What are YOU doing to stop the Un-Fair Elections Act?

Isn't it terrifyingly ridiculous how completely devoid of ideas and

A government that everyone but the politically-insane recognizes was in
contempt of Parliament, engages in widespread election fraud, stymies the
investigations of said fraud, uses its criminally-obtained majority to ram
through the most appalling omnibus legislation in this country's history,

I haven't weighed in much on Canada's Bill C-10 issues but in the
overall scheme of things it is no different than any of the others on
the long list of anti-Native laws, regulations and policies that Canada

Do we need the SAT?
Sent to USA Today
Not mentioned in the discussion of changes in the SAT ("Sharpen those
pencils: The SAT test is getting harder," March 6) is the question of
whether we need SAT-type examinations.
In two different studies, researchers from UC Berkeley, Harvard and
Princeton reported that high school grades were a good predictor of college
success, and that adding SAT scores did not improve the predictive power of
grades alone.
These results suggest that teacher evaluation does a better job of
evaluating student potential than standardized testing does: The repeated

Equipping Florida Parents to Expose Jeb Bush’s Florida Education “Miracle”
The purpose of this post is to provide a brief summary for Florida parents
regarding the failure of the spectrum of so-called education “reforms”

Paul Ryan's Anthem
Big Ego, Small Bulk *(graphic by Kat Garcia)*
Paul Ryan emerged from the ancient subway tunnel of his mind this week and
unleashed his latest attempt at Ayn Rand fan fiction upon the World Council
of Scholars. In a literary hissy fit largely ignored because of the Ukraine
crisis, he threw his cold, cold water on all 50 candles of the LBJ War on
Poverty birthday cake. It's his Party, and he can cry if he wants to.
And he wants everybody to cry with him. Especially the poor people,
without whom there would be no distasteful Poverty and no need for the

It May Be Ted Cruz Week At CPAC But Today Is Chris Christie Day
Always one of the craziest media circuses on the calendar, CPAC opens today

I want my Obamaphone!
By
Capt. Fogg
The younger generation, and to me that means almost everyone, sees a
cellular phone as something much more than a telephone. It's a
*symbol*even if everyone and his 5 year old kid has one and the semiotic
value has
much to do with the snob quotient, the joy of having something before
anyone else has one, and very little to do with making phone calls. So
judging from the jealousy in Rush Limbaugh's voice, the phone to have,
the
phone he doesn't have, is the Obamaphone.
No, being filthy rich won't help, in fact it has no price and it's so
exclusive it doesn't actually ... more »
Another brief word on civility in the #edreform debates
I know I’ve commented on this before, so I’ll keep this brief. Within
debates for and against corporate education reform, corporate reformers
often respond to passionate debate with complaints. “Ouch, you’re attacking

Folks like to throw that word ad hominem around. It’s almost […]
GALLOWAY ON UKRAINE
Much of the media's reporting on the geopolitical tensions surrounding
Ukraine has focused on the US and Russia. Missing from that coverage has
been reaction from the European Union.

the United Kingdom's Respect Party, about the Ukrainian conflict and asks
how he would like to see the EU proceed.
Don't Give Up
Listening to my Inner Consciousness is something that I have been exploring
on this amazing journey
Inner consciousness. Not "Higher". This is a thought that has been racing
around my heart for a long while now. I have always had an issue with the
expression "Higher Consciousness", because even if we are talking about an
internal "self", I rebel at the term "higher" as it creates the feeling of
ME being lower or less than. Words are conscious creators that have direct
effect on ourselves and our environment. With that in mind (lol) I will
call it my Inner Consciousness.

I have submitted the following comment to the Steven Goddard site, where
the subject of Venus's hot surface is erupting again:
*Convection does NOT dominate in the global troposphere, the constant
vertical temperature lapse rate (temperature gradient) does; that is the
stage upon which weather (and climate) plays its part. Convection just
drives the weather (primarily horizontally), it does not create or maintain
the vertical lapse rate--the hydrostatic condition does that (and Jerry

Musings On Iraq Security Report For Feb. 8-16, 2014
MUSINGS ON IRAQ - 4 hours ago
The second quarter of February 2014 was just as violent as the first, but
there was a large drop in casualties. The number of dead and wounded went
down by around one-quarter from the first seven days of the month, but that
was not from a lack of trying as the number of attacks went up slightly.
Baghdad, Salahaddin, Anbar, and Ninewa accounted for the vast majority of
security incidents, while there were only a few in Tamim, Diyala, Babil,
Dhi Qar, Karbala, and Wasit. Overall, February is stacking up to be just as
deadly as the previous months.

Ukraine Updates March 4 , 2014 -- Was yesterday constant flashes of "scary " headlines just a bad nightmare ? Putin speaks , tells Russian tropps to go back to their barracks in the Crimea , global equity markets rejoice , US bonds , gold and oil gets slammed ....... But are we really back to " Happy Days " ? A fair read of the whole of Putin's speech indicates that while Putin has restated his view of the Ukraine situation and seemingly softened his hard talk from the weekend , he has not softened the Russian view toward the Crimea at all. And on the 2 billion Ukraine owes Russia for natural gas ( as of the end of February , it's still due and Ukraine is still subject to the cancellation of its discount ! Moreover , the speech is also geared toward heading off not just the reluctant EU on the subject of sanctions , but also head off or truly isolate the US if unilateral sanctions are imposed .

she has said nothing about holding a third referendum.
In 1980, my wife and I voted in the first referendum. But by 1995, like

from necessity. I began my teaching career at a new high school in the

Back, for a short while... here's some stuff about stuff
I remember a time before the current Golden Age of Television. It was a
time when TV was largely embarrassing and terrible. The age of Mr Blobby

Manning Knows His Man
The report from Elections Canada on irregularities in the 2011 election is
due at the end of the month. Lawrence Martin foresees three possible
scenarios unfolding:
One is that Elections Canada finds that the dirty work was limited to just
the riding of Guelph. In that case, no worries for Mr. Harper. We move on.
A second is that Elections Canada finds evidence of robocalls and other
acts of subterfuge in many ridings, but leaves hanging the question of
whether the Conservatives were the perpetrators. In this case, the party
would likely assail Elections Canada as biased (“team je... more »
Susan Collins Unbeatable? Only Inside-the-Beltway… And Mainers Make Up Their Own Minds
Monday we asserted-- and we stand by it-- that there's no legitimate reason
to assume Shenna Bellows can't defeat Susan Collins in Maine. Although she
vowed to Maine voters, she would only seek the Senate seat twice, she's
embarking on her fourth run. And she's not even that popular. How does
Susan Collins’ 2008 re-election vote (61%) compare with other Maine Senate
elections? In 2006 (also a good year for Democrats) Olympia Snowe’s
re-election vote was 13% higher at 74%! And looking urther back, Snowe's
2000 vote of 69% exceeded Collins’ 2002 vote of 58%, and Snowe's Snowe’s

*A ponderous but rather silly article about fat giving you diabetes*
*I really love it when scientists draw conclusions that are the opposite of
what their data shows. We read: "Elevated body mass index (BMI)
associates with cardiometabolic traits". But it doesn't. Bulkier people
were found to be somewhat likely to show some indicators of diabetes but
were found NOT to be more likely to suffer heart disease or stroke. Are we
supposed to be bluffed by the imprecise term "cardiometabolic"? It seems
like it. They had actual diabetics in their samples so why did they not

You don’t know the meaning of #dontbackdown
I’m pretty angry. Yesterday, I was on a panel discussing Teach For America
with, among others, Josh Anderson- head of TFA Chicago. Overall, I thought
the panel went well. Debate was passionate (mostly on my part) but civil.
Still, at the very end, when Josh gave the final remarks of the event, he
said something […]
Application of Informer Privilege
*R. v. Cook*, 2014 ONCA 170:
[16] I turn first to the issue of informer privilege. It was submitted that
the law is not clear on this point. The leading cases analyze informer
privilege on the basis that some promise of confidentiality express or
implied is necessary. However, in R. v. Barros, 2011 SCC 51, [2011] 3
S.C.R. 368, Binnie J. seems to have left open the question when he stated,
at para. 32: “[i]t might be argued that in a situation of serious potential
danger, the informer privilege (or other public interest privilege) might
apply even in the absence of the contract-type ... more »
Kerry Showboats in Kiev as Putin Shows His Missile to Obama
It is so delightfully ironic that in an epic battle of the comparing of
dicks that Putin has now one upped the insecure Obama by allegedly test
firing a Topol ICBM missile on Tuesday. Let’s just hope that for the sake
of the continuation of human life on Earth that the pathological narcissist
U.S. President doesn’t decide to prove that his is bigger. In the latest
developments of what the western state-corporate controlled media is
breathlessly hyping as Cold War II or the REAL clash of civilizations the
hurricane of bullshit reached category four level with an ominous storm

4th ICCC in Chicago, May 2010
Less than four years ago, I went to Chicago to attend the 4th International
Conference on Climate Change (4th ICCC), May 16-17, 2010, mainly sponsored
by Heartland Institute. My previous note on this conference is here, Chicago,
4th ICCC, day 1.
Was able to have a photo with Dr. Henrik Svensmark (below, middle), a
Danish physicist at Denmark climate research office, also among the
pioneers of the Sun-Climate theory. Also in the photo is a friend from
Germany, Wolfgang Muller.
With world famous climatologist, Dr. Roy Spencer of the Univ. of Alabama in
Huntsville (UAH). He was among... more »

With the world still on edge over developments in the Ukraine, overnight
newsflow was far less dramatic than yesterday, with no "bombshell" uttered
at today's Putin press conferences in which he said nothing new and simply
reiterated the party line and yet the market saw it as a full abdication,
he did have some soundbites saying Russia should keep economic issues
separate from politics, and that Russia should cooperate with all partners

Particle fever: where to see
Particle Fever, the universally praised David Kaplan's full-fledged movie
about particle physics, is coming to the movie theaters in the U.S. today.
Lots of news outlets discuss what the movie is all about.
It took 7 years for the movie to be shot, and so on. It is both about
theorists and experimenters and the emotions they have been going through
For your convenience, here is a copy of the dates and places where the film
will be shown. The film's website also tells you about the film festivals
where the movie is participating.

US hypocrisy over ‘Russian aggression’ in Ukraine
*March 5, 2014* (Nile Bowie for RT) - As divisions deepen between the
eastern and western regions of Ukraine, the backers of the putsch regime in
Kiev portray Russia as a reckless aggressor to absolve their own
responsibility for engineering the crisis.

John McCain explains everything wrong with U.S. foreign policy
Senator John McCain, perhaps the most traitorous, Jew-loving criminal
"representing" the good people from the state of Arizona in the United
States Senate, explained *everything wrong* with American foreign policy

*“So, with you my friends, I see Americans who want our country to be
engaged in events beyond our borders, I see Americans who want an
internationalist foreign policy, I see Americans who want our country to
stand with Israel and our other partners, I see Americans who are willing

die-offs are due to ocean acidity caused by global warming is absurd for a
number of reasons so just some comments received from Lord Monckton:"There
are two knockdown arguments against ocean "acidification". The first is
that notwithstanding CO2 concentrations many times higher than today's, the
oceans have remained pronouncedly alkaline for 540 million years (with the

RT Presenter Challenges Russian Foreign Policy, Keeps Job
Another PR coup outflanks decrepit Western "world order."
*March 5, 2014* (LD - Tony Cartalucci) - The BBC was busy attempting to

challenged Russian foreign policy on-air during her outspoken program,
"Breaking the Set." Ms. Martin was neither reprimanded nor threatened with
dismissal, with RT officially stating that their editorial policy includes
the free expression of their presenters both privately and on the air.

European energy markets. In an email interview, Keith Smith, a former U.S.
