There is a link in a *Think Progress piece today* about North Carolina.
That link takes you back to an article that written before Moral Monday

The April article begins:
*In 2010, Republicans took over both houses *of the North Carolina
legislature for the first time since 1870, due in no small part to the
spending of a single, very wealthy Republican. As Jane Mayer reported in
2011, “three-quarters of the spending by independent groups in North

Challenging US Lawlessness
*Reuters Image* Stephen Lendman
It's vital today more than ever. America's a rogue terror state. It's
ruthlessly out-of-control. It spurns rule of law principles. It mocks
democratic rights. It honors its worst. It persecutes its best.
It acts unconscionably. It threatens freedom. It menaces world peace. It
endangers humanity. It's guilty of worldwide espionage on a massive,
unprecedented scale.
Edward Snowden revealed it. Everyone needs to know. He did it heroically.
He accepted great risks. He acted responsibly. He did so because it
matters. He's a role model for others. Hopefu... more »
License Plate Readers Collecting a Massive Amount of Data on Drivers

Why hasn’t the US government snatched Ed Snowden yet?
Jon Rappoport
Is the NSA a leaking sieve?
Well, Ed Snowden proved it, didn’t he?
He strolled into work with a thumb drive, plugged in, and stole the holy of
holies.
This is the vaunted NSA we’re talking about. They can reach out and spy on
anybody in the world, but they just didn’t remember to put safeguards in
place, in their own offices.
They forgot. For years.
You know, just an oops.
And people nod and shrug when they hear about it.
The NSA says, “Now that we’re aware of the problem, we’re going to install
new procedures to tighten security.”
Sure.
And then there is this.... more »
12 Different Approaches to Mood Boosting

A majority of them are anti-depressants which have dangerous and sometimes

Well-meaning doctors don't often look beyond physical symptoms or even have
time to inquire about your life or mindset. Anti-depressants, promoted by
pharma reps, are sent home at the first sign of trouble - unhappiness. But
aren't there many other ways to address mood issues? Actually yes, and this

The recent events surrounding Edward Snowden, the NSA whistleblower, gives

this is only a thought experiment. On the other hand, with individuals like

Soaring Mortgage Rates Are Going To Make It Far More Difficult To Buy Or Sell A House

Did you actually think that mortgage rates were going to stay at all-time

distort the market for a while by buying up massive amounts of government

that the market was going to stay that distorted forever. It simply does
not make sense to give American families 30-year mortgages at a fixed

ADHD a ‘Fictitious Disease’ Says the Creator of the Ailment
by Mike Barret
Natural Society, 28 June 2013
Did you know that The American Psychiatric Association estimates that 3%-7%
of school-aged children have ADHD, while parents report that about 9.5% of
children between 9- and 7 years old suffer from the condition? Although
these statistics are alarming, they aren’t as shocking as the fact that *attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder is a completely made-up ailment, according
to the “father” of ADHD, Leon Eisenberg, who made the ... more »

One tool used by the campaigners of “man-made” or anthropogenic global
warming (AGW) and its cousin anthropogenic climate change (ACC), is to
produce various climate models that show only one thing – an ever-rising
global temperature for the planet until 2100 and beyond. Thus, to prevent
or limit that from happening, global energy consumption from fossil fuels
that contribute to rising carbon dioxide (CO2) level in the atmosphere
should be drastically regulated, if not controlled.

An Open Letter to the Honourable Neil Wittmann, Chief Justice,
*Dear Chief Justice Wittmann:*
This Open Letter is written to you to help stimulate discussion
about the allegations widely made in Canada that the present Tory cabinet
in Ottawa is engaging in anti-democratic moves serving to destroy major
national institutions that assure Canadian freedoms. One of those
institutions under serious threat is the higher court system of the
country. You appear to me to be complicit in helping to make the system an
instrument of criminals and fascists present in governments and
corporations. I hope I am wrong in my assessment.

So, what is the point of these inspectors 'inspecting' in Turkey?

Hey, Immigration Reporters! Will "Blame Both Sides" Work?
Brian Beutler has a nice piece today arguing that Republicans are already
turning towards blaming Barack Obama and the Democrats for the collapse of
the immigration bill.
Here's my question: is there anyone out there listening?
Presumably, the target for this sort of thing is neutral Latino opinion
leaders -- not a large group, but a non-zero one -- who are open to a
"blame both sides" argument. Maybe even Republican Latino opinion leaders
who are willing to accept a lot, but not everything.
It seems to me (and I'm working from memory here, but I think I'm correct)
that in fact Rep... more »

Top 10 Reasons Paula Deen Got Fired by the Food Network
Iconic southern cuisine chef Paula Deen has become the 21st century's
Typhoid Mary for certain admissions that she'd used the "n" word and having
once planned a slavery-themed wedding. This had prompted Miss Deen to plead
her case to Matt Lauer yesterday in which she accused others of telling
lies about her by citing her own words in a court deposition for a
discrimination lawsuit and being out to destroy her. Deen ended the
interview by defiantly saying, "I is what I is and I'm not changing." Since
the admission, Deen has been dropped by Novo Nordisk, Target, Home Depot,

one of what Heather calls the self-appointed "divines" (lower case) who'd

his very polished salesman type approach he came popping into my dream

have endorsed Democratic Senator Brian Schatz.

Ed Markey
I haven't done a post yet on the new Senator from Massachusetts, mainly
because there was no surprise here, and he's presumably about as
predictable a new Senator as is possible.
I have talked about how Ed Markey is a setback for getting the Senate to be
younger, but if you're looking for trivia, Eric Ostermeier has plenty more:
about older Senators winning special elections, and about Markey's new
record for longest House service before moving to the Senate.
I don't have much to say substantively about Markey. I suspect he'll be a
disappointing Senator because he'll find it diffic... more »

NDP, Liberals - Your Summer Project
Thanks to Senator Hugh Segal, the opposition parties have a wonderful
opportunity to do something useful over the summer recess - they can rally
to the defence of Canadian labour and every working man and woman in the
country.
Segal has reportedly infuriated the Harper regime by introducing an
amendment supported by a handful of decent Tory senators and Liberal
senators that effectively guts radical Tory MP Russ Hiebert's bill to
compel union disclosure.
The bill now goes back to the Commons this fall for reconsideration. That
gives the New Democrats and the Liberals ample time ... more »
Comical Plutocrat Blows Smoke At Greenwald
When it comes to the latest conspiracy theories, I usually back away out of
pure rational instinct. But the smear campaign currently in full swing
against Glenn Greenwald simply reeks of a conspiracy between the government
and the corporate press.
The smears against Edward Snowden started predictably and immediately. But
the campaign against the messenger of the messenger took awhile, mainly
because Snowden is off the radar at the moment and Glenn Greenwald's public
profile has been rising by the day. David Gregory got the ball rolling last
Sunday, and landed in the gutter. (see thi... more »
Now, Alberta, About That Pesky Carbon Bubble
Alberta is facing three immediate and potentially lasting problems - the
prospects of frequent, severe floods; the likelihood of extended periods of
severe drought; and the Carbon Bubble that hangs over the provincial
economy like a Sword of Damocles.
By some accounts, the Carbon Bubble dilemma worsened yesterday with
president Obama's climate change speech. He said that approval of the
Keystone XL pipeline would depend on ensuring it didn't "significantly
increase" greenhouse gas emissions. Obama could have but didn't clarify
what that meant.
He might have meant total, overall ... more »

Silver At Less Than 19 Dollars An Ounce? Are You Kidding Me???
Michael Snyder
The day that silver traders have been waiting for has arrived. On
Wednesday, the price of silver dropped another 5 percent. As I write this,
it is sitting at $18.55 an ounce. On Wednesday it hit a low that had not
been seen in three years. Overall, the price of silver has declined by 34
percent this quarter. That is the largest quarterly move in the price of
silver in more than 30 years. So what does all of this mean? It means
that we are looking at a historic buying opportunity for those that are
interested in silver.

DHS Report Points To Armageddon Scenario
Chris Carrington
In 2009 the DHS commissioned a report into the threats posed by space
weather. The fact that they did this is not surprising, we would all prefer
that the government actually did something sensible like protect their
citizens from the impact of CME’s, flares and such like.
The report was published in November 2011 and it states quite clearly on
the documentation page that it’s an unclassified report that has been
approved for unlimited public release.
With something that can impact millions of people in the US alone it’s
amazing that few people have heard that su... more »

Massive Coronal Hole: Solar Wind Will Hit Earth June 29th-30
credit: SDO/AIA Chris Carrington
A massive coronal hole straddling the Sun’s equator is sending out a highly
charged solar wind that will hit the Earth's magnetic field square on.
Solar winds are a continuous stream of ions, charged particles. The coronal
hole allows the particles to escape instead of looping back down to the
Suns surface. The winds from coronal holes take a few days to reach Earth,
and due to the Sun's rotation they emanate out in a ‘pinwheel’ fashion as
they pass through the solar system.
It’s the buffering of the Earth's magnetic field that gives rise to

Aaron Dykes and Melissa Melton
Well, it appears they may be running out of new ideas. The most recent to
come out in the mainstream media actually involved a death ray.
That’s right — a death ray.
The Atlantic Wire reports:
First, the plan allegedly crafted by [Glendon] Crawford and alleged
co-conspirator Eric J. Feight was ridiculous — the death ray wouldn’t work.
The plan involved mounting a remote-control operated X-ray laser on top of
a truck to kill people without them noticing.
