One of the soil carbon report authors, Professor Chen, said that even at the relatively high carbon price of $23/tonne, all practical soil management practices lost at least $3 per hectare per year. The researchers found that under normal cropping practices, farmers would need about $36 per hectare just to break even on carbon payments.

A Western Australian scientific study using broadacre farm practices found that $80 per tonne would be needed for a farm just to break even on costs

( Note comment by Michael Kiely would imply dumping past carbon farming without payment next year and not paying new startups past that date even then until a start a further 5 years in the future! Yet  http://www.carbonmarketservices.com.au/carbon-farmers-of-australia-blog is focusing on

Delivering vaccines where they’re needed most

Kevin Reilly, a long-time pharmaceutical and vaccine industry leader, is no stranger to complexity: “Getting a vaccine successfully from the factory door to the arms of millions of children in low-resource settings—that’s an enormously complicated task.” Both the work of developing and of delivering vaccines is immensely challenging (and different), he explains, but increased understanding between pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturers and global health organizations, along with patience and persistence, are accelerating efforts and saving lives. Read more on the Skoll World Forum >>

POLICE are examining new information believed to be alleging Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed were murdered by a former British soldier.

It is understood the allegation was made by the former parents-in-law of a former soldier based on information that the ex-soldier talked about in the past, according to a military source.

It is believed the information was passed to the Metropolitan Police through the Royal Military Police.

Scotland Yard is now assessing the"relevance and credibility'' of the new information.

The 'People's Princess', her boyfriend Fayed and their driver Henri Paul died after their Mercedes crashed in a Paris tunnel after leaving the Ritz Hotel on August 31, 1997. Diana was 36.

A royal spokeswoman said there will be no comment on the matter from Prince William or Prince Harry, or from Clarence House.

    Do you agree?

Obama suggested in an interview with the New York Times that was published on Saturday that you need to be a lawyer to understand the U.S. Constitution.

The president made the suggestion when talking about members of Congress who have argued he does not have the constitutional authority to unilaterally suspend enforcement of parts of the Obamacare law.

The Times asked Obama if he “consulted” with his lawyer when making the decision to suspend the employer mandate, which would require businesses with more than 50 employees to buy them health insurance, and which was supposed to take effect on Jan. 1, 2014.

“[I]f you heard me on stage today, what I said was that I will seize any opportunity I can find to work with Congress to strengthen the middle class, improve their prospects, improve their security,” Obama said.

“But where Congress is unwilling to act, I will take whatever administrative steps that I can in order to do right by the American people,” he said.

“And if Congress thinks that what I’ve done is inappropriate or wrong in some fashion, they’re free to make that case,” Obama added.

“But there’s not an action that I take that you don't have some folks in Congress who say that I'm usurping my authority. Some of those folks think I usurp my authority by having the gall to win the presidency. And I don't think that's a secret.”

“But, ultimately, I’m not concerned about their opinions--very few of them, by the way, are lawyers, much less constitutional lawyers,” the president said.

TNRA podcast, 7 August 2013: The internet revolution: what went wrong?

In the 2nd hour of today's show Josh Jackson and I take you on a journey into the history of the internet with aim of discovering where, why and how this amazing tool of empowerment and communication became a tool for the big brother corporatist state.

In the first hour I am joined once again by Luke McKee, who brings us a new perspective on the crackdown on gay rights in Russia which has been in the news so much lately. We re-visit the horrific story of the gay pedophile dads who "bought" a one year old Russian child who was exploited for sex until their arrest in the US in 2011. A large part of this tragic story took place in Australia where the pedophiles lived and were interviewed in a gushing pro gay marriage radio interview by Australia's national broadcaster the ABC....See More

If you have noticed a rise of mindless trolls on facebook and other internet sites, always 'debunking' everything by copying and pasting the same stuff on countless threads, you might be looking at a paid disinformation agent.

Students in Israel are also paid a LOT of money to troll on sites which talk about their crimes in Palestine and other criminal activities by trolling sites with pro-israel propaganda....

"Israel wants to pay university students to post pro-Israel messages on social media networks, and officials say they won't need to identify themselves as government -linked. The Israeli prime minister's office said in a statement Wednesday that students would receive scholarships to engage international audiences online to combat anti-Semitism and calls to boycott Israel. It said students' messages would parallel statements by government spokespeople.

An Israeli official said Wednesday that scholarship recipients wouldn't need to identify themselves as part of the program, which would begin within months. He spoke anonymously because the project is still under development. The Israeli daily Haaretz identified the official heading the project as Danny Seaman, a spokesman who has written Facebook posts criticized by the media as being incendiary and anti-Muslim."

After allegedly hacking into NASA websites -- where he says he found images of what looked like extraterrestrial spaceships -- the 40-year-old Briton faces extradition to the United States from his North London home.

If convicted, McKinnon could receive a 70-year prison term and up to $2 million in fines.

Final paperwork in the case is due this week, after which the British home secretary will rule on the extradition request.

McKinnon, whose extensive search through U.S. computer networks was allegedly conducted between February 2001 and March 2002, picked a particularly poor time to expose U.S. national security failings in light of the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

McKinnon tells what he found and discusses the motivation behind his online adventures in this exclusive phone interview with Wired News.

    McKinnon:
I knew that governments suppressed antigravity, UFO-related technologies, free energy or what they call zero-point energy. This should not be kept hidden from the public when pensioners can't pay their fuel bills.

Wired News: Did you find anything in your search for evidence of UFOs?

McKinnon: Certainly did. There is The Disclosure Project. This is a book with 400 testimonials from everyone from air traffic controllers to those responsible for launching nuclear missiles. Very credible witnesses. They talk about reverse-(engineered) technology taken from captured or destroyed alien craft.

WN: Like the Roswell incident of 1947?

McKinnon: I assume that was the first and assume there have been others. These relied-upon people have given solid evidence.

    WN: What sort of evidence?

    McKinnon:
A NASA photographic expert said that there was a Building 8 at Johnson Space Center where they regularly airbrushed out images of UFOs from the high-resolution satellite imaging. I logged on to NASA and was able to access this department.

They had huge, high-resolution images stored in their picture files. They had filtered and unfiltered, or processed and unprocessed, files.

My dialup 56K connection was very slow trying to download one of these picture files. As this was happening, I had remote control of their desktop, and by adjusting it to 4-bit color and low screen resolution, I was able to briefly see one of these pictures.

It was a silvery, cigar-shaped object with geodesic spheres on either side. There were no visible seams or riveting. There was no reference to the size of the object and the picture was taken presumably by a satellite looking down on it.

The object didn't look manmade or anything like what we have created. Because I was using a Java application, I could only get a screenshot of the picture -- it did not go into my temporary internet files.

At my crowning moment, someone at NASA discovered what I was doing and I was disconnected.

I also got access to Excel spreadsheets. One was titled "Non-Terrestrial Officers."

It contained names and ranks of U.S. Air Force personnel who are not registered anywhere else. It also contained information about ship-to-ship transfers, but I've never seen the names of these ships noted anywhere else.

WN: Could this have been some sort of military strategy game or outline of hypothetical situations?

McKinnon: The military want to have military dominance of space. What I found could be a game -- it's hard to know for certain.

WN: Some say that you have given the UFO motivation for your hacking as a distraction from more nefarious activities.

McKinnon: I was looking before and after 9/11. If I had wanted to distract anyone, I would not have chosen ufology, as this opens me up to ridicule.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS DOING IN NEW MEXICO DESERT?

Mysterious pair of overlapping circles with a diamond inside believed to be navigation markers for space craft

First close-up pictures of the Church of Scientology's 'alien space cathedral' built in a remote part of the New Mexico desert.

Scientology's 'alien space cathedral and spaceship landing pad' built in the New Mexico desert for the 'return of followers after Armageddon on Earth'

For behind the three-story house are tunnels dug hundreds of feet deep into the rock. Inside them are Hubbard’s texts, believed to have been either engraved on stainless steel tablets or gold discs and encased in titanium capsules underground.

Compound is 20 miles from nearest town and has a landing strip and its own water supply

Tunnels stretch for hundreds of feet into cliff behind unassuming facade and reportedly hold sacred texts

The mysterious building which leads to an underground vault sits next to two giant symbols carved into the ground - believed to be markers for the religion's followers to find their way back from the ends of the universe after humanity is destroyed in the future.

    -->

Mystery symbols: The two giant overlapping circles, each with a diamond in them, are believed to have been trademarked by the Church of Technology, a branch of Scientology

Signs: The symbols are thought to be landing markers, which signify a 'return point' so members of the church know where they can find the works of church founder L. Ron Hubbard

While no one knows the definite meaning of the pair of overlapping circles, each with a diamond in them, it is believed to have been trademarked by the Church of Technology, a branch of Scientology.

Scientists and others are worried that might happen, with possible devastating effects on native shrimp and the Gulf of Mexico's ecosystem. The invaders could gobble up the tiger's share of native shrimps' diet, not to mention crabs, snails, oysters and other bivalves, and the local shrimp themselves — because all shrimp are carnivores. And, in turn, that could affect the larger animals that eat those critters.

Tiger shrimp are named for their black-and-white or black-and-yellow stripes. They're known from the "slip an extra shrimp on the barbie" line that brought actor Paul Hogan to U.S. fame through an Australian tourism TV ad in the mid-1980s.

The shrimp — native to Indo-Pacific, Asian, and Australian waters — are bigger than native species that they could both outcompete and just plain eat their smaller cousins out of existence.

Scientists say there's no evidence of that happening so far. But the numbers of tiger shrimp reported, with more in inshore nursery areas and juveniles caught along both coasts, indicate that they're probably breeding, said Pam Fuller, who keeps a federal invasive species database at the U.S. Geological Survey's Southeast Ecological Science Center in Gainesville, Fla.

Not all that long ago I was on a TV program debating an economist who had advised several Republican presidential candidates. To the surprise of both of us, we found ourselves agreeing more than we disagreed -- about when government should be spending more (now, when unemployment is still high), and when the deficit should be cut (when unemployment is lower than 6 percent); about whether and how to reduce carbon emissions (both of us agreed on a carbon tax); and about Medicare's underlying problem (not that it's too expensive, but that medical costs are still rising too fast and the baby boomers are rapidly aging).

During the commercial break the producer told me in my earphone that I had to be angrier. "Why?" I protested. "Because viewers are surfing through hundreds of channels and will stop when they see a fight," she said. "But I don't want to be angrier," I said. "You have to," she insisted. "We have only ten seconds before you're on the air again, and I want anger." At that point, I lost my temper.
Not sure what’s going on, might be nothing, but never saw this before! In a Weather Program I use I have the program set to get Weather and Ocean reports from anchored ships off shore. In this case ships anchored offshore in the Mid Atlantic States off the coast of NJ and MD/VA.
