Obama Hatchet Man Eric Holder Tenders His Resignation
These days it's hard to find much positive in this land of false hope and chump change but today is one of those very few days when news is announced that actually improves American government. President Barack Obama's vicious hatchet man of an Attorney General, the dishonorable Eric Holder has announced his resignation. Holder is one of the all time most thoroughly rotten bastards to ever hold the office. He ranks up there with the infamous John Mitchell who was Nixon's A.G. and a Watergate criminal who ended up in prison. If this were truly a just and decent country - which it i... more »

All That Dead Money
http://muncievoice.com/ In 1974, Arthur Laffer famously drew a curve on the back of a napkin while he had dinner with a reporter from the *Wall Street Journal*. The curve illustrated Laffer's theory that, as governments cut taxes, their revenues increased. Margaret Thatcher gave the curve a try and it didn't work. Ronald Reagan gave it a shot, too; but he managed to create the biggest deficit -- up to that time -- in American history. Next in line was Brian Mulroney, whose application of the Laffer Curve caused Canada to hit the ... more »
Why Should The Arabs Continue To Roam Endlessly In A Political Wilderness Of Their Own Making?
Yesterday I happened to pass a TV set while a nice MSNBC was trying to get through her job by interviewing Hisham Melhem, the thoroughly Americanized Lebanese journalist and Al Arabiya News Washington bureau chief. She may not have known it-- trying desperately to keep whatever he was talking about inside the time she was allotted to to with this guy-- but it was an interesting interview, not the questions, of course, but what Melhem had to say. As best I could tell, he wound up on her show because of an article he had penned for *Politico* last week, Within Our Gates-- Arab Civil... more »
Demonstrations Break Out In Hong Kong Prompting A Police Crackdown
*Police, Protesters Clash As Hong Kong Demonstrations Turn Violent -- CNN* Hong Kong (CNN) -- Police are in a tense standoff in Hong Kong with tens of thousands of pro-democracy student demonstrators, recently joined by the like-minded Occupy Central movement, which has announced the formal start of a campaign of civil disobedience in the Chinese territory. The weekend's demonstrations follow a week of student-led boycotts and protests against what many see as the encroachment of China's political will on Hong Kong's governance, in the face of China's decision to only allow Beijin... more »
Cop Shooting in Ferguson Could be a Signal of Renewed Unrest
Memorial to Michael Brown Torched by Vandals Things may be ready to heat up again in Ferguson, Missouri after a police officer was shot and wounded on Saturday night. While the tensions have substantially died down after the shooting of an unarmed black teenager in August led to mass protests and the dispatching of militarized police to put down the unrest they have been percolating beneath the surface. Earlier this week a memorial to 18 year old Michael Brown was burned down leading to renewed protests. This is a ticking time bomb waiting to explode and the shooting could be the... more »
Obama Regime to Begin Selling Arms to Vietnam
After nearly six years of living in the existential Hell of Obamastan it should be pretty obvious to all by now that there is nothing sacred to this villainous administration. With Mr. Hope and Change signing off on yet another war in the Middle East that most certainly is going to need American "boots on the ground" at some point, the dirty hidden dealings within his administration are ongoing. Now according to Reuters the Obama regime is about to lift the arms embargo and begin selling weapons to Vietnam. The Reuters piece which is entitled "Courting Vietnam, U.S. prepares to e... more »

*American Medical Association prostitutes itself to the climate change scare* And let's be clear that it is just a scare. No-one knows what the future holds. Warmism enthusiasts thought that on the basis of the slight warming of the last part of the 20th century they could predict warming from that point on. But their models and predictions were wrong. There has been no climate change (no warming) in the 21st century and no-one knows if the next change will be towards cooling or warming. So the scare is no better than religious prophecies of doom. A scandalous bishop, blasphemy in Pakistan, Opus Dei, atheist evangelicalism, R.E., abortion in Brazil and someone ranting against the West over Iraq

Lockheed to buy European satellite for South Korea in F-35 deal

Lockheed, which builds its own satellites, declined to detail the cost of the new satellite or name its manufacturer, but said the spacecraft would provide a "state-of-the-art" system that met South Korea's military requirements. Proton-M returns to flight with Russian military launch
Russia’s Proton-M rocket has successfully conducted a return-to-flight mission Sunday with the deployment of a military satellite for the Russian government. The mission, carrying a payload named Olimp, ends four months of downtime for Russia’s heavy-lift rocket following a launch failure in May. The Proton-M, which is the largest and most powerful rocket in Russia’s fleet, first flew in 2001 although its design is much older. A modernised version of the earlier Proton-K, which was used from 1967 to 2012, the Proton-M can trace its lineage back to Vladimir Chelomei’s Universal Roc... more »

Theories about its mission have ranged from an orbiting space bomber to an anti-satellite weapon. The truth, however, is likely much more obvious: According to intelligence experts and satellite... more »

do canadians support a war against isis? not so much.
When the US invaded Iraq in 2003, Canadians protested in huge numbers, adding their voices to the unprecedented global outcry against the "pre-emptive" war. It was that massive public support - almost statistical unanimity - that allowed Jean Chretien to keep Canadian Forces out of the war. Even Stephen Harper, who as Opposition Leader was as gung-ho as any Connecticut Cowboy, has since admitted that the war was "absolutely an error". What's more, even most USians now agree that other countries, such as Canada, were right to not support the invasion. Now, we're told, it's different.... more »

I am guessing that much to his dismay, he got a bit winded moving through all those exotic ecosystems. His 57-year-old body, so buff, so pampered, must have protested with a few creaks and groans. His middle-aged elite lungs probably gave out a few embarrassing wheezes. His technocratic brain, deprived of oxygen at the freezing summit, sent him a Eureka moment message: If Ezekiel Emanuel, M.D. can't live forever in a young body, then neither should ... more »

Nomi Prins: "The real battle between the US and Russia is over the gateway countries in political flux. The real winners will be the private banks and oil companies that will reap the strategic benefits from gateway control over related markets and resources, supported by military and political might, and augmented with speculative capital for years to come. American and global citizens, oblivious to all this, will be the losers in this global shell game."

Kiev Regime Violating Ceasefire
The US-NATO backed regime in Kiev is violating the cease fire in eastern Ukraine by shelling civilian homes. It is clear that Kiev (and their western backers) are out to sabotage the ceasefire in order to keep the war going on Russia's border. Just as the US-NATO are creating chaos and endless war in Syria and Iraq the plan calls for more of the same in Ukraine.
Iceland Bankers Convicted and Unemployment is Down
Remember Iceland? During the high-flying early 2000s, its three main banks went berserk, paying high interest rates to international investors that accumulated deposits equal to more than 100% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) and making loans equal to 980% of GDP. When the collapse came, Iceland took a route not taken by Ireland, Spain, and other EU countries: Rather than bail out the banks, the government simply let them go bankrupt. The value of the krona fell by about half, the country was embroiled in disputes with the Netherlands and the United Kingdom over paying ... more »
A pressing matter
Way back in time I was a letterpress printer, linotypist and bindery operator, and such people tend to acquire a "hobby" shop somewhere along the way. I have had a Chandler & Price 10X15 press and a type cabinet (48 cases of type) since about 1986, and for most of that time the shop faced away from the window into the garage. Its footprint assured that ours would be a one car garage, and we need that space now -- for one car and a teardrop trailer. So I got out the jacks, straps, come-along and pry bar and turned everything sideways. I actually like it better like this. This shop ha... more »

Air Force Missions over “hostile” Syria require this newest jet
Hostile Syria?! Since the US started bombing Syria- I have been trying to understand, why it is that Damascus has remained mostly silent on the raids. Bombing the areas that have been under siege for so long can do nothing but assist Syria in their fight against the takfiri- But, what about the very obvious fact that the US& Israel want Assad gone. And will inevitably try to fire on Syrian targets. Perhaps Syria does indeed have very superior air defences? And those air defences are cause for concern? The audio isn’t available yet, but, will soon be. Regardless I am posting it... more »

The Rise Of The 'Rebel' Islamic State In The Middle East Is Nothing New
*The Ancestors of ISIS -- David Motadels, New York Times* CAMBRIDGE, England — IN the last few years, there has been a dramatic rise of a seemingly new type of polity: the Islamic rebel state. Boko Haram in West Africa, the Shabab in East Africa, the Islamic Emirate in the Caucasus and, of course, the Islamic State in the Middle East, known as ISIS, or ISIL — these movements not only call for holy war against the West, but also use their resources to build theocracies. Though in some respects unprecedented, these groups also have much in common with the Islamic revivalist movements... more »

*Back Teaching, My Way This Time* by TOM MCLAUGHLIN People ask if I miss teaching. Up to very recently I've said, "Sometimes, but the feeling goes away quickly." I do miss it though. When I had autonomy in my classroom, which I did up to retirement, teaching was a very gratifying experience. But the federal government has been taking over more and more of public education and it became apparent that I would soon lose my academic freedom and be forced to teach the way "progressives" (a misnomer, that) would dictate. Then there are increased meetings and more meaningless paperwork ...more »
Ted Cruz, Führer Of The Value Voters Summit Neo-Fascist Fringe

Will War Break Out Over The Use Of The Nile River?
Image from Elias Kifle *Nile Water Wars? -- Robert Kaplan, Stratfor* In the 21st century, water could emerge as a more precious commodity than oil. As populations rise, albeit at a slower rate than in the previous century, water becomes a more valuable and critical resource. This is especially true if certain models of climate change portend drought here and there. Wars may not occur because of water; but water, nevertheless, can emerge as both a more important factor and a constraint in geopolitics. A telling example of this has been the increasing tension in the last few years be... more »

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) only considers lying an offense if it fools more than half the target market. If OFT rules were applied, all UK elections would be judged completely "fair". Islamic Non Compete Clause
One of the hallmarks of opposition to Islam and it is not properly a religion either is the mistakan idea that rational human beings will compromise based on what I prefer to describe as natural law. In practise Islam is a scheme to introduce a primitive barbaric code of conduct into a civilized community to the advantage only of males and generally Arab males. In this way it explicitly compares to Nazism which was in fact inspired by Islam. Communism walked the same path in the end as well although they made athism the underlying religion. Both took extraordinary measures to... more »

I Believe That Man........From A Speech by William Faulkner
[image: William Faulkner Quotes] *I believe that man will not merely endure; he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he along among creatures has an inexhaustable voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance. The poets, the writer's duty is to write about these things. It is his privilege to help man to endure by lifting his heart, by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and compassion and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past. The poet's voice need not merely be the recor... more »
New Wars Mean New Profits
Defense Contractors Are Making a KillingBy Dan Froomkin Stock prices for Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman set all-time record highs last week as it became increasingly clear that President Obama was committed to a massive, sustained air war in Iraq and Syria. It’s nothing short of a windfall for these and other huge defense contractors, who’ve been getting itchy about federal budget pressures that threatened to slow the rate of increase in military spending. Now, with U.S. forces literally blowing through tens of millions of dollars of munitions a d... more »
Combat Pay Authorized For US Advisors In Iraq
*Combat Pay Authorized For US Advisers In Iraq; Combat Operations On Case-By-Case Basis -- Red State* Back in June, when the potential October Surprise of military action against ISIS was only a dim gleam in Obama’s eye, some 300 US advisors were deployed to Iraq. What was notable about this deployment was that they were not authorized combat pay. As I noted at the time: It is difficult to see how we help Iraqis “take the fight to the terrorists” if the men we send to do this will be so far removed from combat that they do not draw hazardous duty pay. In order to evaluate what is... more »

"These are galaxies of the Hercules Cluster, an archipelago of island universes a mere 500 million light-years away. Also known as Abell 2151, this cluster is loaded with gas and dust rich, star-forming spiral galaxies but has relatively few elliptical galaxies, which lack gas and dust and the associated newborn stars. The colors in this remarkably deep composite image clearly show the star forming galaxies with a blue tint and galaxies with older stellar populations with a yellowish cast. *Click image for larger size.* The sharp picture spans about 3/4 degree across the cluster cent... more »
Chet Raymo, “The Incredible Potential of Unexpectedness”
*“The Incredible Potential of Unexpectedness”* by Chet Raymo “The Jesuit scientist/mystic Teilhard de Chardin imagined what he called a "noosphere" (from the Greek word for "mind") as the next stage of terrestrial evolution- an envelope of pure human thought embracing the planet. This would be the inevitable result of human progress on a spherical Earth of finite surface area. We rub up against each other. We are stimulated by proximity. Railroads and airplanes extend the range of our interaction. Better still (he wrote), "thanks to the prodigious biological event represented by t... more »

"The Universe Cares Not For Us"
"The Universe Cares Not For Us" By Martin Pribble "I wrote recently about the idea of a "Re-Enlightenment" and about moving forward toward a world which was not controlled by mythology, dogma, and religious doctrine. In a rather flippant final paragraph I wrote: "We need to look at humanity to see how to fix it, not to look skyward and pray for intervention, or worse, the end of days. And I really do think we can do this; we have the knowledge, we have the means, let's make this thing work for all of us." I really think this future is possible. And there are several important thi... more »
Paulo Coelho, “Forget This Idea of Seeking Happiness”
*“Forget This Idea of Seeking Happiness”* by Paulo Coelho “Countries where income is under US$ 10,000 a year are countries where the majority of the population is unhappy. However, it was discovered that from that figure upwards, monetary difference is not all that important. A scientific study conducted on the 400 richest persons in the United States shows that they are only slightly happier than those who earn US$ 20,000. The logical consequence: of course, poverty is something unacceptable, but the old saying that “money does not bring happiness” is being proved in laboratories.... more »

Easy to forget, how the great receiving depth untamed by what we need needs only what will flow its way. Easy to feel so far away and the body so old it might not even stand the touch. But what would that be like feeling the tide rise out of the numbness inside toward the place to which we go washing over our worries of money, the illusion of being ahead, the grief of being behind, our limbs young rising from such a depth? "Is Virtual Collective Consciousness the Future?"
*"Is Virtual Collective Consciousness the Future?"* by Yousri Marzouki "Britlin Losee was a breakthrough for Whitacre's musical creative mind, not only through her dazzling admiration to the artist but most important through her deeply intimate and spontaneous endeavor. Her sensational YouTube video message is a load of emotional cues. This young girl inspired what is now referred to as Eric Whitacre's virtual choir. The hundreds of vocalists who responded to Whitacre's online appeal had to follow his "silent" directing gestures and provide their own tinge to the performance. Thus, ... more »
Everything You Need To Know About The Rise Of The 'Islamic State'
*ISIS: Everything You Need To Know About The Rise Of The 'Islamic State' -- Nick Thompson, Richard Allen Greene and Inez Torre, CNN* The group began in 2004 as al Qaeda in Iraq, before rebranding as ISIS two years later. It was an ally of – and had similarities with -- Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda: both were radical anti-Western militant groups devoted to establishing an independent Islamic state in the region. But ISIS – unlike al Qaeda, which disowned the group in early 2014 – has proven to be more brutal and more effective at controlling territory it has seized. *Read more* .... ... more »

For example, would you really think it necessary to ask, as LinkedIn seemed to feel I wanted to, "Why Successful People Never Bring Smartphones Into Meetings"? Unofficial Book unveiling today at Mexicayotl Academy in Tucson

Well... it wasn't an actual unveiling (that's Oct 12 - Indigenous Peoples Day) but what it was is, I taught 1st graders, and 2nd and 3rd graders, about the Nahuatl creation story of Maiz: "Quetzalcoatl, the ants and the Gift of maiz." After teaching it to them, they extemporaneously performed it. It was awesome... In ... more »

*No, Containing ISIL Is Not “Good Enough” -- Brad Taylor, War On The Rocks* Is the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) contained? And would that be good enough? Dr. Christopher Bolan of the U.S. Army War College seems to think so. He argued as much recently here at War on the Rocks. While Bolan’s line of reasoning is appealing to many Americans who are tired of costly foreign entanglements, both parts of his argument fall apart when subjected to scrutiny. ISIL is not contained. Bolan states that approximately 30,000 ISIL fighters, armed with little more than rifles, face a... more »

A Parliament of Whores - The Sexual History of Watergate
"Courts are a capricious venue for arguments about history. Sometimes, as when a British court last year resoundingly rejected the Holocaust denial of "historian" David Irving, litigation can help protect established history from those who would maliciously rewrite it. But conspiracy theorizing generally is better addressed in the public arena by rigorous confrontation with facts. That's true both out of respect for freedom of speech---even wrong-headed speech---and because historical truth does not always fare so well in court. A jury in Tennessee in 1999 embraced the loonies... more »
