"How A Former General Lost His 'Political Virginity'"
This was a front page headline on The Huff Post yesterday.
Retired general Andrew Leslie might have expected the
verbal jostling that comes with the rough and tumble of
politics — after all, both of his grandfathers served as
Liberal defence ministers. (CP) | CP

*Lost his 'political virginity'*
*Leslie may have been prepared for the scrutiny that began last weekend
with Conservative MPs questioning his 2012 moving expenses, which totalled

Woody Allen and Believing Victims
I thought it was creepy when Woody Allen married his adopted step-daughter.
I believed that both Woody and Mia Farrow must be weirdo fucked-up people.
So when Mia discovered that Woody had molested his own kids right after his
betrayal, and that these allegations were successfully denied in the
courts, I put her accusations down to a desire for revenge.
Why am I talking about these two celebrities?
Because the issues involved effect all of us. When Dylan Farrow reacted to
Woody's life-time achievement award from some organization, by insisting
that he had molested her, my response w... more »

Yank That Chain
I'm confused. How can President Obama both claim that he is flushing his
chained CPI method of starving old people and at the same time promise
that, if the Republicans get hungry enough, he'll snake his austerity plan

plutocrats? I mean, I've heard that dogs occasionally will eat their own

pragmatism is just grossing me out.

KNOWING THE BACK STORY
In Venezuela the CIA is funding and directing protests against that
government - a government the US corporate oligarchy has long wanted to
take down. It's about the oil in Venezuela. Not all protests are truly on
the mark. Some protests, like in Venezuela, are doing the work of the
corporate elite. It helps us to know the back-story.

about the street protests there. It might look like the Occupy movement in
one sense - but in the real world a significant part of the street violence

Chained CPI-- RIP? Now Let's Get To Work Strengthening Social Security
Last year, President Obama offered to compromise Social Security

It was a bad mistake but, lucky for America, the Republicans, who had

Senior particle phenomenologist John Ellis was heard as saying the

On the day that we went vegan, I went through every item in my pantry,

There was an unopened jar of mayonnaise and, with just the slightest

Sure, I tried the vegan substitutes on the market (hated them) and even

UHC 23: Orthopedic Hospital Corporatization, Not Privatization
There have been a number of political noise about the corporatization and

This is a typical disease of confusing and equating corporatization as

Tweens - older kids who are not yet teens - are among my favourite library

Sadly, tweens are often underserved at libraries. Library programming often

real teen scene. And libraries are often desperate for tween programming

In my room, and not that happy about it
I know that after I've said a sad goodbye to the Comision de Accion
Social Menonita and have returned to Canada, I will talk fondly to my
friends about having had the amazing opportunity to travel around so much
of Honduras through my work in all seven regions of CASM.
But tonight I’m in a down-market hotel room in teeny La Campa, sitting
under a hideous fluorescent doughnut light while dining on weird little
coconut sticks I packed in my bag knowing that I’d be dead bored by Day 3
with the limited food selection here. There’s absolutely zilch on the

The Community In Morocco: Traveling Living DOing
Community Morocco: Update!
Things are coming together very very quickly now and moving forward so fast
it is becoming difficult to keep track of it all.
Brian and Justin have written an excellent update that covers most of the
updates of the Community in Morocco and how we are moving forward.
As for my family's update, we picked up our passports yesterday! YAY!!!
and it only took 2 attempts, 3 sets of couriered documents, a few hundred
dollars, and just about 7 weeks ...... But that's behind us now, and NOW
we move forward!!!

REPOST: Where's my free will?
I don’t know about you, but when I tune in to the infantile ‘debate’ about
obesity – about who to blame when folk get fat and how ‘someone must do
something” (for “someone” read “government,” and for “something” read
coercion) – I find it disturbing that fatties and pollies alike find common
cause in removing personal responsibility from their respective equations.
If you're a fat bastard and you don't want to be, how about you stop
blaming vending machines, your school, your parents, your genes and just
try the 'don't-eat-so-frigging-much' diet. (Do you see many fat starving ... more »

From the *‘if you think we have it bad here department’* more tales of
jolly old England’s stiff-upper lipped charge into a full blown fascist

"I Desire" by John Hinkley Jr.
*John Hinckley Letter to Radio StationNov. 1982*
Copy of letter written by John Hinckley to the "Morning Zoo" radio DJs at
KZEW in Dallas, TX.
Dated Nov. 1982, John mentions his love of new wave music, especially DEVO.
He says "I co-wrote a song on their new album. The song is *My Desire* and
I want you to play it 58 times each day."
DEVO used portions of a letter that John Hinckley wrote to Jodie Foster as
lyrics to the song "I Desire" from the "Oh, No! It's DEVO" album. Warner
Bros was not happy when they found out they'd have to pay Hinckley for his
lyrics.

his deranged primary run against John Cornyn.

How far did we get with Hawking’s first book?

“without question, the most upright man then living.”
