Lucid dreaming is a remarkable and potentially liberating state of consciousness in which we are explicitly aware that we are operating within a dream: an artificial simulation being created within consciousness. That knowledge transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary, and the dream state becomes a “magic carpet” with which we can explore beyond the small-mindedness of untested assumptions about reality that our rational minds convince us are fact. Recent science has built upon ancient teachings to develop new techniques and technology that have made lucid dreaming more widely accessible.
Some ways to induce lucid dreams include the following:
- Spending at least 10 minutes in putting down and recording your dreams in the morning. Even if you wake up in the middle of the night, try to remember and write down what happened.
- Performing as many as 10 or more reality checks during the day, and these should be spaced out during the day. Perhaps even make a marking on your hand and look at it throughout the day, and in your dream you will notice it missing and will become lucid.
- Spending up to 20 minutes in the afternoon to incubate a lucid dream. The techniques to use here include meditation, self hypnosis, and visualization of what you wish to experience in your dream.
- Before you go to bed at night, repeat this to yourself: "I will remember to recognize that I'm dreaming". Fall asleep repeating this in your head, and this awareness will subconsciously carry into your dreams. Know that in your dream, you will remember that you are dreaming. Affirmation is important.
There is an awesome program designed to make you a master at lucid dreaming and astral projection containing 6 informative ebooks on these topics and includes techniques, benefits, tips, and guidelines, as well as audio files and tons of bonus material. There is also information and audio files of binaural sound frequencies and how we can use these to explore our minds. This program is accessible and effective.
