Obama's 14th-Dimensional Chess Moves Questioned by Events/Testimony
It's been a pretty big day for news. Less so for comprehension. Those
rebels shown in a New York Times video executing Syrian soldiers after
torturing them – those were FSA "moderates." And remember the Syrian rebel
cannibal who filmed himself eating the heart – or was it a liver? – of a
captive soldier? "With the guy who was eating a heart, he was part of a

I used to be the president of my university's Young Democrats. That didn't
even last a full semester. I soon discovered that there was a sharp, sharp
difference between a progressive and a Democrat. These days there aren't
any Republicans who are progressive. There are barely any Republicans left
who are even conservative. They've moved *so far* right-- from conservative
to reactionary-- that they left plenty of room for the Republican wing of
the Democratic party to feel comfortable donning conservative mantles.

Fine; I'll do a baseball one to close out, and then I'll try to go back to

What happened to the Giants? That's easy. As of today, they have 47 starts

ERA+ under 80. That's not the whole story, but it's most of it. I'm not

terrible starting pitchers, you're not going to win very often.

Q Day 7: Evaluating Presidents?
Dan asks:
When evaluating presidents, what weight do you give to the actual policies

It's a hard question to answer. I try to evaluate them based on policy
"success" in which success means that it worked...but what works and what

Last evening at Fenway Park, history wasn't made as much as
commemorated when the Boston Red Sox honored Mariano Rivera, indisputably
the greatest closer of all time. This being Number 42's final season and

Q Day 2: Speaker Boehner?
Kal asks:
What would it take for you to consider Boehner a "failure" as Speaker?
This is a great question, since I often say that Boehner is a pretty good
Speaker, but don't always really explain what I mean.
So, what would make Boehner a failure? First and foremost, if his own
conference turned against him (especially early in his tenure). That would
be pretty good evidence. But you're probably thinking: there was a
semi-revolt against him at the beginning of this Congress! Well, yes, but I
think that's hard to hold against him; those who opposed him were from the

On The Syrian Front, The World Is Not Out of The Woods Yet: Prepare For New False Flags To Be Blamed On Assad
Why is the Syrian government *declaring victory* after the U.S. and Russia
made a deal about the status of its chemical weapons? This is an obnoxious
and stupid move. No victory is a victory if it is not decisive.
Don't the Syrian officials know that full-scale war against them is still

Russia is tentative at best, and purposely designed to fail because of the
artificially shortened timetable to hand over the chemical weapons.

Leviathan asks:

If for a good chunk of those congressmen, their main disincentive is a

the GOP's future, then the most opportune time for a vote would be after

Iraq’s economy is based upon a contradiction. It has huge natural wealth

The Emerging Police State
It all began with the War on Drugs and racial profiling. If you're looking
for the origins of the new police state, Chris Hedges writes, that's where
you should begin. Both developments made it easy to target minorities. Any
police state begins with an attack on an easy to identify minority:
The unrestricted and arbitrary subjugation of one despised group, stripped
of equality before the law, conditions the police to employ these tactics
against the wider society. “Laws that are not equal for all revert to

The most dangerous job in the world ...
Police

Doesn't concern Steve. He's too busy. Not drinking alcohol. Keeping dope

"unprecedented" ... because he's never heard of the Great War or the
Nazi gas chambers of the 2nd World War.
This man is in so far over his head.

#SurveillanceState: Set your controls for the heart of surveillance
Art and architecture are extremely revealing. Of your choices in these
sciences of the soul it could be said, “by your choices shall we know ye.”
What then for the choices of the One-Star General in charge of the NSA,
General Keith Alexander, among whose first move upon his appointment to the
role of being the world’s Bugger in Chief was to commission Hollywood set
designers to model his central control room after Star Trek's Enterprise.
A room he christened his 1100 square metre "Information Dominance Center”:
It had been designed by a Hollywood set designer to mimic the bridge ... more »
New Money Printer in Chief just waiting to be announced
The next Ruler of the Free World’s Bank has been all but announced, after
the other leading candidate thought better of grasping what Tyler Durden
calls “the Fed’s shitty stick.”
World’s most central Central Banker, the Chairman of the US Federal Reserve
and the hope of billions of dollars is to be current Deputy Chairman Janet
Yellen, who was one of Chairman Ben Bernanke’s main in-house cheerleaders
as he furiously blew up asset bubbles in stocks and bonds.
Which means what we’re likely to see from Yellen is more of the same asset
bubble inflation, at least until any more is made... more »

Assad: "We're Not Social Media Government, We Are The Government That Deal With Reality"
"How can you talk about what happened if you don’t have evidences? We’re
not like the American administration. We’re not social media administration
or government. We are the government that deal with reality." - Syrian
President Bashar al-Assad, from his interview with CBS (Cultivating
Bullshit) host Charlie Rose. (*Source*).
Good way to put it.
The Obama administration is relying on social media for its intelligence
gathering in Syria. It's fucking pathetic. A huge empire is using faked
YouTube videos to defend its case of why it is threatening Syria and why it
must be attacked.

Republicans in disarray
I'll probably rot in hell for taking such untoward pleasure in watching the meltdown
of Boehner's House of Dysfunction. The establishment GOPers empowered the
crackpots in order to gain a majority. Clearly it didn't go quite the way
they expected. There's a raging civil war going on within the party. Rank
and file Republicans are looking for some leadership to chill down the Tea
Party caucus and they aren't finding any. Both Johnny and Cantor are in
hiding.
I think it's going to get ugly but the way forward is clear.
There will be voices of caution about how the Democrats have to b... more »

Lazy crazy days of Summers
Well. On top of having averted an air strike by the US and another chemical
weapons strike by Assad inside of Syria this week, here's more good news
from inside the Beltway.
Former White House economic adviser and Treasury secretary Lawrence H.
Summers has withdrawn his name as a candidate for Federal Reserve
chairman...
I couldn't be happier. He would have been a disaster in that spot. Of
course, I don't suppose we'll get Janet Yellen either. Certainly not if President
Obama really believes the banking industry is just fine. It's not. It's
still very much broken.

bank deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day.
What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course? Each of us has such a

Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes
off as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to a good purpose.
