The American People Have Spoken: No More War Abroad, More Jobs at Home - Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Huffington Post:

At a time of great political division in our country President Obama has found a remarkable way to unite Americans of all political persuasions -- conservatives, progressives and moderates. With a loud and clear voice the overwhelming majority of the American people, across the political spectrum, are saying NO to another war in the Middle East -- Syria’s bloody and complicated civil war.

There are two major reasons why the people in this country are adamantly opposed to the U.S.’s military intervention in Syria.

First, of course, is the much discussed “war weariness.” The United States has been at war in Afghanistan for 12 years, and the war in Iraq dragged on for nearly nine years. The cost of these wars has been horrendous: more than 6,700 American deaths; hundreds of thousands suffering from traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder; and a financial cost of between $4 trillion to $6 trillion by the time the last war veteran receives needed care. Further, as a result of the ineptitude and dishonesty of foreign policy decisions made in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, the American people worry deeply about the unintended consequences of another military venture.

But there’s another reason why Americans are reluctant to get involved in a third Middle East war in 12 years. And that relates to the fact that Congress today has a 14 percent favorability rating and millions of Americans have absolutely no confidence that the U.S. House or Senate is even remotely concerned about their needs or views.

Here’s the truth. The middle class in this country is collapsing. The number of Americans living in poverty is nearly the highest on record and the gap between the very rich and everyone else is growing wider and wider. And very few people in Washington give a damn.

Fermented foods are the best route to optimal digestive health, as long as you eat the traditionally made, unpasteurized versions. Some of the beneficial bacteria found in fermented foods are also excellent chelators of heavy metals and pesticides, which will also have a beneficial #health effect by reducing your toxic load. Healthy choices include:
- Fermented vegetables
- Lassi (an Indian yoghurt drink, traditionally enjoyed before dinner)
- Fermented milk, such as kefir

Star investigation: Millions in taxpayer-funded consulting work kept secret

A Star investigation has found 90 per cent of the $2.4 billion paid out in the past decade comes with no description of the work done — and more than a dozen departments refuse to provide details when pressed.

Tony Clement says although auditor general can’t find $3.1B allocated to anti-terrorism, no one saying money ‘misspent’

Federal departments and agencies spent about $3.1-billion less on public safety and anti-terrorism activities than they were allocated. The federal departments handling most of the Canadian government’s secrets are risking security breaches by handing out contracts dealing with classified and other sensitive information to suppliers before they have met the proper security clearances to do the work. The audit examined the security practices of the same departments as in 2007 – Public Works, National Defence and the RCMP – but added lead security departments Communications Security Establishment and spy agency the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.

Daisy, a mom of two, takes home about $600 per paycheck from her job at Wal-Mart. Last year, a lower court signed an order that allowed a debt collector to take 25% from each of Daisy’s paychecks.

The SPLC & Legal Services Alabama took her case before an appeals court, arguing the Alabama Constitution allows Daisy to protect her entire paycheck because it qualifies as minimal income, the minimum amount of money necessary for survival. The court overturned the previous decision, ensuring Daisy wouldn't lose one-quarter of her wages.
This ruling will help protect the paychecks of very low-income Alabamians across the state.

How Wal-Mart’s Walton family holds onto their billions

This is the story of two genuine scientific heroes. For forty years, John Bahcall and Ray Davis were engaged in a single extraordinary experiment - to find out why the Sun shines. In the end they would triumph. Davis would win the Nobel Prize and, thanks to their work, a whole new theory about how the universe is put together may have to be created.

Interesting story breaking.. "Calling their gas a ‘hydro-nano’ gas (or hydrogen-atomic nano gas, HNG), the Sweden-based #HydroInfra Technologies claims their technology “instantly neutralizes #carbon fuel pollution emissions.”
The HNG technology was developed by former Volvo engineer Sven Erik and was based upon the Nobel Prize-winning research on hydrogen atoms and diatomic alkali by Yuan Tseh Lee (whom Erik met at a Nobel ceremony several years ago).
The company also plans to offer its technology to coal- or oil-burning power plants around the world, stating that inserting HNG into the exhaust system has been proven to completely reduce pollution emissions to zero. Governments eager to meet or exceed their reduction targets are also on their list.
Here in the US, it has been estimated (see: Space Daily) that some 1,200 power plants are scheduled to be shuttered due to high CO2 (and other) emissions. If implemented here in the US, these plant closings could be avoided, temporarily avoiding a potential power demand crisis that might ensue in some regions.

Trump told Maria Bartiromo the op-ed was “amazingly well-written” and revealed a big disparity between how well Putin has handled Syria and how poorly President Obama has. Trump said the op-ed was utterly humiliating for Obama and made Putin look like the real leader.

Trump said Putin is trying to “become the world leader,” and is simultaneously embarrassing and bailing out Obama with the op-ed. He said Putin looks like the professor and Obama’s a small “schoolchild.”

Trump kept piling on Obama, noting how no matter what he seems to do, scandals never stick to him.

“He’s Teflon, he appears to escape from everything, whether it’s Benghazi or whatever it might be, so many different things.”

Trump said flatly that Putin’s op-ed is really good for Russia and horrible for the U.S., acknowledging that it’s hard to dispute some of the points he raises.

RAMA FIRST NATION - Orillia may be the Sunshine City, but Rama First Nation is about to cash in on the sun.

Rama has completed the installation of solar panels on 15 homes that will generate more than 500,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year into Ontario’s power grid.

“We are a proud, progressive First Nation,” said Chief Sharon Stinson Henry.

“One way of being progressive is achieving green energy, which benefits not just the First Nation community, but the province of Ontario because we feed into the grid. And it’s a revenue generator at the same time. Being green, revenue generation and job creation is very important to Rama,” she said.

Each house in the project is equipped with between 20 to 50 three-by-five-foot solar panels. The panels feed solar energy to the inverter, which feeds to the disconnect, which feeds to the meter, then to the electrical grid.

David Underhill, conservation chairman with the Mobile Bay Sierra Club, said Plains Southcap should not even have received eminent domain authority because of a lack of transparency in the process.

Underhill and others have criticized the Public Service Commission's proceedings in 2011 for lacking the proper notification about the project to people living in Mobile County. The hearings were also held in Montgomery, and were not attended by any concerned residents or local politicians.

"Any power of eminent domain done by deception and trickery should not have legal standing regardless of what kind of corporation they are," Underhill said.
