Turkish Nationalists Attack US Sailors In Istanbul
*Nationalist Youths Attack U.S. Sailors in Turkey -- New York Times* ISTANBUL — Members of a Turkish nationalist youth group assaulted three visiting American sailors in Istanbul on Wednesday, hurling balloons filled with red paint at them, putting white sacks over their heads and calling them murderers. The Turkish authorities later arrested 12 people in connection with the assault, which the American Embassy in Ankara described as “appalling.” A video posted online by the group, the Turkish Youth Union, or T.G.B., shows a dozen of its members staging an anti-American protest in ... more »

U.S. To Dial Back On Torture?
As President Obama was heading off for talks in China, ambitious Republican 2016 hopeful Marco Rubio joined the caterwauling wing nuts screaming about human rights for Chinese dissidents. I bet you never knew right-wingers care about human rights. But they do-- everywhere except in our own country. So what an unpleasant surprise it must have been for Rubio and the other dedicated congressional human rights campaigners when the Obama administration shifted away from Bush-Cheney torture regiments in Geneva today. *WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2014With race, you just get to complain:* On Monday, Piers Morgan became perhaps the ten millionth person to write a rather pointless column about the use of the N-word. According to Morgan, if black people want white people to stop using the word, they’ll have to stop using it first. None of these things will ever occur, but it does kill a column. Morgan’s column appeared in The Daily Mail, which is published in a different country. You’d think it would be easy enough to ignore such emanations. Easy for others, but not for Salon! Understanding Anbar Pt. XIII Gen Nouri Fahadawi And Col Said Fahadawi
Anbar has a long history of being both a center for the insurgency and opposition to it. The many tribes in the governorate have gone back and forth over whether to oppose the government or not, and that continues into the present day. In fact there are many parallels between post-03 Anbar and today with authorities mistreating the population leading to armed opposition, and then turning on the Islamist militants. In 1914 Canada's population stood at around 8 million. Our economy was productive enough that we were able to mobilize over half-a-million citizens (mostly men) for the war. This was, technically, a remarkable achievement. It was an achievement met by more or less all of the combatants. Never before had it been possible to mobilize so many inhabitants for the wasteful business of war without producing immediate mass starvation and economic collapse. (Although, eventually, the absence of men in the farmer's fields did produce starvation in Germany. And there was collapse in the Russi... more »

In all of the coverage of the European Arrest Warrant there seems to be one inconvenient fact that's being ignored. From Wikipedia: The European Arrest Warrant was established by an EU framework decision in 2002.[5] Framework decisions were legal instruments of the third pillar of the European Community akin to directives and only take effect when implemented by EU member states by transposing them into their domestic law. The European Arrest Warrant replaced the 1957 European Convention on Extradition (ECE) which had previously governed extraditions between most member states, and... more »

Revealing True History: The Last Day Of World War I Was One Of Pure Genocide And Murder!
Today is Remembrance Day here in Canada... On This date some 96 years ago, an Armistice was declared at the 11th hour of November 11th, 1918.... According to "official" history, all fighting on the so called "Western Front" ended at exactly that hour between the German army and the Allied forces.... But as usual, not everything told about that last day of World War I is exactly as it seems.... I want to present the following very important video that shows some true history and facts about that fateful day in 1918 when the First World War officially came to an end... This video is e... more »
@plthomasedd stops me in my tracks. But now I’m rudderless.
PostEverything picked up the following from friend and colleague, Dr. Paul Thomas: Stop blaming poor parents for their children’s limited vocabulary. Essentially, acknowledging that the parents of low income students of color are somehow hindering their children’s performance in reading perpetuates deficit thinking: Deficit perspectives are those that identify a person or a condition by […]
Some Hard Truths In The War Against The Islamic State
*The Spy Who Told Me: Can We Handle the Truth About the Islamic State? -- John McLaughlin, OZY* It’s been two months to the day since President Barack Obama announced an accelerated attack against the so-called Islamic State. So what are the hard realities we’re dealing with? And, given that U.S. officials say it could take up to a year to train and field a ground force to combat the Islamic State in Syria, where will we stand a year from now? A number of harsh realities are staring us in the face, each a reminder of the agonizing choices ahead: *Read more* .... *My Comment:* A ... more »
"A Look to the Heavens"
“Look through the cosmic cloud cataloged as NGC 281 and it's almost easy to miss stars of open cluster IC 1590. But, formed within the nebula, that cluster's young, massive stars ultimately power the pervasive nebular glow. The eye-catching shapes looming in this portrait of NGC 281 are sculpted columns and dense dust globules seen in silhouette, eroded by intense, energetic winds and radiation from the hot cluster stars. If they survive long enough, the dusty structures could also be sites of future star formation. * Click image for larger size.* Playfully called the Pacman Nebula ... more »

The original watercolor is small, not a lot larger than what you will get if you click on the image here... *Click image for larger size.* That's Job and his family at the bottom, enclosed by the thickest clouds, representing the flesh. Under the Lord's left arm is the Moon goddess Diana, the heart or feeling, delicately hol... more »

*“20 Quotes on Dealing with Button-Pushers”* by Dr. Stephanie Sarkis, Ph.D. "We all know the type. The people that seem to instinctively know just how to irritate and anger us. Everyone has buttons that get pushed, and everyone has at least one button-pusher in his or her life. Read on for quotes on how to deal with those people that just know how to drive you up a wall. "Where All The Contradictions Flow Together..."
"We have been to the moon, we have charted the depths of the ocean and the heart of the atom, but we have a fear of looking inward to ourselves because we sense that is where all the contradictions flow together." - Terence McKenna
Paulo Coelho, "Heaven and Hell"
"Heaven and Hell" by Paulo Coelho "A man, his horse and his dog were traveling down a road. When they were passing by a gigantic tree, a bolt of lightning struck and they all fell dead on the spot. But the man did not realize that he had already left this world, so he went on walking with his two animals; sometimes the dead take time to understand their new condition… The journey was very long, uphill, the sun was strong and they were covered in sweat and very thirsty. They were desperately in need of water. At a bend in the road they spotted a magnificent gateway, all in marble, w... more »
