Why Don't We Have A Doctor Leading The Charge Against Ebola?
The ugly faces of the Texas Ebola problem
Republicans are still trying to make Ebola a campaign issue.
Yesterday we saw how Republicans have used fear mongering to imply
Democratic women candidates are not up to the job of fighting Ebola (or
ISIS)-- despite the courageous work women, from nurses to CIA agents, are
actually doing on the front lines in both battles. Now Republican lawmakers
have been caterwauling that Obama appointed a bureaucrat as Ebola Czar
instead of a doctor, seemingly unaware-- or worse, deceitful-- that every
single Republican-- including fake moderates like Sus... more »
Guest Post - Are You Up on Your R-Value?
A general rule of thumb for making home an energy efficient place is,
simply put, to keep from letting said energy go to waste. A great way to do
this? Insulate thoroughly from top to bottom.
There is a lot of technical information and specific terminology to take
into account when insulating, so a home-insulation project can range
anywhere from a complete DIY to something better left for a professional
installer, but one key player you’ll want to get to know is R-value.
R-value is a measure of resistance (R) against heat transfer, or how well

details emerge, the plan appears increasingly haphazard.
Troops preparing for deployment to the Ebola front will be given only a

Marx on Alienation
Forgive the 19th century language:
What then constitutes the alienation of labour?
First, the fact that labour is *external* to the worker, i.e., it does not
belong to his intrinsic nature; that in his work, therefore, he does not
affirm himself but denies himself, does not feel content but unhappy, does
not develop freely his physical and mental energy but mortifies his body
and ruins his mind. The worker therefore only feels himself outside his
work, and in his work feels outside himself. He feels at home when he is
not working, and when he is working he does not feel at home. /hi... more »

Next Step in Hungary's March Back to Dark and Brown Political Legacy: Official Historical Revisionism to Hide Pro-nazi Past
This was brought to my attention by my friend and colleague at the
University of Gothenburg, distinguished political science professor, Bo

its Soviet satelite past and joining the EU as a liberal democracy, Hungary

nationalist, anti-liberal and anti-democratic direction. Led by Prime

'Earlier this month, Canada announced plans to join the US-led campaign of

Might the lack of official confirmation be because these Islamist terrorist

what do you think of the respect for all colors in the US? Do you agree
that a systematic racism still exists in the United States? *
While there is undoubtedly widespread systematic racism in the US today,
there is also an economic factor behind the recent protests of police
shootings in Missouri. The US economy no longer provides good jobs for

Are domestically built submarines necessary?
[image: Hai Lung (Zwaardvis) class SSK]For Taiwan, the question whether to
build conventional submarines or not is still a problem, though both the
Kuomintang (KMT) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) are in
agreement that they will have to be built in a local shipyard to replace
its aging fleet of four.
The problem is that Taiwan needs help from overseas to make its own
diesel-electric submarines. The only source of help for Taiwan may be the
United States, who seem more reluctant than ever to lend a hand.
It is not so difficult to build a small conventional submarine, but i... more »

Presidents Come And Go-- But The CIA Bureaucracy And Its Priorites Are Timeless
Earlier this evening Ken did a proper Ben Bradlee remembrance. Chris Hayes
did one for MSNBC viewers (above) last night right after we heard about
Bradlee's passing. I was living overseas for the entire Nixon era--
sometimes in places where American news was scarce (like Afghanistan, India
and Ceylon) and sometimes where it was less scarce (like in Holland and
Finland) but Bradlee during the Watergate scandal was such a towering
figure of journalism that even I heard of him. He was part of the reason
Americans held the media in such high esteem relative to other
institutions. Ken... more »
