Age of Consent Demonstration ~ London (Photo credit: Robert Croma)
The above is regarded by historians as the most accurate surviving likeness of Mozart, painted when the composer was 26 years old. It is a section of an unfinished 1782 portrait by Joseph Lange. The splotchy texture of the composer's cheeks, visible in the original painting on display at the Mozart Museum in Salzburg, was verified by Mozart's contemporaries. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Sunday Classics preview: The symphonic Mozart dips into the minor
*Leonard Bernstein prepares listeners for listening afresh to Mozart's
Symphony No. 40. (Warning: It's pretty technical.)*
*by Ken*
I had a couple of possible post ideas that started to overlap and scrunch
into each other. I had in mind a post where we would listen to the iconic
first movements of Beethoven's Fifth and Ninth Symphonies, and I was
thinking separately about my curious ambivalence about Mozart's symphonies
with the notable exception of the G minor, No. 40. And it was hard to
escape one thing these three landmark symphonies have in common.
For tonight I thought we'd s... more »
Consent is not vitiated in all circumstances of sexual assault causing bodily harm
*R. v. Zhao,* 2013 ONCA 293 requires subjective intention to cause bodily
harm before consent for assault bodily harm is vitiated. The Court also
considered whether (without deciding) vitiation of consent is limited to
socially valueless conduct – such as consent fights. Consent might be
available as a defence even where bodily harm is intended and caused, as
long as the activity has social value – such as intimate (consensual)
sexual relations. *Zhao* questions older decisions which made consent no
defence in cases involving bondage type sexual activity (see para 79).

Jon Favreau is tired of hearing the whinging about why won't Obama lead the

Today, a minority of senators can kill bipartisan legislation that is
supported by a majority of their colleagues. And they frequently do. In the
House, the speaker alone can kill bipartisan legislation that is supported
by a majority of his colleagues. And he frequently does.
They do this not by changing minds with persuasion, but by blocking it with

Think of it as an aerial solar panel. The aircraft, Solar Impulse, is now

Right now it's at 15,900 feet with an airspeed of 26 knots that translates,

weather must be avoided.

International Workers' Day
The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW or the Wobblies) is an
international industrial union that was formed in 1905. The origin of the
nickname "Wobblies" is uncertain.
The IWW promotes the concept of "One Big Union," contends that all workers
should be united as a social class and that capitalism and wage labor
should be abolished. They are known for the Wobbly Shop model of workplace
democracy, in which workers elect their managers and other forms of
grassroots democracy (self-management) are implemented. IWW membership does
not require that one work in a represented workplac... more »

The last time CO2 was this high, humans didn’t exist – ‘There is the possibility that we’ve already breached the threshold of truly dangerous human influence on our climate and planet’

3 May 2013
(Climate Central) – The last time there was this much carbon dioxide (CO2)
in the Earth's atmosphere, modern humans didn't exist. Megatoothed sharks
prowled the oceans, the world's seas were up to 100 feet higher than they
are today, and the global average surface temperature was up to 11°F warmer
than it is now.

Why Bother With Climate Change? The World is Ending Soon Anyway.
Apparently an awful lot of Americans have embraced *"End Times Theology".*
As they see it, the world is ending soon anyway so there's no point

A study by David Barker of the University of Pittsburgh and David Bearce of

Void for Vagueness
R. v Levkovic, 2013 SCC 25 deals with the concept of a law being void as

The evidence from around the world is conclusive - photo radar reduces
