The Witch Head reflection nebula (IC2118), abo...The Witch Head reflection nebula (IC2118), about 1000 light years from earth, is associated with the bright star Rigel in the constellation Orion. The nebula glows primarily by light reflected from Rigel, located just outside the top right corner of the image. Fine dust in the nebula reflects the light. The blue color is caused not only by Rigel's blue color but because the dust grains reflect blue light more efficiently than red. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

*“All Night, In The Dark”* by Chet Raymo “Why do we so admire the poetry of Mary Oliver? She is not the most technically proficient poet around, and there is a disquieting sameness to her work. But we come back to her again and again. My volumes of Oliver's collected poems are the most dog-eared of any on my shelf. I think it is something about the way Oliver is able to get out of her body and into the skin of a hummingbird, a swan, a snake, or a black bear. She is a shape-shifter, a shaman. Financial Media Outlets pull Stories regarding Reuters Killing Soros

It is pretty telling how Marketwatch.com and other major financial websites felt they had to disable the comments and/or outright remove the freshly posted stories about the Reuters false death report of George "Schwartz" Soros. The epitaphs coming in were getting too embarrassing for the Soros media sycophants. I can keep this short and leave it to the imagination. For those of you who missed it before the story was removed, let's just say that the news of his death "being greatly exaggerated" wasn't met with much joy or relief by Marketwatch readers who often take the opportunit... more »

I had feared the 19-year old Dzhokhar would either be brought down by police or take his own life which might have left many questions unanswered. Now at least the authorities will have a slim chance to interrogate young Tsarnaev. Given that this appears to have been a political act, Tsarnaev may be willing to make a statement. Chicago was hit by a deluge, some say of apocalyptic proportions. One of those "storm of the century" events that now seem to occur a couple of times a year to welcome us to our planet's new climate state. The Chicago downpour was so intense it overwhelmed the city's storm and sanitary sewer systems. A large volume of sanitary sewer overflow was jettisoned into Lake Michigan. That's liquid poop by the way. Elsewhere Chicagoans were greeted by free sewer geysers. The event got locals coining new terms such as "upspout", "sewerspew" and "road barf".

Once More on "Is It a Filibuster?" (Hint: It Is)

This one might be a little redundant at this point, but everyone is pretty much focused on the manhunt in Boston right now, and I have nothing to say about that, so I might as well continue filibuster blogging. And besides, maybe this is still necessary -- because Kevin Drum is a smart guy, and if he's still a bit confused on this point, maybe lots of people are. So this comes from a post Drum wrote last night in which he said that the press should call what happened to Manchin-Toomey a filibuster, even though "Technically, however, it's not a filibuster, so reporting it as one isn't... more »

It Would Be Great To Get Allyson Schwartz Out Of Congress, But Is She The Best Pennsylvania Democrats Can Come Up With For Governor?

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 1 day ago
John Hanger Allyson Schwartz is a champion of women's rights. Other than that, though, hers is a profile in cowardice. Right-wingers call her a liberal-- which her miserable voting record shows she isn't-- and she moves to the right. She's exactly what is *not* needed in the already dysfunctional political system. A vice chair of the corrupt, Big Business-owned New Dems,... more »

I check the new-book shelves in the college library for anything of interest. I do a modest amount of surfing science sources on the internet. Yet I fall farther and farther behind. The store of reliable human knowledge accumulates exponentially faster than my ability to assimilate. So I mostly tend my bailiwick. My own little garden of verses. The wispy bits of universe that cling to my life like an aura of places been, things seen, syllables he... more »

Again, with much of the news still focused in on the false flag attack in Boston Massachusetts, there is plenty happening elsewhere in the world... There is the continuing economic mess in Europe, and even the threat of war against North Korea as prime examples... And of course we cannot forget about the criminal state of Israel and its continuing sabre rattling campaign against the innocent and peaceful nation of Iran. For this article, I want to present a very disturbing piece of news that comes from the Times Of Israel website, at www.timesofisrael.com, where the new US Defense S... more »
