abusive Fair Elections Act through Parliament.) Harper insisted it was time for tough sanctions against Putin and his... more »

Trying To Make Sense of The Coup-In-Process In Libya Led By CIA Asset General Khalifa Hiftar
"We announce to the world that the country can't be a breeding ground or an incubator for terrorism" - Gen. Mokhtar Farnana, spokesman for Gen. Khalifa Hiftar Below are excerpts from articles about Khalifa Hiftar's CIA-inspired coup in Libya. On Sunday, his forces took the parliament by surprise when they attacked it. Analysts say this could lead to a civil war or at least very heavy fighting between Islamist militias who are aligned with the government and forces that oppose them such as Hiftar's small army. The problem since day one after Gaddafi's departure is that there is no ... more »
What Drives The West's Self-Destructive Belligerence?
*May 20, 2014* (Tony Cartalucci - NEO) - "Europe whole and free" and the "reconstruction and enlargement" of Europe. That is how the corporate-fundedAtlantic Council - NATO's defacto public relations front and think tank - is describing the current agenda of the "transatlantic community" during their celebration of the "25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the 15th anniversary of NATO's first post-Cold War enlargement, and the 10th anniversary of the "big bang" enlargements of both the European Union and NATO." *Here we go again -- Exaggerated new claim of Antarctic melting* *As the image shows, and as we already know, virtually ALL the melting is in the margins of the W. Antarctic sheet -- showing that it is a quite local effect, not a global effect. So far from being global, the effect does not even cover the whole of Antarctica. To reinforce the point that the effect is a purely local one (probably due to vulcanism) note that there has been no GLOBAL warming for 17 years. So the W. Antarctic warming cannot be due to something that does not exist* The Antarctic ice sheet is melti... more »

Congress Targets Russia’s ‘Satan’ Missile
[image: RS-20 Satan]The latest showdown between the U.S. and Russia could go ballistic. Congress is looking to pressure a Ukrainian lab to end its maintenance of one of Moscow’s fiercest missiles. Earlier this month, the Russians announced they would discontinue the sale of rocket engines to the United States if those engines could be used for military purposes. At least some members of Congress are looking to retaliate in kind. An amendment to the annual Pentagon budget bill, expected to pass this week, instructs President Obama to begin talks with the Ukrainian government aimed a... more »

Pakistan Seeks Chinese Drones?

RAF spy plane breaks down on way to find Nigerian schoolgirls
[image: Sentinel R1 (Astor)]An RAF spy plane sent to join the international hunt for schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram militants has broken down on the way. The Sentinel R1 was forced to divert to Senegal with a “technical issue” and will be grounded until repairs have been completed. The unexpected delay is a repeat of last year’s embarrassment for the Ministry of Defence when a C-17 transporter sent to help French troops in Mali was also temporarily grounded by technical trouble. Return of the Cold War?
[image: LGM-30 Minuteman III Missile]Watching events in Ukraine, you might wonder if the Cold War is coming back. Russia annexed Crimea, now some of the eastern parts of Ukraine appear to be shifting into the Russian orbit, and looking into the future, it doesn't take much imagination to picture all of Ukraine dominated by Russia. There is palpable fear in some former Soviet republics and the memory of that dark and dangerous time has sent a chill through European capitals. Read more
