I am virtually certain the 2013 Eurovision crown will be lifted by an
Englishwoman. But it won't be Bonnie Tyler.
It's the same old story almost every year. The UK's warbling ambassadors
take to the stage and, invariably, come home with next to no points. In the
first part of the last decade our sub-par performance was blamed on the
fall out from the Iraq War. And as the decade wore on, the UK progressively
fell foul of Gazprom-orchestrated block voting. Hmmm. Lack of success is
laid at the feet of others who refuse to play fair - a typically British
response you might say.

Is Trauma Counselling Actually Harmful?
It seems standard these days that survivors of traumatic incidents of
man-made or natural disaster are quickly whisked into trauma counselling.
It seems pretty intuitive - people are traumatized, people get counselling.
A report from *The Observer* claims new studies show counselling can
actually worsen mental health outcomes for trauma victims.

US and European elites will intensify their efforts to destroy their fellow

wealthy and powerful. They will succeed because the deluded, brainwashed
voters in these countries will waste their time on contests between
pea-brained right-wing nutbar parties and mewling, milquetoast "liberals"

The elites don't worry about the debts of their governments because they

Remember How Much We Hated Bush's Job-Destroying "Free" Trade Agenda? Now It's Obama's Agenda

Israhell Is Not Afraid To Attack Syria Because It Has Nukes
Many people around the world are shocked at Israel's outrageous behaviour

The answer to this question is really simple, but it is often overlooked.
Israel's criminal leaders know that Israel does not face an existential
threat from any of its neighbours because of its large stockpile of nuclear
weapons. It can be aggressive towards Muslim states because it can afford
to be. It has many nukes and bought-and-paid-for US power waiting in the

Memo to my fellow Democrats: The enemy is not “the Republicans,” rather it is the Republicans AND Democrats “elected” to Congress and the White House. (I put “elected” in quotes because the elections are systematically rigged.) Here Paul Craig Roberts, a highly educated old-school Republican with on-the-job credentials in both Reagan’s cabinet and Wall Street, relates the work of other educated out-side-the-box thinkers who see the U.S. media for what it is: a propaganda machine that would make Goebbels jealous. Roberts finishes with a critic of Obama’s recent speech to the graduating class of The Ohio State University: “Outdoing George Orwell’s Big Brother, Obama said in public to a graduating class of a great university without shame: ‘You have grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as . . . some sinister entity that’s at the root of all our problems; some of these same voices also doing their best to gum up the works. They’ll warn that tyranny is always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices.’” Well, tyranny is already here my friends. But thanks to the “presstitute” media, the majority of Americans are unaware that the U.S. Constitution has long since been shredded.

What Mattered This Week?
I don't know yet whether the IRS scandal will turn out to matter, but it
certainly could. I wrote about it yesterday...we're certainly going to get
investigations and Congressional hearings, at the very least, so I'll go
ahead and say it mattered.
And, yeah, I don't really think that this week's Benghazi fuss will turn
out to have mattered.
What am I missing? What do you think mattered this week?

We're Still In Afghanistan To Save The Ladies?
And what happens if we stay?
I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the same week the CIA reassured Hamid
Karzai that nothing-- including the Sequester here-- would slow down the cascade

bases in Afghanistan after the occupation officially "ends."

The Robber Barons of the industrial age wrung everything they could from

During the late 1800's to early 1900's in the US there was much movement

conventional wisdom regarding HIV/AIDS is based. House of Numbers could
well be the opening volley in a battle to bring sanity and clarity to an

It's a long clip. Greenwald's retort comes in around the 7-minute mark.
What is particularly irksome about Maher's Islamophobia is the shallowness

Precipitation and Temperature with Tim Ball
Climate is about the surface heat engine. That heat is absorbed and held
by water, reflected a little by clouds and desert. Some is held indirectly
through water vapor in the atmosphere. The rest is in the ocean.
All this means is that tracking temperature is tracking a derivative of
heat shifts and terribly misleading. It was this understanding that led me
to infer that we have an increased flow in the Gulf Stream driving our
current warm spell in the Arctic. El Nino is about warmer waters first.

California dad 'begged for his life' as police beat him to death - witnesses

A California father of four died Wednesday shortly after a group of
police allegedly beat him with batons as he lay defenseless on the
sidewalk. Cops, before confiscating witness' cameras, also reportedly
unleashed a canine unit on him.
David Sal Silva, 33, allegedly resisted when police approached him to ask
if he was who neighbors called about to complain of an intoxicated man in
the area. The officers called for backup and, witnesses told the
Bakersfield Californian, Silva was soon being beaten in the face... more »
IS LIFE FAIR?

*North Korean kids. By Benoit Cappronnier*

*Is life fair?
Why does one person apparently 'choose' to be 'good' and another person
apparently 'choose' to be 'bad'?
According to some philosophers, our actions are either determined by
matters such as heredity and environment, or they are a matter of chance.

It suits the top criminals to believe that their 'wicked' actions are
purely the result of heredity, environment and chance.

The Pink Ribbon is About the Message - Not Necessarily the Cure
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure charity defines its mission as finding a
cure for breast cancer.
For thirty years people have been gathering to "race for the Cure"

This entry is NOT about dissing those who feel that Komen has been of

I would not do the Komen race - cause it's not about "a cure".

How the Media Prevents Meaningful Discussion About the Environment
Alex Pietrowski
For a normal human being who understands the value of having clean air and
water to consume, clean soil to grow food in, and of living in a habitat
that can support life, it is frustrating to watch one environmental
calamity occur, after another without ever seeing a mainstream,
non-politicized conversation about the condition of our natural world. It
seems that merely expressing concern over the direction the environment is
going is enough to solicit a number of stigmatized labels, such as hippie,
liberal, terrorist, downer, debbie-downer, slacker, tree-hugger, ... more »

Wall Street Shill Maria Bartiromo Exposes A "Continued Assault On The Banks" (No, Really)
Watch CNBC's Maria Bartiromo (above) further ingratiating herself with the
banksters on Thursday: "While the banks have done wrong, it is time to ask
the question, 'what more does the public want from the banks and why are we
trying to destroy this vital industry?' Federal Reserve official Dan
Tarullo's recent speech on the banks, creating another alternative to break
up the mega banks, he is proposing linking liquidity and capital, meaning
the more a financial firm relies on wholesale funding, the more capital it

Taking on Bladder Cancer with Cannabis
Constant Change
Approximately two and a half years ago I was diagnosed with stage 1 bladder
cancer after having experienced blood in the urine and slight pain when
urinating. Non-invasive surgery followed using a catheter, this was called
a trans urethral resection.
Two years went by without a problem and then blood appeared again in the
urine followed by another resection in December 2012. This was followed 2
months later (Feb 2013) by another to cauterize excessive bleeding and I
was advised by the Urologist that the tumour was quite invasive.
In the meantime all sorts of sce... more »
Agenda 21 Redistributes Wealth Through Stealth
Julie Beal
I’ve got a very important story to tell, so listen closely. Fed a diet of
‘alternative reactions to the mainstream news’, you probably won’t know
about any of this, because it’s not had much of a public airing. The final
push of Agenda 21 is to unite us all, mainstream and alternative alike – an
end to the current system, and the institution of the ‘fair sounding’ new
world order: green and caring.
There have been several attempts to co-opt the Occupy movement to advance
this agenda, which is neither green nor caring. In fact, it intends to
exploit nature and people ... more »
US Business Owners Can Be Fined and Imprisoned for Supporting Israeli Boycott
*A little known US law has actually criminalized boycotting Israel.*
Daniel Jackson
Would Stephen Hawking be fined or jailed for boycotting Israel if he ran a
business in the United States?
Over the years many prominent activists and organizations have called for
and participated in a boycott on Israel.
This swelling boycott is primarily due to, among other reasons, the
humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the overall Israeli treatment of
Palestinians throughout the region.
Recently famed scientist Stephen Hawking even joined the boycott, opting to
pull out of an upcoming conferen... more »

The Nasty Party
Andrew Coyne's opinions tend to fall on the right side of the political
spectrum. That fact, however, does not make him a fan of the Harper
government. In this morning's *National Post* he writes:
We’ve had some thuggish or dishonest governments in the past, even some
corrupt ones, but never one quite so determined to arouse the public’s
hostility, to so little apparent purpose. Their policy legacy may prove
short-lived, but it will be hard to erase the stamp of the Nasty Party.
The Harperites have deliberately chosen to present themselves as the Nasty
Party. Coyne, in fact, agr... more »
Congrats to Miley Cyrus!
As you know, this blog is a huge fan of Miley Cyrus. Anyway, ... some
magazine voted her one of the top-50 sexiest women in the world. I don't
know if ephemeral is on the list. Or those two chicks I saw walking home
yesterday who were checking out a restaurant menu. I'm not going to link to
the magazine awards. I really don't care. I'm not really a Miley Cyrus fan.
I read about the "sexiest women" list in some column in one of the free
dailies yesterday.
I'm just typing shit for the sake of typing shit.
If Bill Gates had no money, who would listen to him about education reform?
In 2013, again, U.S. political leaders and the public appear disgusted with
a public education system, but this sentiment has been with us since the
Committee of Ten declared education inadequate in the 1890s. We must, then,
come to terms with two facts: (1) We must drop Utopian claims about
education because education is not the sole key to […]

the Berkeley Buddhist Monastary.
What really happened in Benghazi and do the State Department memos hold the answers?
If you rely upon the BBC for your news then this sory will mean next to
nothing as the Obama-loving BBC just don't cover this story.
So read this from Fox News and then this link to some MSNBC coverage. When
even MSNBC are asking questions of the Obamamessiah's administration's
story then you know something's up.

Stay drunk, America. Eat more burgers. Drink beer. Watch football. Shop.
paris, day two
Our only full day in Paris was mostly wonderful and a bit frustrating.
We started the day with a small breakfast in a cafe, as we like to do in
Europe, as opposed to eating at the hotel. Watching local people come and
go, I remembered how locals always stand at the bar for their little
morning coffee, and how we did that every morning when we were in Italy.
Later in the morning, after breakfast, I do the same, as one little
breakfast coffee is not enough for my caffeine addiction! After breakfast,
we stopped at a local store for water and fruit - another routine we want
to get into... more »

Sigma 17-70mm first pics =UPDATED=
My first non-kit lens was the Tamron 18-200mm aspherical zoom/macro, which
for some strange reason I was never happy with. It performed as advertised
and always took good pics. Yet, my other lenses (Tokina 100mm macro, Canon
50mm F1.8, Tamron 70-300mm) I have always felt are totally enjoyable
lenses, but the Tamron 18-200mm left me cold. Dunno why. So this week I
finally sold it off and picked up a Sigma 17-70mm f2.8 - 4.0 DC HSM OS lens
(Photozone.de review) as my walking around lens.
My first test shots are here -- all done with the optical stabilization and

Feynman, Schwarzschild: anniversaries
Richard Feynman would celebrate his 95th birthday today.
One of the most colorful and ingenious physicists of the 20th century would
deserve much more than a blog entry – so just like in the cases of other
giants, I will abandon all attempts to write a would-be comprehensive
biography.
Instead, you may watch this 37-minute NOVA interview (above) filmed in
1973. You're also invited to remind yourself about the story of Feynman and
feminists (the latter were clearly immensely obnoxious already decades
ago). Interestingly, you may look what I wrote exactly five years ago.

The weaker yen's impact—the dollar has climbed 16% against the currency

prices of imported food and gas and drawing a flood of tourists whose
currencies now buy more goods in Japan. It is bolstering sales and profit
at exporters whose goods can be produced at lower prices for global

The Real News - Pakistan's Elections More Unpredictable than Ever
For a politician, there is nothing like garnering sympathy before a huge
election, so to see Pakistan's rising political star Imran Khan making an
emotional speech to voters from his hospital bed after he fell from a stage
and injured his head and back is a bit . . . opportunistic?
Hey, whatever works for you. But the dignified thing to do in that
situation would be to rest and recover quietly, and stop the speech-making
for just a little while.
