Global Warming - The greatest deception in the history of science

By Climatologist Dr. Timothy Ball

(Excerpts – 5 Feb 07) – Global Warming, as we think we know it, doesn’t exist. And I am not the only one trying to make people open up their eyes and see the truth.
But few listen, despite the fact that I was the first Canadian Ph.D. in Climatology and I have an extensive background in climatology, especially the reconstruction of past climates and the impact of climate change on human history and the human condition.
Few listen, even though I have a Ph.D, (Doctor of Science) from the University of London, England and that for 32 years I was a Professor of Climatology at the University of Winnipeg. For some reason (actually for many), the World is not listening. Here is why.
Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science. We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification.
.....
As Lindzen said many years ago: “the consensus was reached before the research had even begun.” Now, any scientist who dares to question the prevailing wisdom is marginalized and called a sceptic, when in fact they are simply being good scientists. This has reached frightening levels with these scientists now being called climate change denier with all the holocaust connotations of that word. The normal scientific method is effectively being thwarted.
Meanwhile, politicians are being listened to, even though most of them have no knowledge or understanding of science, especially the science of climate and climate change.

We have a long term aging world with a decelerating global economy, and outside of Africa, a declining population.
Kinda hard to imagine much increase in CO2 forcing rate under those circumstances.

@ Adam R’s no. 1
“At the moment the problem is too remote to engage our attention. Perhaps we’ll notice when the roof falls in.”
You know, I really hate seeing a good-comrade all in a funk–I really do! So I thought I’d try and cheer Adam up (and everyone else too, for that matter, who shares Adam’s “quiet” and “sane” despair). Yep!–I’ve got an idea that will chase all those eco-flake, chicken-little, not-only-is the-sky-falling-but-now-even-the-”roof”-is-falling-in-too-thanks-to-the-headless-chicken-deniers-who-just-won’t-heed-the-brave-new-hen-house-grand-designs-hatched-by-their-egg-head-betters!, worry-wart blues away, big-time. With me?
First off, all Adam’s Cassandra-boogers aside, things are not really so bad on the carbon-reduction front, in reality. For example, the wiki entry for “Fuel Poverty in the United Kingdom” advises that approximately 25K useless-eater, point-source CO2-emitters are regularly and permanently shut down every winter since 2000. And even more encouraging, the 2008-09 freeze-your-butt-off-proof-of-global-warming Winter moved that carbon-reduction figure up a gratifying 23% to 38K.
Now, I can well anticipate that “some” will chide such numbers as mere, even depressingly small, drops in bucket. But bear with me–my idea takes the “excess winter deaths”, seasonal-cull “ball” and runs with it.
My CO2-cidal plan has three elements:
-Gut the British economy through mind-numbing, stultifying regulation and carbon taxes/cap-and-trade permits, thus reducing much of the population (the hoi-polloi portion) to permanently-unemployed penury and dependence on government hand-outs controlled by hive-apparatchik gatekeepers. And, most critically, plunge, thereby, ever-increasing numbers of poor-sucker, coolie-trash nobodies into “fuel poverty”. Beginning to get the picture?
-Dramatically ratchet up utility bills through regulation/carbon taxes (Whoa!-give me a chance to ‘splain things before you start hurling your brick-bats my way, PLEASE!–my plan also takes care to increase wind-turbine, rentier income-flows to the hive’s shot-caller class so that they more than offset any “sticker-shock” utility billings, and, also, my plan provides the hive’s parasite courtiers, toadies, and enablers with exclusive, tax-payer rip-off, utility bill subsidies that will fully preserve their in-your-face, snout-in-the-trough, carbon-piggie hypocrite-lifestyles).
-Gut the “National Health Care” system through long waits for specialty care (google “Forbes happy birthday to great britain’s increasingly scandalous health care service” for some “good news” on the hive’s current, heroic efforts in this area); a Hogarthian standard of hospital-care (the wiki entry “Stafford Hospital Scandal” serves as the model here); and a quality of medical diagnosis/treatment that dispenses with the historic, anti-science, flat-earther, Republican-brain focus on the patient’s welfare and, instead, replaces it with an enlightened view of medical care as a valuable instrument of “carbon-footprint-reduction” (again, see the above Forbes article, for some interesting developments, already, that might be of relevance on this score).
And, then, with those three elements, above, in place, it’s all just a matter of a little patience until the next unusually severe winter works its carbon-reduction magic. Indeed, I’m thinkin’ that with my plan locked-and-cocked, the next, humdinger cold-snap might even up the “hibernal thinning” body-count by two or more, Gaia-pleasing orders of magnitude, with any luck! Voila!
Happy now, Adam? And David H, please feel free to “shamelessly” rip-off my plan “and use it for yourself”. And, naturally, I fully expect that my plan will be improved upon by Stoat’s collective, smarty-pants brain-power, so be my guest, guys, with your “sane” and “quiet” adjustments to the basic scheme of maneuver.

What the CSIRO State of the Climate report forgot to tell you

“Sea-level rise and ocean acidification are projected to continue.”
If the BOM and CSIRO had wanted Australians to be informed and calm about the risks of Ocean Acidification, they would have said things like this:
  • The oceans are not acidic, and not close to being acidic with a pH of more than 8 which is alkaline. However natural unpolluted clean rainfall has a shockingly acidic pH of about 5.  [Source CSIRO] Life on Earth seems to cope. Some natural undersea vents have a pH as acidic as 2.8. That’s acidic.
  • The ocean changes pH naturally. In the Southern Ocean pH shifts by 0.3-0.5 units every summer and winter. Quite a lot of marine life are okay with this.
  • Some parts of the ocean vary even more every day than the most pessimistic models predict the ocean will change in the next 100 years.
  • It’s tricky to know what the pH of the world’s oceans are today (because of this natural variability) but it’s even harder to know that the pH was in 1750 since the pH scale and meters and what not, was only invented 150 years later. Instead our scientists estimate what the pH might have been then with models. Did we mention we are uncertain about the accuracy?
  • Sea level rise has decelerated lately, which suggests that more CO2 does not make the sea rise faster. A lot of heat is missing from climate models, but if the “missing heat” is hiding in the oceans — sea levels would be rising faster.
  • Australian and New Zealand sea levels were rising faster in the 1930s and 1940s than they have in the last 40 years.  (Isn’t that a bit relevant?)
  •  Sea levels all over the world started rising before 1800 when CO2 was still at “perfect” levels. Something was warming the planet back then.  If climate modelers knew what it was, their models might work.

Units of energy: homes?

... this unit of power called a “home”  is still a little misleading.  Although the average California home consumes about 7000 kilowatt-hours of electric energy per year, energy from other sources is also consumed.  The other big source is natural gas, which may be used for space heating, cooking or water heating.  If you think this is trivial compared to the amount of electricity used, think again.

ClimateSanity by Tom Moriarty

Tom, Your logic is wonderful to read. Bless you for taking this on. I want to look at the larger picture.
This climate change hysteria has reached the level of Jones Towwn ideology. I was an undergraduate at Harvard in the Geology Department when the concept of anthropogenic climate change was advanced by the political science students who had to take Steven Goulds Nat Sci. 10. Steven did a great section on glaciology. We ran them all around in vans looking at the scratches in the ledges and glacial features. They got “gentlement c’s.” AND THEY WERE PRACTICING THEIR ACTIVISM WHILE BURNING DOWN THE ROTC BUILDING.
Do you ever wonder why all of the data in the world is simply ignored as if it doesn’t exist? We tried a scientfic based criticism of the concept in the 1970′s, we could chase them into the dorms, but one on one when they had to concede that it was not true they finally used what I call the “Thermistoclese justification”. Ie ” big political misrepresentation to get the population to “do the right thing” It started as “just take care of the environment.” Now I think it has evolved like slowly boiling the frog to “drinking the Cool-Aid together.”
The process of protecting this ideology to the extreme so it doesn’t unravel is why Gore made the movie, the devistation to our economy and quality of life is close to unrepairable. He got a Nobel Prize!!! The ideolofgy has been used to justify the stupidest most destructive policies. The justification is simply an Ad Hominem attack.
There is a similarity of suicidal mind set across the whole political spectrum. Whether it is energy policy, fisheries, or the manipulation of the finalcial markets, policies grounded in falicies result in make believe decisons with real world consequences.
I appreciate your concise objection to Al Gores “Inconvienient Truth”. To the few it is a reinforcement. But to the indoctrinated your points fall on deaf ears. What has to happen is a wake up call to understand the psycology of why they are doing this to our civilization and turn the ideology around learn from it before it is too late.
That is the challenge. I don’t know if we are up to it because we are wired to think in terms of SCIENCE.
Cheers! Phin Sprague

Global Warming ‘Greatest Scam in History’

MANHATTAN DECLARATION ON CLIMATE CHANGE

We, the scientists and researchers in climate and related fields, economists, policymakers, and business leaders, assembled at Times Square, New York City, participating in the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change,

Resolving that scientific questions should be evaluated solely by the scientific method;

Affirming that global climate has always changed and always will, independent of the actions of humans, and that carbon dioxide (CO2) is not a pollutant but rather a necessity for all life;

Recognising that the causes and extent of recently-observed climatic change are the subject of intense debates in the climate science community and that oft-repeated assertions of a supposed ‘consensus’ among climate experts are false;

Affirming that attempts by governments to legislate costly regulations on industry and individual citizens to encourage CO2 emission reduction will slow development while having no appreciable impact on the future trajectory of global climate change. Such policies will markedly diminish future prosperity and so reduce the ability of societies to adapt to inevitable climate change, thereby increasing, not decreasing human suffering;

Noting that warmer weather is generally less harmful to life on Earth than colder:

Hereby declare:

That current plans to restrict anthropogenic CO2 emissions are a dangerous misallocation of intellectual capital and resources that should be dedicated to solving humanity’s real and serious problems.

That there is no convincing evidence that CO2 emissions from modern industrial activity has in the past, is now, or will in the future cause catastrophic climate change.

That attempts by governments to inflict taxes and costly regulations on industry and individual citizens with the aim of reducing emissions of CO2 will pointlessly curtail the prosperity of the West and progress of developing nations without affecting climate.

That adaptation as needed is massively more cost-effective than any attempted mitigation, and that a focus on such mitigation will divert the attention and resources of governments away from addressing the real problems of their peoples.

That human-caused climate change is not a global crisis.

Now, therefore, we recommend –

That world leaders reject the views expressed by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as well as popular, but misguided works such as “An Inconvenient Truth”.

That all taxes, regulations, and other interventions intended to reduce emissions of CO2 be abandoned forthwith.
