Will Running Against The Koch Brothers Help The Democrats In November?
By now you've probably noticed that the Democratic base's antipathy towards

Could you live "off the grid"?
[image: Could you live "off the grid"?]*Could you disconnect?*Have you ever
considered living off the grid?
The basic idea is to disconnect from the national electrical grid,
operating one's home using autonomous systems such as solar or wind power.
It sounds nice, independent living which is kinder to the earth. But, in
reality, how easy would it be to make the switch?
Eco-friendly forms of energy require nature's cooperation. When the sun
shines and/or the wind blows, energy flows into batteries and "electrical"
needs are met. But when nature doesn't accommodate us, the saved en... more »

West’s Muted Response on Terror Attack in China
*March 11, 2014* (Tony Cartalucci - New Eastern Outlook) - Saturday March
1, 2014′s horrific terror attack at China’s Kunming railroad station left
29 victims dead and over 100 wounded. The terrorist attack was the work of
Uyghur separatists hailing from Western China’s Xinjiang province. The US
would only condemn the attack as an act of terror after China accused
Washington of applying double standards to its coverage and stance on the
incident.
However, the US’ failure to initially condemn the attack as terrorism runs

Cronyism and the Transcontinental Railroads
*Anyone promoting or considering the merits of so-called public-private
partnerships (PPPs)– a collusion between public force and private profits
that is simply an invitation to cronyism, corruption and worse – should
examine the tainted history of American railroading in the Gilded Age. Why?
Because it’s precisely what PPPs will produce again today. In 1962 Ayn Rand

which she identified two types of businessmen, later called “economic and
political businessmen,”—the first were self-made men who earned their ... more »

Intersectionality, Position and Agency
By way of following up this and this, I want to say a couple more things
about intersectionality to clear up any misunderstandings - especially as
intersectionality has come to be identified with privilege-checking and
various forms of radical narcissism.
First off, intersectionality can look something like this:
It demonstrates that if you're a woman, the poorer you are the more likely
you are to be obese as compared to men (there are problems with using the
Body Mass Index as a measure, but we'll leave that for another occasion).

DIY Crate Shelf
[image: Housewife Eclectic: DIY Crate Shelf]
This is one of those projects I have had finished for years, but have never
posted, mostly because I don't love the photos. My bathroom is a pretty
shade of blue, and while I love the blue for everyday, taking a picture
inside a small, poorly lit space that is painted all blue is never ideal
for a photograph. Even though I don't love how the pictures turned out for
this project, I love the project itself.
This crate shelf, is really simple, just a stained crate hung using
decorative L brackets, but it breaks up a long wall in our bathroom... more »

The latest very important key fact!
*MONDAY, MARCH 10, 2014*
*In our world, facts don’t matter:* As we’ve often noted, facts play almost
no role in our national discourse. We’ll give you four quick reasons:
The facts we hear are often wrong. Other key facts get disappeared.
When people in *our* tribe make up facts, we tend to applaud them for it.
And in a highly tribalized culture, it’s hard to convey basic facts across
tribal lines, even if the facts in question are accurate and important.
We’ll now offer a fifth, more specialized reason. Some key facts about the
looting of the middle class tend to get disappeared by... more »

Beloved Ones,
Upon the face of the planet, many changes are taking place. The weather
patterns are creating anomalies in areas that have usually relied on stable
weather conditions. The world’s water sources are being cleansed and
renewed through the efforts of many people throughout the planet who work
together to add energy to the water and give assistance to the water
elementals. Many areas are experiencing drought and this is a worry for
those who live in these places. Other areas of the world a... more »

The SAT was massively changed last Wednesday. Or maybe not, we’re not sure.
Is the SAT being changed in some major way? Even now, we’re not sure—in
large part, because of the blizzard of reporting and punditry which
followed Wednesday’s announcement.
The SAT is a very big deal to upper middle-class readers of our major

Post reacted to last week’s announcement as if V-S Day had occurred.

"The Most Difficult Of All Our Tasks..."
"For one human being to love another; that is perhaps the most difficult of
all our tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which
all other work is but preparation. I hold this to be the highest task for a

*The sugar war descends to "ad hominem" abuse*

dismissed as a crank for his war on sugar he is now seeing his crusade
become the fad of the day. Now that fat has been exonerated as the main
cause of obesity, the do-gooders have had to find a new villain -- and
sugar has been elected to that role. Your total calorie intake undoubtedly
influences your weight but where is the evidence that sugar is more
fattening than other calories? There is none. So all we see below is

The Price Of Conservatism
Robert Reich writes that, in the three decades after World War II, the
United States created the largest middle class the world has ever seen:
During those years the earnings of the typical American worker doubled,
just as the size of the American economy doubled. (Over the last thirty
years, by contrast, the size of the economy doubled again but the earnings
of the typical American went nowhere.)
In that earlier period, more than a third of all workers belonged to a
trade union — giving average workers the bargaining power necessary to get
a large and growing share of the lar... more »

Three interesting hep-th papers
First, a comment about the phenomenological hep-ph archive. Three new
"primarily hep-ph" papers among twelve, namely the papers #5, #6, #8, are
talking about the \(3.5\keV\) X-ray line that Jester described as a
possible dark matter signal. Jester would talk about "sterile neutrinos"
but the three new papers try to identify the dark matter particle with a
radiative neutrino; decaying moduli; and axinos. If you're intrigued by the
\(3.5\keV\) line, maybe you should bookmark the list of followups to the empirical
paper by Bolbul et al..

How the construction-industrial state really works
So... for a couple of years now a man, we'll call him Mr Ching, who lives

ignored the law and built one end of it into the alley behind. The city has

alley, some day.
Anyway, the program was always presented to Mr Ching as an urban renewal
program, under which he'd have certain rights since the government was
involved, and he could appeal to the authorities if anything ... more »

“The Rights Trap is the belief that your rights will make you free. It’s
not hard to fall into this trap and become preoccupied with your rights as

Unfortunately, rights exist only in theory. In practice, they don’t
