9:01am MDSTAn aid program, a crushing crowd, a dead baby
I had a blog post mostly done about the Bonos 10,000 progam, a Honduran
government plan that is supposed to give $500 a year to the poorest
families.
Then I read about Santos Pineda and his wife Aida Fajardo, and their
four-day-old baby. The little girl died in a hugely overcrowded room where
the family had waited in a disorganized crowd for two hours to get the
Bono. She apparently suffocated in her mother’s arms in the crush of people.
The baby could have died anywhere, of course. She had spent three days in
the hospital in an incubator after an early C-section delivery and just

Grand Bargain Bait & Switch
When is a Grand Bargain not a Grand Bargain?
When the movers and shakers of the Beltway realize that "Grand Bargain"

NSA listens to World Leaders

is Trudeau being briefed on Harper's?

Don't Forget About Religious Discrimination When Throwing Your Office Halloween Party
Personally, I love Halloween. Adore it. I have zombies in my courtyard to
scare the kiddies, and a graveyard in front of the house with various and

celebrate it. However, there are some religions that ban celebrating
Halloween altogether, and some people who have sincerely held beliefs
against it.
Halloween is now a pretty secular holiday, but its origins are in the Catholic
religion. The Catholic holiday, All Hallow's Eve, is the night before All

The mathematics of Australia’s emissions are not terribly complicated. To

would require a rate of decarbonisation of the Australian economy (measured
as a reduction in the amount of carbon dioxide emissions per A$1000 of GDP)
of greater than 5% per year from 2013 to 2020. This is consistent with my

Default set aside without consideration of merits
As a general rule, one of the factors to be considered in setting aside a
default is the merit of the claim, appeal, application etc against which
default is made. In an interesting chambers decision this week in the Court

brief and the cause of the default technical, a consideration of the merits
was unnecessary and default would be set aside directly. The decision is,

Greece news for October 24 , 2013..... No debt relief for Greece until May 2014 decrees EU Commissioner Rehn ! With Greece's debt now a staggering 169 percent of GDP , is Greece about to hit the spin cycle of bailout ( or bail - in ) mania ? Prime Minister gets the cold shoulder from German Prime Minister Merkel - referred to the Troika to talk about next new measures to satisfy Greece's creditors - seems like quite a different talk Merkel had with Samaras as compared with the Cypriot President ! Meanwhile , Greek kiss ass efforts continue - layoffs to rise from 5 to 10 percent for group layoffs ? Property sales finally going through by the State Privatization fund TAIPED ? Cypriot Central Banker comes under more fire from his fellow Cypriots ! Meanwhile the stock market band plays on despite Greek Banks falling in value...........

Half of nation's foreclosed homes still occupied

* *Its quite amazing this nonsense still goes on almost 5 years after 2008,
banks who had no real money at risk of their own, insured against mortgage
failures and collected it (and in many cases insured with 4 or 5 different
insurance companies - which is insurance fraud - remember AIG insured debt
against loss), then are able to foreclose on homes for which they own
absolutely no title...violating all the laws that define what a mortgage is

Illusory Failure
This year, my son’s art teacher started every student out with an F. This
grade remains unchanged until all their assignments are turned in. This is
supposed to be motivating. Each student spends the majority of the school
year with a failing grade, which sets off a string of emails and phone
calls to anxious parents, reminding everyone involved, on an almost daily
basis, of the child’s impending “failure”. Rather than working to create
an inspired piece of art, the kids are instead merely working to avoid
flunking.
You were never shown how to do this simply. Like this... more »
ANDREW BOLT: THE QUINTESSENTIAL AUSTRALIAN RACIST
In a recent interview with Australia’s newly elected Prime Minister, Tony

well-known racism when the discussion turned to Australia’s indigenous

*AB: I assume you believe all Australians should be treated equally on the
grounds of race and ethnic origin.*
*PM: Yes.*
*AB: Why do you then want the Constitution rewritten so that some
Australians are given different status on the grounds of their racial
ancestry?*

Awaiting Greatness
Wit's End - 17 hours ago
By now there is general agreement among climate scientists that, awkward as
it seems, global warming has been in "pause" mode for the last decade. It
is believed the expected warming is going into the deep oceans, and also
has been shielded by aerosols. Yet in that same decade, the death of trees
has vastly accelerated. Visibly damaged foliage on all plant species,
including annuals being watered in pots, is ubiquitous and worsening every
year. Already now, in early August, leaves flutter like yellow confetti on
the drive to Wit's End. Aren't leaves supposed to change to brillia... more »
As heard on Fox: They’re giving us our old Hayes back!
*THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2013*
*Overheard as the analysts cheered:* Conservative voters hear a lot of
prime bullroar on Fox. Liberals should be looking for ways to *tell* them
they’re being conned.
For that reason, the analysts sent up a long, lusty cheer last week. Chris
Hayes was talking to Ben Domenech about the debt limit nonsense.
Along the way, Hayes described the way the world works—and he displayed
some human feeling. When he made these remarks, the analysts loudly cheered:

37% of growth in output, post-crash that figure has risen to 48% (leaving

Those at the top of the social scale have faired the best. According to the

THE FUKUSHIMA NUCLEAR MESS

support for Kaku's call for TEPCO to be taken off the case and have an

apparently no current nominee (to replace Regina Benjamin, who as far as I
know mostly stayed out of trouble)...yes, that's a three-month vacancy with
no replacement named. I suppose one way to avoid controversy is to avoid
nominating anyone, but still...surgeon generals used to be front-and-center

In her widely praised book, The Smartest Kids in the World, she creates
interesting portraits of three American exchange students. Her portrait of

Ripley is good at human interest. But she’s terrible at the nuts and bolts

Meet Eloise Reyes, The Progressive Candidate Running For Congress In The Inland Empire
This week the Blue America team met with Colton attorney Eloise Gomez Reyes
who's running for Congress in California’s 31st District. This is the only
deep blue district in America with a Republican incumbent. The reason
right-wing extremist (and carpetbagger) Gary Miller won last year is
because the new jungle primary functioned badly and resulted in the two top
vote getters both being Republicans. So while 57% of the voters were
casting their ballots for President Obama in the general election, there
was no Democrat on the congressional ballot. The weak candidate the DCCC
