Is it a right? Of course. I was born here. I have a right to be a Canadian citizen. I don't have to earn it, and I don't have to ask Mr. Harper's permission. Is it a privilege and must be earned? "The A-10 provides a valuable mission. However, there's other aircraft out there that can do the same mission as the A-10," said Col. David Iverson, who took command of the 366th Fighter Wing in February. The Idaho Air National Guard has 22 of the planes at Gowen Field in Boise. Three other Air Nati...more »
ISIL hit U.S. F-15 with anti-aircaft batteries captured from Iraq

Officials said the U.S. military has determined that ISIL deployed an unspecified number of anti-aircraft artillery to counter Western air strikes in northern Iraq. They said an F-15 fighter-jet was hit by ISIL fire in late August that damaged the hydraulic system and forced the aircraft to land in neighboring Turkey. Read more
Aerial target QF-16 takes to the sky
The Air Force's newest aerial target took a major step toward preparing warfighters downrange with a realistic fourth-generation replication of what they may face on the battlefield. The first unmanned QF-16 Viper struck down over the Gulf of Mexico Sept. 5, 2014, was part of a joint effort between the Test and Training Division at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, and the 82nd Aerial Target Squadron here. "This test was the culmination of years of planning and aircrew training specifically tailored to stand up the next generation of full-scale aerial targets," said Lt. Col. Ryan Inma... more »

If Scotland votes Yes, what happens to Trident?
[image: Vanguard class SSBN]Since the start of the referendum campaign, the MoD has insisted that no contingency plans are being made for a relocation of Trident in the event of Scottish independence. They were relying, so they said, on the good sense of the Scottish people not to vote for separation. And even as the polls have swung towards a Yes vote, with its pledge of Scottish nuclear disarmament, the UK Government has repeatedly stressed that it has no plans to move Trident from Faslane and that it has not considered options for moving it. Some may consider this arrogant, shor... more »
Japanese submarine purchase would be historic and controversial
[image: Soryu class SSK]Australia’s move towards buying up to 12 Japanese Soryu submarines represents a historic and deeply controversial shift in national defence and military acquisition policy. If, as seems increasingly likely, political and industry leaders in Tokyo and Canberra can agree on terms, the Japanese submarines would be Australia’s first major strategic defence procurement from an Asian power and would significantly boost the country’s regional maritime power. The purchase stands squarely at the crossroads of government foreign policy and naval defence strategy, defen... more »

Cambodian Rat Meat: A growing Export Market
*[image: Picture of rats being sold at the Cambodia-Vietnam border]* I find this rather interesting. If it did not pass a taste test, no market would ever develop. Yet it also proves something else. That this rodent and its many varieties can be generally collected easily enough and passed directly into the human food chain easily. This is promising as there are many situations in which the rasts could become actually welcomed. They can become our waste removal specialists in a well organized farming enterprise. Of course that means pest roofing infrastructure but tha... more »

This is attracting attention because the crystalline structure happens to be optimal for collecting light. thus a consistent twenty percent plus solar panel appears possible. Al Jazeera Does A Program On Origins of ISIS, Forgets To Mention Its Own Negative Role
The Al Jazeera media channel, especially its Arabic version, has for years stoked the fires of sectarianism and terrorism in the Middle East, above all in Iraq. One of the reasons why there was passive acceptance of ISIS in Sunni communities in Iraq when the terrorist group started taking over cities in a rapid fashion is because Al Jazeera and other politically-driven media channels had spread propaganda against the Iraqi government for several years. Alienated Sunnis were ripe for the taking in Iraq because they had been brainwashed by Al Jazeera. The channel continuously frame... more »

Kerry has been touring the Middle East to build support for President Barack Obama's plan, announced on Wednesday, to strike both sides of the Syrian-Iraqi frontier to defeat Islamic State Sunni fighters that control swathes of both countries. *Read mor...more »

Meet The Republican Wing Of The Democratic Party-- Still Undermining The Affordable Care Act
Far right extremist and anti-health care fanatic Bill Cassidy (R-LA) is running for Mary Landrieu's Senate seat. Yesterday his bill to allow substandard health insurance policies to be sold on the open market-- even if they are just scams that cheat consumers-- passed the Republican-controlled House 247-167. Every single Republican-- including the fake moderates-- voted for it… and they were joined by the usual suspects from the Democratic side of the Chamber. 25 Blue Dogs and New Dems from the Republican wing of the Democratic Party crossed the aisle and voted with the GOP. Is President Obama Correct When He Touts Yemen And Somalia As Successful U.S. Counter-terrorism Campaigns?
*Touting Yemen, Somalia As Success Stories, Obama Sets Low Bar For Iraq -- Michael Pizzi, Al Jazeera* The US trumpeted its success in fighting Al-Qaeda affiliates in those nations, but eliminating them proved impossible As he laid out his plan to “degrade and ultimately destroy” the Islamic State insurgency, President Barack Obama told the nation Wednesday night that he planned to pursue the extremists who have seized much of Syria and Iraq just as the U.S. has done “successfully” in Yemen and Somalia. For those familiar with the ongoing collapse of those two states, Obama set a ... more »

EU And The U.S. Impose New Russian Sanctions. Russia Responds
*EU, U.S. Impose New Economic Sanctions On Russia Over Ukraine -- Globe and Mail/Reuters* The European Union and United States enacted a new round of sanctions against Russia on Friday over its role in Ukraine, including restrictions on financing for some Russian state-owned companies and asset freezes on leading Russian politicians. The EU and the U.S. government have been stepping up pressure on Moscow after its annexation of Crimea in March and what the West sees as an effort since then to further destabilise Ukraine by backing pro-Russian separatists in the east with troops a... more »

My choice of vocations over the past 32 years has involved logic to one degree or another as it related to computer hardware, computer software or the Internet and the web. Part of the reason this field attracted me was that after being in high school during the Vietnam Era I had come to very depressing conclusion the world was seriously fucked up. More of that Movie Idea
Part I, II, III It just occurred to me; the heroine is going to be assaulted by a team of cops, including the lead villain, and then the big baddie is going to depart, to bust other heads, and that's when she's going to continue fighting and that's when she's rescued by the mentor-figure. I decided I'd have him say that one reason why he came to help her was because he admired that she continued fighting. Because (as it turns out) he is a fighter. So, why not make explicit her reasons for continuing to struggle? So then I thought that while she's recovering from the initial beatin...more »

*What U.S. Airstrikes Look Like In Iraq, Mapped By Region -- Washington Post* As the United States’ air war in Iraq moves into its second month, there are a lot of ways to crunch the data that has been released. One is to track what has been hit. Another, depicted above, is to pay attention to where the bombs and missiles have been landing. Sacred Economics?
[image: Garden of Earth] By American Kabuki Perhaps its my religious upbringing but I really cringe when the mundane is sacralized. Things, rituals, words, dates on a calendar, places, even foods, are often called sacred (or their prohibited inverses profane) to evoke awe and separation and unquestioning acceptance of ideas. This video brings out some very good points, but I am of the feeling this new kind of economics is not fully fleshed out yet. PRISONER SWAP
Self-defense forces in E. Ukraine have exchanged a batch of prisoners with the Ukrainian army in a move that was stipulated as one of the key issues of the Minsk ceasefire agreement reached between the two sides last week. Many believe that the ceasefire is being used by Kiev to resupply and reposition their troops who lately had been suffering severe losses on the battlefield in eastern Ukraine. Various NATO countries have been shipping weapons to Kiev's army in recent days. No doubt that this is a US-NATO proxy war against Russia.

Shocker: Comparing deaths from medical drugs, vitamins, all US wars

The abstinence rate for study participants was 80 percent after six months, substantially higher than typical success rates in smoking cessation trials, says Matthew W. Threat of Job Loss Increases Compliance to Vaccines: Study
Heather Callaghan As it turns out, according to a new "study," hospitals can greatly improve their flu vaccination rate among health care workers by using a mandatory employee vaccination policy. This is according to a Henry Ford Health System study, funded by Henry Ford Health System and citing the "data" from Henry Ford Health System. The upper echelon of Henry Ford, acting under their created task force, is attempting to pass off a "*duh!*" observation of authorities using power over subordinates as a true-blue health study. Yet, nowhere in the study is there any proof of redu... more »

President Obama came on national media this week and said ISIS terrorists in eastern Syria and western Iraq “will find no safe haven,” and he wants to “ultimately destroy ISIL.” Of course, Secretary of State John Kerry said it really was not a war but a “significant counter-terror operation.” To that I say horse hooey! As well when the huge comet impacted Earth around 12900 BP it filled the atmosphere with carbon dust which acts as a marker for the Pleistocene nonconformity. Neanderthals and Humans Interacted for Thousands of Years
The idea that the Neanderthals went extinct is actually a serious error. They never did at all and their presence in our genome fully confirms just that. Mining ‘Tsunami’ Set to Take Africa by Storm?

He pinned my arm above my head and my knee in the crook of his arm and covered my mouth with his right hand and looked at me and said, 'You will not make a noise.'* This week a friend pointed me to a twitter hashtag, #WhyIStayed, that illustrates why women stay in abusive relationships. The arguments on it, many of which are pretty universal, work for men who stay in abusive relationships too. You know the old saw about how if men could get p... more »

*Some amusing non-news about ozone* Here it is, right from the horse's mouth, the horse being the summary in the official WMO report which is giving a lot of Greenies erections at the moment. Im my usual pesky way I went back to the original science rather than accepting journalistic spin about it. Why Is Turkey Refusing To Support President Obama's Strategy Against The Islamic State
*BBC* *Turkey Joins The Coalition Of The Unwilling -- Thomas Seibert, Daily Beast* With ISIS on its doorstep, the Turkish government balks at support for Obama’s strategy. ISTANBUL, Turkey – A diplomatic crisis looms. Turkey, a key U.S. ally and the only NATO member that borders areas controlled by ISIS jihadists in Syria and Iraq, is in a prime location to hit the extremists next door. But it prefers not to. Chet Raymo, “The Joy of Unbelief”

Wood doesn't mention, as I recall, the play on the title of The Joy of Sex, but apparently Levine's book has something of the same theme: You'll have more fun in life if you shed your theological inhibitions and let it all hang out. "They Have To Learn It..."
"It is good to be solitary, for solitude is difficult; that something is difficult must be a reason the more for us to do it. To love is good, too: love being difficult. For one human being to love another: that is perhaps the most difficult of all the tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation. For this reason young people, who are beginners at everything, cannot yet know love: they have to learn it. With their whole being, with all their forces, gathered close about their lonely, timid, upward-beating heart, they must learn t... more »

Think again, or at least lay down until the feeling passes. Will President Obama's Strategy To Combat The Islamic State Work?
*Will Obama's Anti-IS Strategy Work? -- Jonathan Marcus BBC * US President Barack Obama was clear. Mr Obama is calling for concerted action: a wide array of countries have already joined the struggle against IS. Indeed, the Islamic State threat has already begun to break down some of the region's long-standing divisions, with Iran and Saudi Arabia - standard-bearers of the Shia and Sun... more »
