Muslim Brotherhood Takes The Side of Criminal Erdoğan Against Peaceful Protesters

The Egyptian-based Muslim Brotherhood, which so far has been the biggest beneficiary of the Arab Spring in Egypt, is against the people protesting in Turkey for their freedoms and their beliefs because they are protesting against a self-proclaimed Islamic leader. Here is an excerpt from the article, *"Brotherhood leaders slam Turkey protestors"*: Several Muslim Brotherhood leaders accused Turkish protesters of receiving foreign funds from entities which they claim "want to make the highly successful Islamic project fail". They said the crisis in Turkey is not really about the devel... more »

McCain Vs The Wacko Birds

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 56 minutes ago
McCain seems pretty bitter. Just 13 years younger than the recently departed Frank Lautenberg, McCain is fighting with everyone these days. Determined to start one more war before he dies, he's especially bitter that Republicans he and Lindsey Graham have dubbed "the wacko birds" are blocking his attempts to involve the U.S. in a war with Iran via Syria. Yesterday on CBS he expressed his displeasure that Darrell Issa, himself a serial car thief and arsonist-for-pay, called White House Press Secretary Jay Carney a "paid liar," something most right-wing groups are applauding. But it... more »

SD DEMS to Fight ALEC in the Media - PLS HELP

I have written several entries about what happened in South Dakota this past spring. They put forth a ruling from their legislative executive committee – that paid ALEC dues for EVERY member of the legislature – forcing DEMS to belong to ALEC. Their legislative executive committee forced the state to pay for attendance to ALEC meetings - when we all know that corporate scholarships - pay 100% of the costs to ALEC meetings. One ALEC legislator (probably Peters) had the balls to say something to the affect of: Now you can use ALEC against us in the campaigns.” WELL South Dakota i... more »

Here we go, Lockheed Martin's now-73 years old senior research scientist Boyd Bushman (who've I've featured before substantiating the wild 'n' insane claims of Bob Lazar(ium) of Element 115 fame) recently interviewed by David Sereda for his forthcoming documentary From Here To Andromeda. Reverting back to Sir Isaac Newton's equations of motion, Bushman has re-calculated Einstein's E=mc² to show that we've so far only discovered five of the *eight major forces* of nature. Where offence named and statutory section listed conflict should a certificate of offence be quashed on ex parte trial? Leave granted by OCA

James C Morton at Morton's Musings - 10 hours ago
R. v. Farah, 2013 ONCA 362 dealt with a situation where a provincial offences certificate of offence named one offence but referred to a statutory provision for another offence. The Court of Appeal granted leave to consider whether such certificate ought to be quashed as irregular on as ex parte trial: [23] This case raises a different question. In *Young*, the defendants were not given the correct set fine amount that applied to the offences with which they had been charged. Under what circumstances should an action be dismissed by the court following a status hearing?

Faris v. Eftimovski, 2013 ONCA 360 holds that on a status hearing rule 48.14(13) says that the onus is on the plaintiff to demonstrate why the action should not be dismissed for delay. The test requires the plaintiff to demonstrate that there was an acceptable explanation for the delay and establish that, if the action were allowed to proceed, the defendant would suffer no non-compensable prejudice: [39] In the case of a status hearing, however, an opportunity for the court to consider dismissing an action for delay will not arise for a considerable period of time after the ... more »

But still, ... when you think about how harsh the universe is, ... how fragile we are, ... and think about what a thin film of gases protec...more »

Rahm Emanuel Is Sending Rich, Dumb Dems To Christie

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 16 hours ago
Frank Lautenberg died Sunday night. He was, at 89 the oldest member of the Senate, had been ill for a long time and his death doesn't surprise many. Now Obama's BBF, Gov. Chris Christie gets to appoint a successor. Lautenberg was a dependable progressive across the board. His ProgressivePunch crucial vote score was 94.05, just between Barbara Boxer and Tammy Baldwin. Although, like many of his wealthy liberal colleagues, he sometimes joined with the Republicans to pass corporate-friendly policies, there were no issues he wasn't one of the best in the Senate on. How to write about Honduras, or ‘Death, Death, Death!’

paul at Paying attention - 16 hours ago
It’s been striking how much of the commentary about Honduras in the world press or blogland seems to hit the same strings of clichés, shuffled to suit the bias of the intended audience. It’s been equally striking to see all sorts of claims about the country unsupported by facts, stats or evidence of any kind. There are notable exceptions, like Alberto Arce, the Associated Press reporter in Tegucigalpa who is doing great work. Tomas Ayuso offers his take on the lousy writing on the country in ‘Violence and voyeurism: A guide on how to write about Honduras.’ For example: “If you are to... more »

All political parties have their own manure machines -- propaganda shops, whose task is to sell their program. But, under Stephen Harper, political propaganda has been redefined. It's now all about *ad hominem *attacks; and it's non stop, all year round. The Harper brand of manure relies on several carefully defined strategies. Michael Harris examines some of them: Here’s one of the favourites. I call it the “They hate Harper” ploy. No matter what a critic says, this form of manure management moves the debate from the substance of the criticism to its motivation. The benefits ar... more »

WHAT’S WRONG WITH MSNBC: The New York Times asks!

bob somerby at the daily howler - 16 hours ago
*TUESDAY, JUNE 4, 2013* *Part 2—And largely fails to answer:* Is it fair to criticize MSNBC because Fox clobbers it in the ratings? Basically, no—it isn’t. For one thing, Fox has been at its mission much longer, ever since it went on the air in 1996. By way of contrast, MSNBC has only become a liberal channel in the past few years. (Rachel Maddow got her own show in September 2008. That meant that MSNBC now had *two* hours of liberal programming each night.) Beyond that, quality can’t be measured by ratings. A very good political channel might well lose the ratings war to a politi... more »

Unicorn Skull

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 18 hours ago
What this report does for us is flesh out the legend of the unicorn. Perhaps it will become possible to recover DNA. As is made clear, we also have solid cultural information describing a small elusive population that was extant up to the end of the seventeenth century, after which they could have easily been hunted out by the natives without ever been disclosed to white settlers on the Atlantic seaboard. This skull certainly confirms the likely reality of the cultural information. It also provides the working template for the whole unicorn legend. Other aspects, such as ... more »

Historic Monsanto Counter Revolution?

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 18 hours ago
The harsh reality is that Monsanto's clear mandate is to generate artificial revenue monopolies in the chemical business. They have hugely succeeded in doing this with the industrial farm model while dumping certain costs out onto the environment. These costs are been sustained though simple propaganda and obfuscation. It is obvious to everybody that mass production of cattle and pigs and chickens needs a market for the byproduct of animal manure. No such market presently exists. The obvious fix is to apply a direct tax on this manure and include imported meat to level th... more »

Is Apple's Fight on Agency or Most Favored Nations?

Opening statement in US v. Apple by quartznews Sometimes it’s best to keep your dirty laundry inside and not show it to the world. We have seen some interesting misjudgements and statements over the last decade, first with the Google Book Settlement (GBS) and latterly with the Apple Agency Pricing. In both cases there appears to be a clash of cultures, misunderstanding between parties and momentum behind the search for a ‘silver bullet’ at all costs. What is interesting from the material released on day one of the agency trail, is how the search for any solution appears to have b... more »

Imagine an American president saying he was gay today, or any Western leader, or an Iranian president, or any Muslim leader. The outgoing Iranian president *said* gays don't even exist in Iran. There are rumours that President Obama is gay, in which case he should come out and say so and take the shame away. Isn't that what leaders are for? It would be big if he turned out to be both the first black and the first gay American president. An excerpt from ... more »

You know, people who can find Syria on a map for him and tell him who to stand beside and who not to stand beside in a foreign country. * Related: *Global Public Opinion Is Against The Aggressive War On Syria*. Excerpts from, *"NATO data: Assad winning the war for Syrians’ hearts and minds"* (Source: WorldTribune.com, May 31): After two years of civil war, support for the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad was said to have sharply increased. NDP In British Columbia, Time For New Faces, Time For Guts

Grant G at The Straight Goods - 1 day ago
A little before my time but definitely apropos for BC`s 2013 election... Adrian Dix the defeated, the beaten and laughing stock of politics, the face of humiliation, and still today BC`s NDP is making excuses for the devastating loss.. Here`s a newsflash to the NDP brass, the media, the media Adrian Dix told during the election writ that the gravy train of feeding $millions of taxpayer dollars for needless Government advertising was over under a elected NDP Government is very active in destroying the 2017 NDP, destroying what`s left of the party before the smoke even clears.....He... more »

“If you have any questions about Tuhoe, go and read your history.”

Peter Cresswell at Not PC - 1 day ago
As a former lawyer for Ngai Tahu, Treaty Negotiations Minister Chris Finlayson is obviously able to play both sides of the fence when it comes to both pulling down and distributing taxpayer dollars by the million. [image: image]Hailed as “momentous” by a Prime Minister more reliant than ever on the votes delivered by the Maori Party, the multi-million dollar Deed of Settlement to be signed today—the Tuhoe deal—will cost today’s taxpayers $170 million and a National Park for things they never did. Finlayson says “If you have any questions about Tuhoe, go and read your history.” O... more »

Will MN CD6 Go from Tea Party to ALEC?

Direct association and confirm-able affiliations with the extremist, pro-corporate, right-wing, ultraconservative American Legislative Exchange Council should ALWAYS be a campaign issue. From Talking Points Memo this afternoon: Tom Emmer, the 2010 Republican gubernatorial candidate in Minnesota, has an event planned Wednesday where he is expected to announce his candidacy for the House seat that will be vacated by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), according to the Associated Press. The event is scheduled to be held in Emmer's hometown of Delano, Minn. *2010* * * *ALEC* *PRESS RELEAS... more »

*The senator in 2010* *by Ken* I know it's in terrible taste, but instead of paying tribute to New Jersey's senior senator, who died today of viral pneumonia at 89, I'm going to jump to the political aftermath. I'm afraid I can offer only two justifications: (1) I don't know quite what to say about the senator -- at least nothing that *DWT* readers don't all know. At a time when it becomes harder and harder to identify authentic liberals in the U.S. Senate, I think he's as close as they come. For some prompting regarding his Senate legacy, ThinkProgress's Igor Volsky offers a nic... more »

“Virtually Everything You Have Been Told Is Wrong”

* “Virtually Everything You Have Been Told Is Wrong”* by Karl Denninger “Really, I mean it. We can have a debate over whether the wrong is due to stupidity or intentional misconduct, but it doesn't matter if you're on the receiving end of the advice and follow it. The outcome remains the same whether you are hosed due to intent or idiocy. Let's start with one of the alleged "holy grail" items in America: Dietary advice. You're told to eat in a "pyramid" (although they've tried to change this to "plate slices" recently) which bases most of your caloric intake on grains, then ve... more »

IRS Scandal - As know nothings continue to stonewall until the cows come home , might those low levels employees from Cincinnati blow the whole scandal wide open ?

Fresh anti- government clashes - Turkey sees a second day of massive protests against the Erdogan Government

( Aspects of this seem like deja vu - the protests remind me of those in Bahrain before the soldiers started using live ammo.... How Milton Friedman Corrupted Capitalism

Peter Cresswell at Not PC - 1 day ago
*I’m thoroughly enjoying reading David Stockman’s book* The Great Deformation: The Corruption of Capitalism in America*, and I can highly recommend it as a leading historical explanation of how American capitalism became anything but—from capitalism to cronyism in one century, with significant ideological way-stations on the way.* * One of the most obvious contemporary examples of America’s lack of a truly free market is its banking system: a system buttressed by government bonds, with interest rates set by an economic dictator and with regulations positively encouraging moral ... more »

Ablett!

So a player who left your club to start a new one comes back to your ground, on the very night that new stands, new lights, and what’s essentially a new ground is unveiled. He comes back to play against you, this legend of the game, and he does *this*… And he does it bang in front of a stand named after him and his dad. The same place he kicked virtually the *same* goal four years ago when he was wearing your colours. What else can every supporter in the ground do but stand and cheer. Even your own coach, who “is not so much open-mouthed as near to devotion.” "The people in fr... more »

*MONDAY, JUNE 3, 2013* *Will MSNBC follow suit:* Way back in 1999, the values of the modern press corps were captured in a classic anecdote in a classic profile. The anecdote appeared in the Brill’s Content portrait of Maureen Dowd. Reporter Gay Jervey quoted Joe Klein telling a press corps-defining tale: JERVEY (6/99): *“Maureen is very talented,” observes Joe Klein of The New Yorker. “But she is ground zero of what the press has come to be about in the nineties*...I remember having a discussion with her in which I said, 'Maureen, why don't you go out and report about something s... more »
