West 'to blame' for Syria's destruction, says top diplomat
Syria is being destroyed ‘bit by bit’, a top diplomat has said.
The fault for its destruction lies with president Bashar Assad’s government
and the western-backed opposition forces, the joint UN-Arab League envoy
Lakhdar Brahimi said.
Speaking at the UN he said: ‘Objectively, they are co-operating to destroy
Syria. Syria is being destroyed bit by bit.
‘And in destroying Syria, the region is being pushed into a situation that
is extremely bad, and extremely important for the entire world.’

three library issues, part 1: the all-digital library
An
enormous number of library-related stories cross my path, either

A San Antonio, Texas public library will become the first in the US (and

Much has been written about the pros and cons of digital books, and

Philip Klass Explains it All... Loring AFB
I hate to keep picking on Philip Klass, but I’ve just stumbled on another
of his solutions and thought we might look at it. Back in 1975, at Loring
Air Force Base in Maine, Sergeant Steven Eichner, was working with Sergeant
R. Jones, when Jones saw a red and orange object over the flight line. To
both of them the object looked like a “stretched out football” that hovered
and then seemed to disappear as the lights went out. It reappeared over the
north end of the runway, moving in what they described as “jerky motions.”
They began to give chase, maybe just get closer for a better loo... more »

Home Abortion: Quick and Cheap
Fetus fetishists really really hate medical abortion.
First, it's done very early -- up to 9 weeks -- so women can act quickly
and get it over with.
It's private. One doesn't necessarily have to go to a special clinic. Any
doctor can prescribe the pills. One can even buy them over the Internet to
get around idiotic laws.
It's safe and effective.
And it's cheaper than surgical abortion, but still quite a lot of dough to
find on short notice.
For all those reasons, zygote zealot are pushing hard to demonize and/or

decision was "completely incomprehensible" and based on questionable

An Honest Coca-Cola Obesity Commercial

If Coca-Cola were serious about addressing public health and making *real*changes to fix the obesity issue, the company would:
- Stop targeting kids with advertisements and stop heavily influencing
young children’s minds.
- Stop fighting and keeping quite clear research linking sugary
beverages to illness and disease.
- Stop targeting minorities and pushing products in developing countries
where obesity rates are escalating.
- Create a product that is actually healthful and beneficial and push
that over it’s health-destroying products.

Ministers to blame for high fuel prices, says competition watchdog
MPs and motoring groups have reacted furiously after the Office of Fair

The OFT said there is “no evidence” that high petrol and diesel prices in
the UK are caused bad behaviour in the industry.
It said that the petrol market is “working well” – despite consumers paying
near-record prices at the pumps.
The report said that pre-tax, “the UK has some of the cheapest road fuel

Evolving portrait of the electron
About 150 years ago, people began to do the experiments that would lead to
the discovery of the electron.
They would study the electrical conductivity of rarefied gases. Finally, in
1896, J.J. Thomson and his collaborators proved that the colorful fog
coming from the cathodes is composed of individual discrete corpuscles, the
electrons.
It just happened that within 10 years, electrons were seen by Henri

A group of Hillary Clinton supporters is launching a campaign to draft her

The group, “Ready for Hillary,” filed as a super-PAC with the Federal

virtue and value of equanimity is extolled and advocated by a number of

The world as a whole, and particularly the people of northern Africa, owe
