UV/IR connection: link between God and His inverse
Whether some people like it or not, science has demonstrated that
reductionism works. The laws governing the evolution of increasingly
complex – and, typically, geometrically larger – objects (laws that are
increasingly vague, riddled with uncertainties, errors, and exceptions) may
be reduced to the laws describing ever smaller and ever more elementary
building blocks (i.e. to laws that are increasingly more fundamental,
accurate, and universal).
In fact, one may approximately list the disciplines of science in a

The whole notion of freedom can exist only in the contrast of slavery. Without
slavery, freedom would not be necessary. This is the duality in which

The slavery system we’ve been in is brilliant; so subtle as to be

Thoughts on Christianity and religion
*"The Jew is not content to dechristianize, he Judaizes; he destroys
Christian beliefs; he provokes religious indifference, but he also imposes
on those whose faith he destroys, his own concept of the world, of
morality, and of human life; he labors at the age-old task - the
destruction of the religion of Christ."*

Nobody Has Your Back Any Longer
If you have any faith in government you're suffering from an affliction, a
potentially dangerous malaise.
Writing in this month's *Vanity Fair*, Todd Purdom addresses the enormous
changes underway, some of them quite possibly
civilization ending, none of which our leaders seem to take seriously.
Purdom writes of his United States but most of his observations also ring
true for federal and provincial politics here in Canada.

Sent through by our roving Asian correspondent Suzuki Samurai is this piece
on Indonesia that appeared in The Diplomat:
Indonesia has made a remarkable comeback from being Southeast Asia’s
economic basket case in 1998 to an emerging market whose economy has been
growing annually at more than 5 percent for several years.
Yay!
Yet, Indonesia’s economic growth is neither sustainable nor inclusive.

An inconvenient fact is that Indonesia’s economic growth is mainly driven
by a commodity boom fuelled by China’s appetite for raw materials and

NEOCONS THINK THE LEFT SHOULD APOLOGISE TO BUSH AND CHENEY OVER TORTURE AND ASSASSINATIONS
Neocon writer Jonathan Tobin, blogging in *Commentary* today, seems to
think that everyone on the Left – who, according to Tobin, includes
President Obama – should apologise to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney for
accusing them of ‘being immoral lawbreakers’ over torture and targeted
assassinations in the light of President Obama’s increased use of such
practices.
The reality is that most folk on the Left do not regard Obama as being
‘Left’ but, rather, just not as far to the Right as the Republicans and
their neoconservative supporters who many on the Left regard more as
fascists.

Wasting the SOTU Response
I put something over at PostPartisan this afternoon saying that Marco Rubio
is nuts to give the State of Union response, which he'll apparently be
doing this year. It's a no-win, for lots of reasons.
But it isn't no-win for everyone. There is one group of politicians who
seem to have thrived after giving a SOTU response, although we haven't been
getting many of them lately: obscure Members of the House of
Representatives.
Usually SOTU responses are either solo slots or two politicians give it.

Yet again another Novopay pay round has been labelled a shocker, as “the

not paid or underpaid by Novopay yesterday.”
As you might have noticed, a ministerial inquiry is about to be established

Perhaps the first question to be asked is ‘*why is such a system is even

Mainzeal is a symptom of a larger problem
When a large builder like Mainzeal falls over it causes a bigger splash
than all the other smaller builders that have quietly retired, gone under,

same.
Questioners have been asking this morning how it could happen just when
rebuilding in Christchurch is just about to start? How it could happen
when Auckland has a serious housing affordability problem, and a severe
shortage of starter homes.
Let me venture a guess.
This is partly due to some poor management, as Brian Gaynor and others have
