Look at America’s grand strategy. Why do we believe this nonsense?

.
Threat inflation is the cornerstone of our grand strategy, and skillful fear-mongering a requirement for an aspiring US geopolitical expert (eg, news shows don’t want sound bites downplaying threats, no matter how microscopic the danger)

There is a difference, of course, between acknowledging problems and hyping them. The main reason I decided to Follow Desmedoma Despair was not self flagellation but seeing what would come up in line with a promoted interest in health of trees. Knowing borer infestation in western forests was complemented on the east coast by larch die-off meant it should have been a topic to watch. And there is the insanity of GM eucalyptus planting in southeastern U.S. Instead I have been inundated by climate alarmism - which continues even in these links.

The Dying of the Trees

If you read newspapers or magazines looking for information about forests, what do you find? You find stories about the destruction of rain forests in South America and about the logging battle raging in the Pacific Northwest over the spotted owl. Except for these two issues, forest problems don't make the news. But forest problems are pervasive, and are as important. To put it bluntly, trees are sick and dying everywhere in the United States.  There are many causes of tree death, just as there are many causes of toxic poisoning. To fix these problems, whether tree deaths or toxics, will require us first and foremost to study and emulate nature, to learn to live within natural limits, and to respect the right of non-human species to inhabit the planet.

Dying Trees Set Stage For Erosion And Water Loss

New research concludes that a one-two punch of drought and mountain pine beetle attacks are the primary forces that have killed more than 2.5 million acres of pinyon pine and juniper trees in the American Southwest during the past 15 years, setting the stage for further ecological disruption.
The widespread dieback of these tree species is a special concern, scientists say, because they are some of the last trees that can hold together a fragile ecosystem, nourish other plant and animal species, and prevent serious soil erosion.

ALERT – FIRE HAZARDS:  THE DEAD & DYING TREES IN MENDOCINO COUNTY
“…In the past I have seen localized die-off of plant communities from a myriad of sources, and there tends to be a trend toward one to several problems at a time, and it varies year to year. But I have never seen the present condition of wide spread decline in almost all special, in all areas, from a wide assortment of insects, fungus, molds, mildews, bacteria and virus. I have seen areas where every tree and shrub in a drainage area has some form of health problem…”
Pictures of dead and dying trees have been pouring in from many states including Arizona, California, Nevada, Washington, Alaska and Virginia. It is time to take action now. Internet research under “tree decline, type of tree, and tree death, by county and state, will reveal tremendous numbers of trees in decline or dead, not only in the United States but around the world.
IT IS TIME TO FIND OUT WHY OUR TREES ARE STRESSED AND UNABLE TO RESIST PESTS AND PATHOGENS! CONTACT YOUR LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL REPRESENTATIVES. ASK THEM TO AUTHORIZE AIR, TREE, WATER, AND SOIL TESTING. We need answers to the questions – not just be told to wait, watch our trees die and then be cut or burned down by forest fires.

Mendocino County trees and shrubs are also showing the same impacts as both Lake and Sonoma counties in California. The impacts have been documented since 2002, both in pictures and videotape showing the massive changes that have taken place in Northern California. Redding, California areas are showing declining Douglas Fir and Oak (without Sudden Oak Death Syndrome), tree health. These impacts are accelerating faster and can be noted in the number of trees showing symptoms, dead trees and the number of trees that have fallen down under unusual circumstances. (Unusual clumping and blow down of branches and trees are becoming more common.)
Many California Redwood Trees across wide areas are dying or showing signs of severe stress. Greg Guisti, the University of California forest advisor for Mendocino County noted in a Ukiah Daily Journal Article dated May 8, 2002: “…There are also many redwood trees in town that are showing signs of widespread disease…” The questions remain unanswered: Why?

Dead and dying trees threaten Michigan homes and rural communities

Tree mortality from increased bark beetle activity poses an ever-increasing risk of wildfire loss to homes and communities in rural areas.

U.S. Forest Service analysis indicate current outbreaks and resulting tree mortality related to bark beetle action are the largest in recorded history

Why Are My Trees Dying? And What Can I Do About It?

The good news is that many of the activities needed to improve tree health, such as removal of competing vegetation, also help reduce the fire hazard on your property. Fire hazard reduction is forest health improvement!

U.S. Trees Dying at Alarming Rate

Over the course of thirty years, scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service and various academic institutions counted trees in 76 plots, each the size of two football fields, in forests across six western states and British Columbia. When they looked at the data last year, they found that mortality rates had increased significantly in almost every plot, with the rate doubling over periods ranging from 17 years to 29 years. Crucially, the increasing deaths were not matched by higher rates of "recruitment" — the technical term for a forest's birthrate.
Nathan Stephenson, a Research Ecologist for the USGS and one of the study's authors, said the scope of the research revealed trends that would otherwise have gone unnoticed. "The changes have been subtle. If you were walking around these forests you'd think everything was fine
( Sounds more like lack of new growth - sterility problems )

It would appear that there is a complex chaotic system in play that is resulting in the deforestation of the Earth. Following is an abstract from a study started in 2001 and continuing through the present.
