The Quebec government plans to forbid the wearing of religious garb in
government facilities. There will be time limited exceptions for religious
hospitals or schools that elect to opt out. Absent such exception someone
wearing a kippah (and perhaps a sheitel) could neither work for or receive
services at a Quebec hospital. The expressed purpose of the legislation is
to protect Quebec values and traditions. Put differently, the legislation
is designed to make religious minorities as invisible as possible.

fresh chemical weapons attack on Damascus, this time on the suburb of
Jobar. The alleged attack resulted in casualties, activists told al Arabiya
on Thursday.
Not finding this a credible claim. If I am not mistaken isn't this how the
previous chemical weapon claim began? Via the opposition and Saudi Arabia?

James Purnell wants to keep the NOA at bay
The Culture Secretary, Maria Miller, has said that the National Audit
Office must have full access to the BBC’s accounts, linking her decision to
the controversy over excessive pay-offs for senior BBC executives.
The present situation is that the NAO can only access the BBC's accounts
once a quarter, and only with the BBC Trust's permission.
The corporation's Head of Strategy, former Labour Party cabinet minister

M51, the Whirlpool galaxy. Seen together they seem to trace the curve and
dot of a cosmic question mark, recorded in Lord Rosse's 19th century
drawings as one of the original spiral nebulae. Dwarfed by enormous M51
(aka NGC 5194), NGC 5195 spans about 20,000 light-years. A close encounter

Project XIII Desktop: Interview with Caleb and D
I just did an interview with Caleb Skinner for the launch of ProjectXII-
the Desktop app!! We kept the chatting to a bare minimum and managed to

At Least Tell Us What You Won't Do.
There's an orthodoxy among Canada's political parties that policy must not
be disclosed until on the advent of a general election - if then.
Election campaigns, however, are really awful venues for unveiling
policy. They're hurried and harried and awash in lies and accusations,
emotional appeals and electoral sleight of hand. Just squeezing in an
intelligent discussion of policy can be impossible.
But let's face it. If we're to be governed by consent, the very
cornerstone of democracy, it has to be informed consent freely given.
