At Baroness Thatcher's funeral, journalist Jonathan Mirsky wonders: What was I doing there?
*"The Bishop of London, the Right Reverend and Right Honourable Richard
Chartres, KCVO (Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order), gave a kind
of eulogy in which he recalled sitting next to Prime Minister Thatcher at a
banquet: 'She gripped my arm and said, "Don't touch the duck pâté, Bishop.
It's terribly fattening." ' "*

The West Fertilizer Co., scene of an explosion last month that killed 15

Gladue reports must be balanced and objective
R. v. Lawson, 2012 BCCA 508 cites R. v. Blanchard, 2011 YKTC 86 holding:
[28] Finally, as a form of pre-sentence report, Gladue reports

WILL ISRAEL PRE-EMPTIVELY ATTACK HEZBOLLAH?
After the end of the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel when Israel
attempted to destroy Hezbollah but miscalculated Hezbollah’s tenacity to
resist, Hezbollah was rearmed by Iran via Syria. While some of those
rockets are now stockpiled in Syria, many are in storage bunkers in south
Lebanon. These new rockets are far more advanced than the ones Hezbollah
used during the 2006 war.
The Israeli war against Hezbollah ended in humiliation for Israel since its
war aims of both destroying Hezbollah and occupying south Lebanon up to the
Litani River were never realised. Israel’s defeat ... more »
Just Skip The First Paragraph-- This Is About Obama And Medicare, Not Obama And Syria
If we're already fighting in Syria, it happened between the time I wrote
this and Blogger published it. Right now-- as I'm writing-- Israel has just
bombed a little for the past few days-- and, of course, there are no boots, no
U.S. boots, on the ground in Syria (or... Iran). I'll add an update below
when that changes. Although maybe I should remind everyone that in year 5

Speaking Spanish, and the perils of criticism
It’s tough to serve up criticism in a second language.
Or it is for for me. I spent a day last week working with four other people
on a funding proposal for a Honduran NGO. In Spanish.
Luckily, one woman was making notes on her computer, which were projected
on a screen in the meeting room. Instead of struggling to grasp spoken
comments, I could read them. My personal effectiveness increased tenfold.
(Another occasion to give heartfelt thanks for technology.)
Responding still wasn’t easy. While meetings leave me feeling like my head

Near Term Extinction
The majority of modern society is clustered together in the hope and
optimism pavilion, taking deep tokes on the bong of pleasure-filled
fantasies (cough!). At the other end of the spectrum are the Near Term
Extinction (NTE) folks. They profess absolute certainty that climate
change will be the final chapter in the human story. Our current mode of
living will disintegrate by 2030, and a few scientists, like Malcolm Light,
predict that all life on Earth will be extinct by 2050. Ecology professor
Guy McPherson is a primary spokesperson for NTE.

"Most people fail to understand basic mathematical concepts such as

Interested in which 2016 possible candidates you find unacceptable, out of

If the US believed he committed 9-11 , which was justification for the War against the Taliban and Afghanistan , explain US cooperation with Al Qaeda after the attack for three months after 9-11 ..... which would mean Bin Laden was cooperating with the US during Operation Enduring Freedom which commenced 10/7 01 , practically through the operation in the Mountains of Tora Bora ! !

(The Guardian) – The world's most widely used insecticide is devastating
dragonflies, snails and other water-based species, a groundbreaking Dutch
study has revealed.
On Monday, the insecticide and two others were banned for two years from
use on some crops across the European Union, due to the risk posed to bees
and other pollinators, on which many food crops rely.

Fear: How Not to Be Seen

(Grist) – Republican voters are told over and over by Fox News, Rush

scare campaign orchestrated by scientists with liberal agendas. Ergo,
Republicans are less likely than others to believe that fossil-fuel burning

America Is Embracing The Secret Police Culture Of The Nazis
Michael Snyder
Why do so many Americans want us to become more like Nazi Germany? When I
was growing up, I was taught that Nazi Germany was the antithesis of
everything that America stood for. I truly believed that we were "the land
of the free" and that we were a bright, shining example for the rest of the
world. Unfortunately, over the past couple of decades America has been
eagerly embracing the secret police culture of the Nazis. In a desperate
attempt to feel "safe", we have decided to become much more like our
arch-enemies of the past. In fact, in many ways we have alre... more »

Say hello to the correction

You know, markets* are* self-correcting to some extent, maybe not enough
that we don't have to inspect meat or test drugs or set safety standards

products and frankly annoying things like the lies and propaganda and
bigotry that Clear Channel produces and airs on about 600 radio stations in
the US aren't doing well in the market any more. Perhaps it's that people
are getting tired of the slander and quasi-treasonous, excremental and

Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo has its roots in the French occupation of Mexico, which took
place in the aftermath of the Mexican-American War of 1846-48, the Mexican
Civil War of 1858, and the 1860 Reform Wars. These wars left the Mexican
Treasury nearly bankrupt. On July 17, 1861, Mexican President Benito Juárez
issued a moratorium in which all foreign debt payments would be suspended
for two years. In response, France, Britain, and Spain sent naval forces to
Veracruz to demand reimbursement. Britain and Spain negotiated with Mexico
and withdrew, but France, at the time ruled by Napoleon III, dec... more »

Most people who haven’t seen the film, “Exile - a Myth Unearthed” assume
it’s a ‘one-sided diatribe’. Biased-BBC accuses the BBC of pulling the film
from the schedule as it was aimed at the delegitimisation of Israel and its
right to exist, therefore too controversial.
However, in accord with the BBC’s inherent bias against Israel, that
particular controversy doesn’t seem a very logical reason for the BBC’s
abrupt change of schedule. Past performance intimates that the BBC happily
airs any number of one-sided diatribes against Israel while grimly
insisting that they are not politi... more »
Guantanamo Detainee Lawyer, Andy P. Hart: Suicide or Murder?
On May 1, Truthout's Jason Leopold reported Hart's "apparent suicide." He
represented a number of Guantanamo prisoners. More on that below.
Key questions remain unanswered. Why would a federal public defender kill
himself? Where and when did he die?
Was an autopsy performed? If so, by whom? Why has no information been
revealed? Why wasn't his death immediately announced? Apparently several
days passed before it was. Why the secrecy?
An alleged suicide note and thumb drive perhaps containing information on
his cases remains concealed. Why?

sophisticated missiles bound for the Lebanese political and military

The so-called resource curse is most often understood in the context of
small nations whose revenue streams are dominated by the exploitation of a

resource curse has multiple dimensions and [that includes] damage to some
extremely beautiful landscapes, not to mention the core issue of adding to
the reckless spewing of pollution into the Earth’s atmosphere as if it’s an

ISRAEL ATTEMPTS TO PROVOKE REGIONAL WAR
It’s clear that Israel’s strategy is to use the Syrian Civil War to
deliberately provoke Hezbollah. The provocation is designed to goad
Hezbollah into retaliation for over-flying Lebanon while on their way to
apparently destroy weapons that the Israelis say are bound for Hezbollah.
The strategy has worked before. In 2006 the Israelis flew low level high
speed jet sorties over Lebanon. Hezbollah responded by launching rockets
into Israel. The situation then quickly escalated when the Israelis
prepared reconnaissance patrols into south Lebanon. This resulted in an
Israeli patrol unit... more »
