A man was shot dead on Monday in a fifth day of violence in Egypt that has
killed 50 people and prompted the Islamist president to declare a state of
emergency in an attempt to end a wave of unrest sweeping the Arab world's
biggest nation.
Emergency rule announced by President Mohamed Mursi on Sunday covers the
cities of Port Said, Ismailia and Suez. The army has already been deployed
in two of those cities and cabinet approved a measure to let soldiers

(The Guardian) – Villagers in the Solomon Islands have slaughtered up to
900 dolphins in the course of a dispute with a conservation group, Earth
Island Institute.
Accounts of the dispute vary. The islanders say the Berkeley-based
conservation group failed to pay them, as agreed, for stopping the

A teenager, who died after being stabbed in Pimlico, central London, has
been named as Hani Abou El-Kheir.
Officers were called to Lupus Street at 6.50pm on Sunday where they found a
16-year-old who had been stabbed. Witnesses heard him screaming for his
life.
The victim was taken to a south London hospital but died from his injuries
at 8.45pm.
Family friend Mahmoud Abosiad said: "He was a lovely boy. He did not
deserve to end up on a slab."

A dock master has rescued a six-month-old baby after his buggy was blown
into freezing cold waters by strong winds.
The infant, who was strapped in the buggy, was swept into the water as his
mother walked along Watchet Harbour, Somerset, at 8am on Sunday.
After hearing screams for help George Reeder, 63, initially thought a dog
had fallen in but was horrified to see the pushchair upturned in the water.
He dived in and pulled it to the wall, before a member of the public helped
attach a rope and hauled it to dry land - but not before the baby had spent

A teenager has died after being stabbed in Pimlico, central London on
Sunday, said police.
Officers were called to Lupus Street at 6.50pm where they found a youngster
who had been stabbed.
The victim is believed to be 16 but this has not been confirmed. He was
taken to a south London hospital but died from his injuries at 8.45pm.

that a living dynamic storage protocol could well make good sense and yes,
it can be stuffed into a living organism for safe keeping perhaps.

If you grew up with a roll of baling wire to hand as I did, you will
really appreciate this tool. It allows proper tension to be applied
consistently.
I personally depended on it for almost all temporary repairs or rigging of
any kind. Having an actual tool besides my hammer claw and pliers is
clearly welcome.
For the uninitiated, baling wire is strong yet soft enough to do almost
anything except stand up forever. It will rust out rather quickly if

It is still startling that the linkage should be so easily demonstrated.
There are plenty of indirect reasons to promote tree culture and we have
been out there cheer-leading. Yet to see a shift in statistics cleanly
related to the removal of trees is a little unexpected. I would have

been found exhausted and dehydrated after wandering in dense Australian
bushland.
Matthew Allen, 18, had lost half his body weight, was covered in leeches
and insect bites and was suffering from exposure-related injuries when he

President Barack Obama said he has been wrestling with the question whether
a U.S. military intervention in Syria's 22-month-old civil war would help
resolve the bloody conflict or make things worse.
In a pair of interviews, Obama responded to critics who say the United
States has not been involved enough in Syria, where thousands of people
have been killed and millions displaced according to U.N. officials.
Transcripts of both interviews were released on Sunday.

violence, declaring a limited state of emergency and suggesting more such

A barge carrying 80,000 gallons of oil hit a railroad bridge in Vicksburg,
Miss., on Sunday, spilling light crude into the Mississippi River and
closing the waterway for eight miles in each direction, the Coast Guard
said. A second barge was damaged.
Investigators did not know how much had spilled, but an oily sheen was
reported as far as three miles downriver of Vicksburg after the 1:12 a.m.
incident, said Lt. Ryan Gomez of the Coast Guard's office in Memphis, Tenn.

Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has declared a state of emergency in the
cities of Port Said, Suez and Ismalia after days of deadly unrest.
A daily curfew from 21:00 to 06:00 will be imposed for 30 days from Monday,
he said in a speech to the nation.
At least 33 people died over the weekend in Port Said, where a court
judgment sparked rioting.
