Following The Money

Owen Gray at Northern Reflections - 1 hour ago
Mark Felt -- alias Deep Throat -- advised Woodward and Bernstein to follow the money. It was good advice forty years ago; and it's good advice now. Consider the following report from Althia Raj at the Huffington Post: The Conservative government has spent $482 million on outside legal fees since it came to power in 2006. And more than $447,045 to defend the Prime Minister, his staff and ministers, according to documents tabled in the House of Commons. These fees were for lawyer's outside the house that Harper built: As Liberal MP Sean Casey said, " “It’s just a shocking number. T... more »

Given this, at least: No interviewer can possibly keep up with the volume velocity of Rob Ford's lies. — Ryan Day (@lizzhatesme) March 28, 2014 But there are still seven months to go for interviewers and opponents to learn how better to deal with RFF's bullshit. Once upon a time: The refuted roots of organic farming

Pete B at Grass Based Health - 2 hours ago
Can you tell the difference between these two molecules of urea? Image creditThe urea on the left can be isolated from cattle urine (urea is the principal nitrogenous waste product of amphibians and mammals). The urea on the right can be produced via the Wohler process. They are, of course, exactly the same molecule. Subscribers to organic farming methods, however, believe that the urea on the left is an acceptable nitrogen source, while the urea on the right is not. Ukraine Updates March 28 , 2014 - The United States is continuing to ratchet up its low-intensity sanctions regime against Russia, introducing measures that include a ban on exporting defense items and services to Russia to pressure Moscow over recent events in Ukraine...... Meanwhile, the US House of Representatives is also readying additional sanctions on Russian officials in addition to the 27 individuals sanctioned earlier this month, alongside Bank Rossiya. The bill, which would impose additional asset freezes and visa bans on unspecified senior Russian officials, their close associates and family members, as well as corporations, passed 399-19. Earlier Thursday, a group of US senators called on President Barack Obama to impose sanctions on Russia's defense sector, and more specifically, its state arms exporter Rosoboronexport.

*Charles grabs a photo on our coast ride the other day.* One thing that's really great about the recent student protest is that it is being covered in the international media. Barack Obama please shut the fuck up about Crimea. The best thing for you to do is to ignore the developments in Ukraine since nothing you say can paint the peaceful referendum there as illegal or morally wrong. It was a natural consequence of the illegal and undemocratic actions that your government decided to take in Kiev. The world is not full of fools, only your administration is.

If there was any remaining shadow of a doubt about where regular Americans stand in the sewer of corruption that is Obamaworld let it now be removed. While food stamp programs, long-term unemployment and veterans benefits are cut to the bone there is plenty of money to send to support Neo-Nazis in Ukraine. Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce says the $36 million of taxpayers' money pumped into the last America's Cup challenge directly benefited the New Zealand economy to the tune of $87 million. History repeats, because we (society) don't know any real history. We learn whitewashed, sanitized, dumbed down versions of *'truthiness' *We have no real concept of specific actions taken, actions that were intended to start wars. How many people are aware of that fact? How many believe the state approved version of events? That it was an unjustified invasion. And, could we see a scenario playing o... more »

"To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget." - Arundhati Roy

The Poet: Mary Oliver, "What I Have Learned So Far"

*"What I Have Learned So Far"* "Meditation is old and honorable, so why should I not sit, every morning of my life, on the hillside, looking into the shining world? Because, properly attended to, delight, as well as havoc, is suggestion. Can one be passionate about the just, the ideal, the sublime, and the holy, and yet commit to no labor in its cause? I don't think so. All summations have a beginning, all effect has a story, all kindness begins with the sown seed. Thought buds toward radiance. The gospel of light is the crossroads of- indolence, or action. Be ignited, or be gone." ~... more »

“Barred spiral galaxy NGC 1365 is truly a majestic island universe some 200,000 light-years across. Located a mere 60 million light-years away toward the chemical constellation Fornax, NGC 1365 is a dominant member of the well-studied Fornax galaxy cluster. *Click image for larger size.* This sharp color image shows intense star forming regions at the ends of the bar and along the spiral arms, and details of dust lanes cutting across the galaxy's bright core. At the core lies a supermassive black hole. Astronomers think NGC 1365's prominent bar plays a crucial role in the galaxy's e... more »

*Climate change: the debate is about to change radically* *As many Warmists now acknowledge, there is no point in trying to stop global warming; all we can do is adapt to whatever arises* The latest report from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is due out next week. If the leaked draft is reflected in the published report, it will constitute the formal moving on of the debate from the past, futile focus upon "mitigation" to a new debate about resilience and adaptation. The new report will apparently tell us that the global GDP costs of an expected global a... more »

“Invasion of the Data Snatchers"

*“Invasion of the Data Snatchers:* *Big Data and the Internet of Things Means the Surveillance of Everything”* By Catherine Crump and Matthew Harwood “Estimates vary, but by 2020 there could be over 30 billion devices connected to the Internet. Once dumb, they will have smartened up thanks to sensors and other technologies embedded in them and, thanks to your machines, your life will quite literally have gone online. The implications are revolutionary. Your smart refrigerator will keep an inventory of food items, noting when they go bad. Your smart thermostat will learn your habits ... more »

Holding John Boehner Accountable? Not Steve Israel Or His Lame DCCC

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 1 day ago
Remember reading how CPAC had once snubbed Chris Christie and had welcomed him as some kind of conservative hero this year? Well, maybe John Boehner will be caught up in a big scandal one day that will make him a hero too, but he-- unlike Mitch McConnell-- was snubbed by CPAC this year. The speaker has grown increasingly vocal in recent months about his frustration with tea party members of the House Republican caucus who have broken with leadership on key votes. The antipathy is mutual. “There are not enough curse words in the English language to describe how movement conservat... more »

R2P: The Tables Turn on the West in Crimea

Land Destroyer at Land Destroyer - 1 day ago
[image: ox281265770633091448] *March 27, 2014* (Tony Cartalucci - NEO) - R2P, or the “responsibility to protect,” was a geopolitical tool used by the West after thoroughly destabilizing a nation through armed proxies to then intervene militarily, enact regime change, occupy, and reorder the nation both economically and sociopolitically. It has been used to devastating effect in Serbia in the carving out of Kosovo, as well as more recently in Libya. In Kosovo, the Canadian National Post would report in their article, “U.S. supported al-Qaeda cells during Balkan Wars,” that: *In... more »
