*Cute, cute, cute!!*
That was my first thought when I received an UrbanJet portable fan from
Fanimation. This "retro" styled fan stands just 12.2 inches high. It weighs
approximately 5 pounds and has a 6-inch diameter blade. But don't let its
size fool you ... this fan is powerful.
I tested it out in various areas of our home including our living room, the
largest room in the house. From a distance of 14 feet, I had no trouble
feeling the "wind" from this little powerhouse.
The fan comes with a long cord, making it convenient for a... more »

WHY IS THE ISRAEL LOBBY KEEPING QUIET ON SYRIA CRISIS?
In a recent article in *Politico*, Anna Palmer pondered the question of why
the Israel lobby is silent on Syria. After having spoken with a number of
pro-Israel activists representing pro-Israeli organisations like the
American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and the American Jewish
Committee (AJC) she reports that most have kept quiet about the events in
Syria for two main reasons: one is the uncertainty of what is going on in
Syria and, two, not wanting to seem in any way influential about US foreign
policy relating to affairs in the Middle East – especially after the

Syrian Chemical Weapons False Flag Attack: Claims Of Assad Using Chemical Weapons Crumbling Rapidly - Wall Street Journal Says There Is NO Evidence!
I am truly hoping today that the rush to war by the criminals in both the
United States and Israel can be averted., and very quickly... The facts

The bet was over the price of five commodities over a decade – chromium,

sides believed that the bet was not really about commodit... more »

America At The Economic Crossroads: The Second Gilded Age Must End

In 2013, America stands at the economic crossroads more starkly than
perhaps ever before. The federal budget deficit, though reduced, remains
staggeringly high. Two-thirds of U.S. corporations pay no federal income
tax, and they employ armies of lawyers and CPAs, plus own scores of
lawmakers through campaign contributions, to make sure things stay that
way. Their well-paid mouthpieces tell us things can't really be any other

Republicans' "Market-Oriented" Health Care Reforms Won't Work, Part 2
Last time we examined a common conservative "solution" to the country's

50 Years Later - West Defiles Martin Luther King's Memory
Legendary equality, justice, and peace activist who championed character

In fact, the only thing they have in common is that they are both black.

these diametrically opposed figures - presumably because they are indeed

SPEAK OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN
This is what an US attack on Syria will look like. Tomahawk cruise
missiles will be fired from Navy destroyers just like in 2003 when Bush's
"shock and awe" attack on Iraq began with the firing of cruise missiles
from these same ships.
Many innocent people, likely many hundreds, will be killed in Syria as
Obama "punishes" the already suffering Syrian people even more. For those
liberal Democrats out there that still apologize for Obama, who acts more
like Bush every day, this attack should be hard to swallow. But swallow it
they will.

dear war criminals: don't lecture us about morals as you prepare to bomb civilians
Let me be clear. The indiscriminate slaughter of civilians, the killing of
women and children and innocent bystanders by chemical weapons is a moral
obscenity.

The slaughter of innocent civilians is a moral obscenity? I'm betting the
people of Iraq and Afghanistan* agree.
Or is only the slaughter of civilians *by chemical weapons* obscene? Is
slaughter by bombs - by house raids and checkpoints, by torture and endless
imprisonment - merely ordinary and banal?
Does white phosphorous, the US's chemical weapon of choice, constitute

Quebec Values? No, just politics of separatism.
Newspaper reports suggest that planned legislation in Quebec will forbid

there would be exceptions for religious hospitals or schools. The expressed
purpose of the legislation is to protect Quebec values and traditions.
In Canada there is a constitutionally protected "freedom of conscience and
religion". That right is subject to reasonable limits - and the courts
have held those limits need to be narrow and focused on a significant and
proper governmental objective. It seems most unlikely that the protection ... more »

Quebec is a French island in an English ocean. That's undeniable. The
question has always been, "How should Quebecers react to that fact?" There

that Quebec must look outward and embrace the world.
The Parti Quebecois has opened the isolationist argument again with its

*"Psychopathic Relationships: The Boomerang Effect"*
by Claudia Moscovici
"Relationships with a psychopath are usually like a boomerang. Even after
you toss him as far away as possible, he may still swing back into your
life. Years after they break up with a psychopath, women commonly report
that they're still cyber-stalked or somehow harassed by him, or that he's
still testing the waters to see if he can worm his way back into their
lives. So the question is: Why is it so hard to get rid of a psychopath?
Psychopaths are hoarders of women, even those they tired of and tossed ... more »

“We do not rest satisfied with the present. We anticipate the future as
too slow in coming, as if in order to hasten its course; or we recall the

the times which are not ours and do not think of the only one which belongs
to us; and so idle are we that we dream of those times which are no more

“Elizabeth Bishop has a poem about a sandpiper, a tiny shore bird scurrying
forward and reverse with the lick and ebb of the tide. It was not the
sandpiper I thought of today as I walked the beach, but the sand with which
the Bishop's bird is seemingly obsessed. The last two lines of the poem:
"The millions of grains are black, white, tan, and gray,
mixed with quartz grains, rose and amethyst."
Everyone sees the sandpiper. Who could not? Those fluttering feet. The
delicate engine of its controlled frenzy. But who sees what the sandpiper

CONFIRMED: US Claims Against Syria - There is no Evidence
*August 28, 2013* (Tony Cartalucci) - The Wall Street Journal has confirmed
what many suspected, that the West's so-called "evidence" of the latest
alleged "chemical attacks" in Syria, pinned on the Syrian government are
fabrications spun up from the West's own dubious intelligence agencies.
The Wall Street Journal reveals that the US is citing claims from Israel's
Mossad intelligence agency fed to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), a
repeat of the fabrications that led up to the Iraq War, the Libyan War, and
have been used now for 3 years to justify continued support of extremi... more »
Syria: The Path to Hell
The path to hell is paved with good intentions. And to take most people at
face value who favour military intervention in Syria, they appear to
sincerely favour "doing something" - anything - for the best of reasons.
The chemical attack on a rebel-held suburb of Damascus is utterly
reprehensible, no doubt about that. After repeated massacres of civilians *by
all sides* and the infamous flesh-eating episode that went viral, this
signals a new, barbarous low. Not even the Nazis used biological or
chemical weapons on the battlefield - that was something reserved solely
for helpless in... more »

Remember Curveball: Dangerous, Familiar Twaddle Precedes US Military Assault on Syria
*Update*: Indeed - just as was suspected, according to the Wall Street
Journal's piece, "U.S., Allies Prepare to Act as Syria Intelligence Mounts,"
citing US administration sources, the UN has been urged to end their
investigation and withdraw, and both the discredited CIA and their Israeli
counterparts claim to have the "intelligence" needed to proceed with
military strikes - a verbatim repeat of the fabrications used to rush the
world into war with Iraq upon intentionally false pretenses.

On Syria And Politician’s Logic
As a callow undergraduate, I kind of supported the Iraq War for all of the
normal reasons; see The Republic of Fear and The Threatening Storm. (I say
“kind of” because I was in college and, frankly, tuned out in favor of
studying.) A little while ago, it struck me in one of those blinding

Days before Bradley - now Chelsea - Manning was sentenced to 35 years in

Martin Luther King’s dream: how are we doing after half a century?
So as of today it’s now exactly half a century since Martin Luther King expressed
his dream that his four children would one day live in a world where they
would be judged not by the colour of their skin but by the content of their
character.
Half a century since he expressed the idea that character is all; that skin
colour is just something you're born with; that recognition of that fact
should not be just a Dream.
So how are we doing after half a century? Have we reached that day?

How to admire a cat’s arse, by Chris Trotter [corrected + updated]
Chris Trotter is once again banging the drum for the man with a face like a
cat’s arse to be Labour leader. “The Happy Warrior” he calls David
Cunliffe—the man his own caucus colleagues call, but not to his cat’s arse,
“Silent T.”
Why Trotter would want to saddle Silent T with a nickname previously
associated with Democratic time-servers Al Smith, Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden

better than ‘Silent T’?), but he is so all-fired* out* for Cunliffe you

Miley and modern journalism
So why was Miley Cyrus all over the world news yesterday for a dance at an

*The Onion* asked the Managing Editor Of CNN.Com to explain.
It’s a good question. And the answer is pretty simple. It was an attempt to

Failing Trial Balloon 101?
I have to say: if Barack Obama really does wind up nominating Larry Summers

Worst Use of Trial Balloons.
We've been hearing about the possibility for months. As far as I can tell,

basically three baskets:

The March to War in Syria
*Eric Draitser appears on Press TV on August 25th, 2013 to discuss the
drive toward war with Syria. He explains the importance of the US
timetable for action, noting that the speed with which hostilities might be
initiated tells us much about the veracity of the chemical weapons claims
and US intentions. Additionally, Eric points out the competing factions
within the US political establishment and what this tells us about the
internal politics behind this push for war. *
Will America Debut the F-22 Over Syria?
It's been in service for years and surely it's about time the U.S.
introduced its F-22 Raptor, stealth fighter, into combat. And where better
than in the skies over Syria?
Operating out of an RAF base in Cyprus just a hundred miles distant from
Syria, the F-22 would have no significant fuel problems. It could dominate
the airspace over Syria, protecting the strike force, taking out any Syrian
fighters that rose against the attackers and proving itself invulnerable to
Syrian air defences.

RealClearPolitics poll average finds Congress has a 15 percent approval
rating, making the country’s most hated political body almost twice as
popular”. I will note that about 40% of the population supported the King
of England in 1776.
