8:22 am MST"OFFICIALS" and their "OFFICIAL STORY"s are crumbling left and right because of the internet
What is an "OFFICIAL" and what is an "OFFICIAL STORY"? An OFFICIAL is a person connected to or a member of the government or mainstream media. An OFFICIAL STORY is a story the tell about an EVENT that is a game-changing event that affects the country...such as 911, the JFK/RFK/MLK/John Lennon shootings, the Sandy Hook/Batman/Sikh Temple shootings...and things like that, you get the picture. YOU aren't an "OFFICIAL". If you're in the 99%, you're not an OFFICIAL. And therefore, can't tell an "OFFICIAL STORY". It is implied, by OFFICIALS, that they know better than us and we should tr... more »
jimmy carter: we are calling on all leaders to challenge misogyny
Jimmy Carter: This view that women are somehow inferior to men is not restricted to one religion or belief. Women are prevented from playing a full and equal role in many faiths. Nor, tragically, does its influence stop at the walls of the church, mosque, synagogue or temple. This discrimination, unjustifiably attributed to a Higher Authority, has provided a reason or excuse for the deprivation of women's equal rights across the world for centuries. At its most repugnant, the belief that women must be subjugated to the wishes of men excuses slavery, violence, forced prostitution, ge... more »
'We don't do deals with terrorists': State Department REJECTS 'Battalion of Blood' gang offer to swap two U.S. hostages seized in Algeria for jailed extremists
The Obama administration has rejected an offer from militants to release convicted terrorists in exchange for US hostages being held in Algeria, as it is revealed Texas resident Frederick Buttaccio was killed in yesterday's bloody raid. The Associated Press reported this afternoon that Buttaccio died in the hostage standoff as survivors said militants strapped plastic explosives around their necks and described how foreign workers secretly invented disguises to escape their captors. School armed guard hired after Sandy Hook leaves his handgun in the bathroom just one week into new job
WNEM TV 5 Michigan education officials admit their newly hired armed security guard left his gun in a charter school bathroom, but they don't see any reason to make an issue out of it. U.S. government investment gives flu vaccines a shot in the arm
Fighting the flu may soon get easier. As early as next year, more modern and more effective vaccines will hit the market, thanks to investments by the U.S. government and pharmaceutical companies. And even bigger scientific advances are expected in the next decade, including a "universal" flu vaccine given every five to 10 years that would fight many strains of a virus, making annual shots all but obsolete. Experts say it could take eight to 10 more years of testing before a universal flu vaccine would be ready. Meanwhile, they expect advances that could still incrementally improve... more »

Cowardice, deceit and why Dave's not the only one in a fix over Europe
David Cameron’s big speech on Europe may have been postponed, but the dilemma facing all the main political parties — not just the Tories — will continue to intensify. Much of what the PM would have said yesterday had already leaked out and his prepared comments were clearly intended to address widespread public disgust over the EU. For Europe’s economy is sclerotic and failing, its governance is corrupt, and Brussels will have to remove yet more powers from member states if it is going to have a prayer of saving the euro. New Problem For Canadian Government Regarding New Polymer Money
CBC/CBC - On the right side of the new $20 bill is what some experts say is a Norway maple leaf, not a Canadian maple leaf via Yahoo!News Some botanists are shaking their heads at the new polymer bills because they say the money features a maple leaf from Norway, and not Canada, although that's not how the Bank of Canada sees it. The Norway maple came to North America in the 18th century, imported by a Philadelphia merchant and peddled as a garden adornment. But lately it has been turning up in all kinds of places, including the official logos of Wilfrid Laurier University in Water... more »

World's Beach Resorts Under Threat From Rising Ocean Levels
Beach at Cancun, Mexico. Photo courtesy: Cancun beach photo via Shutterstock Whether they're playgrounds for the rich and famous or havens for retirees, the world's best beach resorts may disappear despite efforts to protect them against sea level rise. That's the prediction of coastal expert Andrew Cooper, a professor at the University of Ulster in Ireland, who said that the usual way of replenishing a beach, by adding sand to it, will not keep up with the sea's rapid rise. "A key attractor in most of the world's examples of coastal resort cities has been the presence of an adjac... more »

Dingoes May Have Come to Australia From India
About 4,000 years ago, Australia was no longer connected to the mainland as it had been during the ice age. The immigrants thus crossed the ocean, arriving by boat and possibly carrying dingoes to the island continent. Photo courtesy: Gunter Senft/MPI for Psycholinguistics via LiveScience.com Indians migrating to Australia more than 4,000 years ago may have introduced dingoes to the island continent, along with novel stone tools and new ways to remove toxins from edible plants, researchers say. Apple as Superfood
The compelling take home here is that we should be eating three apples a day every day as a matter of course. I grew up doing just that rather curiously. In practice, the weight of evidence favoring apples and fresh produce of all kinds is completely compelling. Not so compelling is any argument supporting meat which leaves you short in terms of the full spectrum of complex nutrients in exchange for easy energy. As argued our original progenitors were tropical foragers who ate fruit continuously and everything else sporadically. Moving into less fruitful environs, we l... more »
Super Earthquake Hot Spots
It is worth remarking that both Sumatra and Northern Japan were ultimately surprises. This allows us to identify the rick of such a surprise. Other such risks as may still exist are remnant subsidence events left over from the Ice Age. That includes the Mid Atlantic Ridge and the Cuban Arc. The time frames there though are surely measured in thousands of years and have steadily lessened. Otherwise it is all about the ring of fire and the impact of the Indian sub plate on the Middle East. That effect also extends into the Mediterranean. There is still far too much cou... more »
Creature Stalking Dogs in Missouri Town
It is not small and easily cuts two inch deep slashes. More important though is two other key facts here. It kills and does not eat. And it is hanging around to challenge dogs. This is surely behavior conforming to the giant sloth which we have already investigated and described. All cats generally avoid contact and they do eat their victims. They also avoid dogs because they know that dogs will form a pack and bring a human hunter along to finish the job after they are cornered. That is why human contact with the wild in daytime is so slight. They know better. Thus we ca... more »
The Geological Relationship Between CO2 Concentrations and Sea Level
First off, it is important to understand the actual sequence. When the climate warms more CO2 is released into the atmosphere and the sea level rises. The geological evidence gives us many such cycles. We have no geological evidence of CO2 release from geological sources and any such should be identified in some way. What is true is that if our global heat content remains high, the ice will melt and more CO2 will leave the ocean and enter the atmosphere. The process can be expected top take centuries. However, it is much more likely that we will be seeing a reversal in...more »

A weapon of mass distraction
Submitted to the Christian Science Monitor, Jan. 18, 2013 I suspect that the common core standards’ elitist reading lists (sample items in “Are you as well-read as a 10th grader?” Jan. 17) are designed to get educators and the public arguing about what should be on the reading lists, rather than focusing on the far more important question of whether we should have common core standards and tests at all. There is no evidence that standards and tests improve school achievement. The huge sums of money budgeted for standards and for tests to enforce the standards should be used to protec... more »

More on the U.N. "death toll" in Syria
I wrote recently about the improbability of the U.N.'s claim that the Syrian death toll is 60,000.
