I don't care anymore what happens. This doesn't mean I'm giving up the

And Now, Humorous Credit-Taking

I watched a truly great politician moment: "Gang of 14" Senators

I realize that sounds quite delusional to many people, particularly here in

Coates began his post as shown below. As a general matter, we agree with

Yesterday I heard Peter King (R-NY) and Charlie Dent (R-PA) each go on CNN

Creating the Conditions and Narrative for a FAILED Geneva II
Judging by the contents of recent NATO news outlet reports it appears a
story line, regarding Syria, is being created. The characters are Saudi
Arabia. Turkey. The US. But, not Israel. Although the Israeli connections
and potential gains in the destruction of Syria are plentiful and
acknowledged. Israel seems to be lacking from this fable? Which should not
really come as a surprise to anyone who is aware of the media obeisance to

Are Tablets Becoming Cheap Ticket Commodity Items?
We are starting to see a real convergence in the mobile device market.
Tablets are shrinking with 7 inch now becoming a norm and smartphones are
growing with 5.5 inch being just the starting point. We are also seeing
tablets starting to become real throwaway commodities with prices now
falling to under £100 and the big retailers starting to own brand and go
after the market.
The challenge for many tablets is how they can now maintain a high price
ticket yet offer little extra value over their cheap and cheerful
counterparts? They have the same operating system, same apps and let’s... more »

Counting Hard
Some foolish liberals, back in 2009-2010, used to blame Barack Obama for
things when the actual problem (from their perspective) was that they just
didn't have the votes in the Senate. But, to be fair, that was somewhat
complicated: Democrats had a large majority, and I can definitely
understand the frustration when that large party majority didn't actually
work out to a policy majority (in some cases a supermajority, but often
just any regular majority) for some specific liberal policies.
So if I called them out on it then, I should probably make note of this utter

It actually began on Sunday the 14th. Nixon met with Senate Armed Services

suggested a plan in which the White House would provide transcripts, and
Stennis would listen to the actual tapes to verify the accuracy of the

House CR/Debt Limit BIll Pulled
The news this evening is that John Boehner had to pull the bill Republicans
had been scrambling to put together all day.
My general sense is that it's progress. If a GOP CR/debt limit bill passes

with Democrats insisting that a deal amounts to paying a ransom, and so
there's no deal to be had.
However, with House Republicans in disarray, the only game in town is the
Reid/McConnell "deal," which is really just a GOP surrender with a minor

Some people have the habit or disease of attaching their particular
advocacies to their personalities. They have intertwined the issue or

The popular take on the current debt ceiling stand-off is that the Tea

The segment concerned the debt ceiling crisis. It involved an interview

As a reward, we got a treat right in her second segment. As other hosts on
her channel had done, Maddow engaged in a race-baiting nut-pick concerning
the guy with two flags. Here's the background:
Helped along by Mike Lee and Ted Cruz, tea party folk had staged a protest

The Brilliant "Leave Town" Option?
So far today, over in no-we're- not-completely-bonkers House news, the
House Republicans prepared a debt limit/funding bill, took it to a
conference meeting, sang "Amazing Grace" (presumably more of a Diane
Chambers version than you would find in the House Democrats' caucus, no?),
found out they didn't have the votes, and then threatened to pass something
and then leave town -- so the Senate and Barack Obama would have to choose
to go along or go passed the Thursday-ish deadline.
I'll be writing more about this later, but it sounds to me like a brilliant
Boehner strategy! After all,... more »

Boehner And McConnell Have Primary Challenges-- Why Not Steny Hoyer, Steve Israel And Debbie Wasserman Schultz?
When I was growing up, my grandfather always told me to never trust the
Democratic Party. "They're not as bad as the Republicans." he always said,
"but they're bad in their own way. They make believe they stand up for the
working class, but they're just out for themselves." Even back then, it was
clear the party was dominated by careerists. The Republicans complain about
their party in the same way. So it probably surprised no one that most
Americans-- across the board-- think we need another political party. Gallup
confirmed it this week.

Amendment of information or indictment on appeal only with great caution
R. v. Brownson, 2013 ONCA 619:

683(1) For the purposes of an appeal under this Part, the court of appeal

Diane Ravitch's Balanced Appraisal of Charters
Diane Ravitch, in *Reign of Error*, argues that school reform heedlessly
replaced the old-fashioned geographically-based system of public education
with a competitive market-based system that includes traditional public

The roots of this movement, she argues, are “fundamentally libertarian”
but, today, it includes reformers who see the education system as obsolete.
