Are Agents Provocateurs From The Coup Regime Behind The Attacks On The Coptic Churches?
The leaders of Egypt's military coup has a very savvy propaganda operation,
which I would bet anything is directed from what we used to call "Madison
Avenue." The drum they were beating over the weekend was about biased
western reporting. "Biased," from their point of view, means covering
events independently of the lies the coup leaders are demanding is the
story. It drives them crazy when western media-- like the *Times of Oman*--
runs dispatches like Sisi cannot get away murdering Egyptians.
Egypt is getting soaked in blood virtually every day. Within a trifle over

Every year I have to learn all over again -- the margin of error, with the

there are better ways to go about this, but this is what we do:
We gather up containers for the freezer, and a Sharpie for writing on the
container, spread out some newspaper, find a round toothpick, an
old-fashioned milk bottle or a glass carafe, the basketball pump, the
high-speed Dremel-style tool (ours is a Craftsman), and a bowl of soapy,
salty water.

Paulo Coelho, "Killing Our Dreams"
"Killing Our Dreams"
by Paulo Coelho
"The first symptom of the process of our killing our dreams is the lack of
time. The busiest people I have known in my life always have time enough to
do everything. Those who do nothing are always tired and pay no attention
to the little amount of work they are required to do. They complain
constantly that the day is too short. The truth is, they are afraid to
fight the Good Fight.
The second symptom of the death of our dreams lies in our certainties.

It's Here - Earth Overshoot Day, This Year 20 August, 2013
Tuesday, August 20, marks Earth Overshoot Day for 2013. This is not a
record to celebrate. It tells us that, in under eight months, mankind
exhausts an entire annual supply of renewable resources. After that, we're
eating our seed corn. Another way of looking at it is that, at current
rates of biomass consumption we need 1.5 planet Earths.
Now you might be asking yourself how mankind could possibly be using up
more renewable resources than the Earth can provide? The answer is we're
very good at it or very bad at it.
Biomass provides us the stuff we consume. It also absorbs ... more »

why he awarded compound interest:
Courts of equity have always exercised the power to award compound interest
whenever a wrongdoer deprives a company of money which it uses in its

not been deprived of the money, it would have made the most beneficial use
of it available to it. Alternatively, it should be presumed that the

Christie, Strategic Politicians, and the 2012 Cycle
John Sides makes the point today that Chris Christie's choice to pass on WH

a strategic candidate might have looked at the landscape in 2011 and said,
“You know what, I’ll have a better shot in 2016.” And we aren’t suggesting
that there aren’t idiosyncratic factors at work either. It’s just to say
that Christie’s decision was nicely in line with what political science

How Germany Made a Killing on the Euro-Crisis

Is Japan's Prime Minister's Mansion Actually Haunted?
Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe won't set foot in the place. In 2007,
during a previous term in office, Abe left the prime minister's mansion
and, despite being re-elected seven months ago, he shows no signs of
wanting to go back.
*Rather than move into the presidential home, Abe has preferred to make the
15-minute commute from his family's house to the office and has shown no
indication that he is preparing to move into the art deco mansion in the
heart of Nagatacho, the capital's political district, where he lived during
his previous stint as prime minister in 2006-07.*

RODEO CLOWNS: And cable news hosts!
*MONDAY, AUGUST 19, 2013*
*Part 1—Escape from the Klan:* Tuffy Gessling is, or was, a rodeo clown.
Let’s make sure we understand what we mean by that statement.
We don’t mean that Tuffy Gessling is *like* a rodeo clown. We aren’t using
the term metaphorically, as a type of insult, the way it’s often employed.
At some point, “rodeo clown” became a generic insult, a rude suggestion
that some person isn’t enormously bright. When used in this insulting way,
the term functions like “itinerant carnival worker,” or perhaps like “cable
news host.”
One example:
In 2007, John Mellencamp in... more »

When there are popular, anti-government protests in police states, state
security forces dress in civilian clothing and do heinous things like cause
destruction to private property in order to delegitimize the protests and
justify the full use of state violence against the opposition.

Lost Babes
*Written by Grant G*
Innocence of the child, fragility of a kitten, both can be sculpted into
fine art or molded to reflect the harsh reality of a cold advanced
society...
It amazes me how the poorest and hungriest children of the world will feed,
care for and protect a kitten, those babes with nothing and without
hesitation would rather starve than watch an innocent feline waste away, is
it something born to us, ingrained at birth, the need to care for and
protect those even more helpless, or is it a way to remain feeling human in
a world turning more and more alien, more col... more »

DID EGYPTIAN GOVERNMENT MASS EXECUTE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD PRISONERS WHILE BEING TRANSPORTED IN A SEALED TRUCK?
Some 38 Muslim Brotherhood prisoners today died after being asphyxiated by
tear gas while locked inside the back of a truck. While the Egyptian
authorities claim that the prisoners died after they took a guard hostage
in an attempt to escape, the Muslim Brotherhood through a ‘legal source’
has accused the Egyptian authorities of deliberately murdering the prisoners.
I find it very difficult to believe that one guard would be left alone in
the back of a truck to look after 38 prisoners. And, even if it happened
they way the Egyptian authorities tell it, then what happened to the gua... more »

Sunday Classics: Dance a cachucha! Returning to the "Gondoliers" Overture
*APOLOGIES FOR THE LATE POSTING*: *I really wanted to do something more
with this post, and I just wasn't getting it done. Finally I decided to go
with what I had more or less ready, reserving the right to return to the
subject.*
*MONDAY NIGHT UPDATE*: *With time to reflect, I've revamped the post to
include vocal texts. After all, if I'm inviting you to listen, *really
listen*, to the various performances, and I am, I am, the texts could help,
and even raise questions like: For which recordings are the printed texts
most and least necessary?* -- Ken

The Poet: TS Eliot, “The Hollow Men”
* *
*“The Hollow Men”*
by TS Eliot
“We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar
Shape without form, shade without color,
Paralyzed force, gesture without motion;
Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom
Remember us - if at all - not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.

Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
In death's dream kingdom

discoveries make me happy
I
am always astonished to see stories such as these.
A tree-dwelling animal with a teddy-bear-like face and rust-coloured
furhas become the newest mammal species discovered by scientists.
The olinguito, the smallest known member of the raccoon family, lives in
the cloud forests high in the Andes Mountains of Colombia and Ecuador,
reported a team of scientists from the Smithsonian Institution in
Washington, D.C., which described it in the journal ZooKeys Thursday.
The animal has actually been displayed in museums and zoos over the past
100 years, but was mistakenly identified as a di... more »
a witchunt and its backlash: interest in "a people's history" surges, thanks to censorship attempts
Once upon a time in the state of Indiana...
Howard Zinn, author of A People’s History of the United States, one of the
country’s most widely read history books, died on January 27, 2010. Shortly
after, then-Governor of Indiana Mitch Daniels got on his computer and fired
off an email to the state’s top education officials: “This terrible
anti-American academic has finally passed away.”
But Gov. Daniels, now president of Purdue University, was not content
merely to celebrate Howard Zinn’s passing. He demanded that Zinn’s work be
hunted down in Indiana schools and suppressed: “The obit... more »
Marriage Equality
Today’s the day equality of marriage becomes law. Time for a quiet
celebration—the day when loving couples of whatever sexual persuasion can
formalise their relationship and ask for the state to recognise their
contract.
It should hardly be controversial, should it?
After all, how is it anybody else’s business who you love?

ARROGANT JEWISH SETTLERS TERRORIZE PALESTINIAN FARMERS
The Jaber family of al-Baqa'a is being harrased and attacked by the Zionist
settlers of Kiryat Arba. This incident was filmed by Hudaina and Atta
Jaber's daughter through the house window on July 12th, 2013. Her father,
who arrived at the scene as the settlers were rampaging around the house,
had fainted and was given water by the ITF soldiers who would not apprehend
the settlers a moment earlier.
How America Lost Egypt: Washington's Support For Al-Qaeda Was The Straw That Broke The Camel's Back
*The Great Nation of Egypt Has Told The Evil Empire And Its Jihadist
Terrorist Proxies: Go To Hell, And Take Al-Qaeda With You!*
In his statement on recent events in Egypt, *President Obaaama said*,
"America cannot determine the future of Egypt. That’s a task for the
Egyptian people. We don’t take sides with any particular party or political
figure. I know it’s tempting inside of Egypt to blame the United States or
the West or some other outside actor for what’s gone wrong."
Not a word in that statement is true. Washington has taken sides in Egypt
and the Arab world. It is o... more »
“I Love You, Mr Lange”
Sean Plunket rather overstates his case about the magnitude of last last
week’s John-off on TV3, by comparing it with the justifiably famous 1984
television debate between a fading Muldoon and a rampant David Lange. But
it did make me re-watch the debate, which was fascinating after having not
seen it for nearly thirty years.
This was truly a historic moment in New Zealand affairs—the moment when NZ
turned from Muldoonist despair to a hope that Lange was so good at
articulating, a moment Muldoon himself seemed to recognise in rolling over
in that famous last line of the night.

Grimm assessments
New York Congressman Michael Grimm is appalled Obama would use his
executive power to do nice things for the peoples because, founding fathers
never intended that to happen.
Rep. Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.) said recent executive actions by President
Obama, including a plan to extend high-speed Internet connections to
virtually every school in the nation, demonstrate a "blatant" attempt to
subvert the will of the American people.
"It's just a flagrant, you know, arrogant disregard not just for the
current Congress," Grimm said in an interview with Fox News. "Look, it's
not about me per... more »
