What an awful week for the labour movement. The shocking passing of Bob
Crow and now our well-loved comrade, Tony Benn. Tony, in many ways, was the
ideal-typical politician of yesteryear. Patient and polite, persistent and
principled. He was the embodiment of a rare breed of MP, a man who entered
Parliament out of conviction and after a 50 year career in the Commons left

A string of small earthquakes in Mahoning County, Ohio this week triggered
the Ohio State Department of Natural Resources to order a halt on fracking
operations near the tremor site. Hilcorp Energy, which is producing oil and
natural gas out of the Utica Shale, is the only company with fracking

Not mentioned in the Times' editorials (March 13, 14) is the astonishing
amount of testing required by the Common Core and the requirement that
testing must be done online.
No Child Left Behind "only" required tests at the end of year in reading
and math in grades 3-8 and once in high school. The common core aims to
test all subjects in all grades, and includes interim tests to be given
throughout the school year. There is also discussion of pretesting in the

about BBC 3‘s censorship of the gay/Muslim debate was Mishal Husain the
‘Asian’ rather than Evan Davis the ‘Gay’.
The internet has been speculating as to whether ‘Muslim’ trumps ‘gay’ in
the BBC’s hierarchy of specially protected minorities. It seems Muslim
*does* trump gay, which is odd when you take into consideration the

Unemployment Insurance Extension? Really?
Yesterday the Senate finally reached a bipartisan deal on extending
unemployment insurance. Does anyone think the House is going to give it
serious consideration? The 5 months worth of benefits (around $10 billion)
would go until May… if the House passes it. The Senate will vote on it
towards the end of March, after the Senate gets back from yet another
vacation.

Search area now include indian Ocean. Was the plane being taken to the Middle East or Europe and why ? A few key points to consider -- The fact that the aircraft – if it was MH370 – had lost contact with air traffic control and was invisible to civilian radar suggested someone on board had turned its communication systems off, the first two sources said. In addition , new details were given on the direction in which the unidentified aircraft was heading – following aviation corridors identified on maps used by pilots as N571 and P628. These routes are taken by commercial planes flying from south-east Asia to the Middle East or Europe and can be found in public documents issued by regional aviation authorities . Benghazi health official killed

*Benghazi, 14 March 2014*:
The Head of the Ministry of Health’s Inspection and Following-Up Department
for east Libya was murdered in Benghazi last night. Essam Mohamed Salah
Al-Owjali, who lived in the city’s Sabri district was shot several times in
the chest as he was leaving a local mosque after Isha prayer, according to
