*Oil Wars: Why OPEC Will Win -- Roger Andrews, Oil Price*
In the green corner we have the US shale producers. In the red corner we
have the oil exporting countries of OPEC. Assuming the fight is fought to a
conclusion, who wins?
OPEC wins. The US shale producers will shut down first. The reasons are:
• The US shale producers are motivated by economics, and all other things
being equal will have an incentive to cut production at or around the point
where production cost exceeds sales price.
• The OPEC countries are motivated by social imperatives. They have

Our government has decided that the too-big-to-jail banks are also too big the bail OUT. Therefore, it is a given that the next banks to crash will refinance themselves by bailing IN, which means conficating their depositors' money. Theoretically, we are all protected by deposit insurance up to $250,000, but the FDIC doesn't have enough to remburse one bank's loss, much less if they all collapse at once. The Top 50 "Elders" in the Tribe of the Very Very Rich
DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 11 hours ago
*by Gaius Publius*
I've been writing about the "billionaire class" lately, trying to characterize
them, give them names, faces and wealth numbers. For example, we know that
the Top 20% owns 85% of American wealth, as of 2009. We also know that
income distribution, which isn't quite the same as wealth distribution, is
also very skewed. For example, this is from 2011 data (slightly rounded):
- Average income of Top 0.01% — *$23,800,000* per year
- Average income of the rest of the Top 0.1% — $2,800,000
- Average income of the rest of the Top 1% — $1,020,000

Property Is Racist

Originally published on CounterPunch
While most cops - as so many contend in the USA these days - may not be
racists (let's say, for the sake of argument, that they aren't), it is
nevertheless still the case that the police, as an institution, is racist
through and through.
This is because, among other things, as an institution, the police is an
appendage of the larger institution of property. The police serves
property. And property - in the US at the very least - is inextricable from
racist dispossessions of wealth. Property is racist.
Indeed, it is no coincidence that the term ... more »

*Plunging Oil Prices May Trigger Unrest -- Mark Thompson, CNN*
A global glut of oil will persist next year, putting further pressure on
prices and raising the risk of unrest in some producing countries.
That's the stark warning from the Paris-based International Energy Agency,
which on Friday cut its forecast for global demand growth in 2015. It now
sees demand growing by less than 1% next year.
Oil prices have already fallen by more than 40% in six months, but there's
little sign of that stimulating demand yet, or constraining production

Hong Kong Property Rights
Steve at Thinking Aboot - 1 day ago
Did you know that in Hong Kong you can only buy property for 100 years.
This the result of 6000 years of civilisation knowing the economic risks of
perpity.
Now in Canada the Chinese come as predators. We are all like deer in the
headlights stunned by the big cash money.
We are making a big mistake giving away the future or real estate to those
who have been kicked out of their home market for abuses
that the Empour had to resolve.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: Perigo on Nathaniel Branden
Peter Cresswell at Not PC - 1 day ago
“One of the cleverest con-men ever. Glib and plausible to a fault. On the
level? Not remotely. Ayn Rand's biggest mistake, with no other mistake
coming close. Guilty of all the things he accused her of, including
intellectual bullying. (Told Tibor Machan for example their friendship
would be over if Tibor kept posting on SOLO.) An ignoble liar, whose
systematic, conscientious deceitfulness screams from the pages of Rand's
journals, where we know more in hindsight than she knew at the time. An
extraordinarily angry man who made anti-anger a virtue and legitimate rage
a vice. Booris... more »
GOP Push Uses California Drought Emergency To Enrich Corporate Farms And Wreck Environmental Protections
DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 1 day ago
Tuesday the House passed David Valadao's misleadingly-named California
Emergency Drought Relief Act of 2014, 230-182. It was co-sponsored by 6
clueless right-wing California Republican ideologues, Ken Calvert, Paul
Cook, Doug LaMalfa, Kevin McCarthy, Tom McClintock and Devin Nunes, plus
the most right-wing fake Democrat in the California delegation, Blue Dog
Jim Costa. Every Republican voted for it and Costa was joined by 5 of his
fellow reactionary Blue Dogs who generally back conservative Republican
approaches: John Barrow (GA), Jim Matheson (UT), Mike McIntyre (NC), Nick
Rahall... more »

Why President Obama Is Not Going To Replace CIA Director John Brennan
War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 1 day ago
John Brennan, Central Intelligence Agency director, speaks at a rare news
conference at CIA headquarters in Virginia, Dec. 11, 2014.
*Why Brennan Is Still Leading the CIA -- Mike Dorning and Jonathan Allen,
Bloomberg*
John Brennan has been as close as anyone to President Barack Obama on his
most sensitive national security decisions, from drone strikes to the 2011
raid that killed Osama bin Laden.
That helps explain why Obama isn’t abandoning his Central Intelligence
Agency director despite some calls for his resignation following release of
a Senate report detailing the CIA’s br... more »

*"Appreciating Suggestions: Other People’s Agendas"*
by Madisyn Taylor, The DailyOM
"People will always have an idea about how you should live your life, but
your idea is the only one that matters. As children, our parents had dreams
for us. They wanted us to do well in school, and to do whatever was
necessary to reach our highest potential. Later in life, friends may try to
set us up with their idea of the perfect partner or the perfect job.
Spouses may have agendas for us, too. People close to us may have ideas
about how we should live our lives, ideas that usually come from love ... more »
