FDA Says No Need To Worry About Current Leakage From Fukushima Nuclear Plant
U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorities confirmed that there is
no need to worry about the radio active leaking from Fukushima Daiichi
nuclear plant in Japan. The regulator said the leaking in to Pacific
Ocean is relatively minimal and fish consumers in the region need not be
concerned about the disclosure of radioactive leaking.

Much
of Wall Street is now vacationing in the Hamptons. Other captains of
industry and finance are on Nantucket, or Aspen or Vail. Barack Obama
and his family are on Martha's Vineyard. But most Americans aren't
taking a vacation this summer. In fact, most Americans don't get any
paid-vacation time at all this year. More than a third are contingent
workers -- working at one or more part-time jobs, or on temporary
contracts, or self-employed. Another 22 percent are in low-wage
industries that don't give paid vacations -- in fast-food, big-box
retail, restaurant, or hotel chain. (More than half the 162,000 new jobs
recorded in July's jobs report were in low-wage industries.) The five
largest employers in America, including Walmart and McDonalds, all pay
minimum wage or close to it, with no paid vacation. Another 12 percent
who need to work still can't find a job; the share of the population in
work is near a three-decade low.
What to do? We've got to
raise the minimum wage to something closer to a living wage -- but that
can't be all. Unions gave us weekends -- the 40-hour workweek with
time-and-a-half for overtime -- along with paid vacation time and sick
leave. And decent wages. But that was when more than a third of
Americans belonged to unions, so many that even non-unionized employers
offered prevailing wages and benefits. Now, fewer than 7 percent of
private-sector workers are unionized -- while America's rich (including
the Walton family, whose wealth exceeds the combined wealth of the
poorest 25 percent of Americans) -- are richer than at any time in
history. At the very least, low-wage workers at Walmart, McDonalds, and
other the other big chains, need a union. Many of them are conducting
wildcat strikes this summer. Please support them.
