I wrote one over at Plum Line yesterday about a Media Matters push to get
people to lobby the broadcast networks to run more stories about climate.
My argument was that it's unlikely that such an effort would be successful,
and that if the goal was more attention to climate, the more likely way to
get results would be for activists to target politicians, and especially

Last weekend winter still clung to the northwest corner of High Point State
Park, where the Appalachian Trail veers recklessly into the famously toxic
wasteland that is New Jersey. It's a long trip from Wit's End, but I
enjoyed it, because I can avoid traffic almost the entire journey taking
isolated back country roads. A favorite distraction in these days of
pre-ecopocalyptic dread, for me, is trespassing on abandoned farms, and in
this rural area there is no lack of them. It serves no purpose to archive

purport to show Al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) fighters in Anbar who are involved
in fighting in Syria. It has been widely reported that Islamists like AQI

The BBC insists it receives as many complaints about pro-Israel bias as
anti. I found that claim hard to believe because I couldn’t understand what
the haters of Israel have to complain about.

A day in the life
After coffee and breakfast, Risa lets the poultry out, checks their food
and water, collects duck eggs, and waters the flats in the "greenhouse"
(potting shed with glass south wall).
Besides the potting bench in the greenhouse, she keeps a "spring bench" on

International steel magnate Samancor is charged with putting profits before
workers' rights. Former employees at their Johannesburg, South Africa plant
are dying from manganese poisoning.
There is growing concern that many workers at Bath Iron Works (BIW) in
Maine are exposed to manganese poisoning as they cut steel to make Navy
