Canada’s ‘creeping authoritarianism’ in political pre-screening of scientists’ media contact
Documents obtained through freedom of information law show how Canada’s Harper government is controlling federal scientists’ ability to communicate with journalists on scientific issues. The requirement for ministerial-level pre-approval for media contacts applies broadly, not only to politically contentious issues …Continue reading
Government scientific integrity issues in Canada and the U.S. – Earthbeat Radio interview
The Canadian government appears to be politically filtering scientific information. And while the Obama administration is an improvement over its predecessor on scientific integrity, there remain unresolved issues, including federal agencies being more than a year late with new protections … Continue reading

ANN KEENAN of MI 3:32PM January 16, 2012 has decided to attack me personally by stating "Arno Arrak needs to lead us to all of his actual "research" on global warming. What are you scientific credentials, Arno Arrak? Mr. Arrak is anxious that you read his book; reading his book will bring him with more money, but what is it doing to those of you who must live in a polluted and failing environment?" Actually, all you have to do to see my work is to use Google Scholar. Here is a paper on Arctic climate you can download: http://curryja.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/arno-arrak.pdf . In case you are too lazy or too incompetent to read it, this article proves that Arctic warming is not caused by the greenhouse effect. It started suddenly at the beginning of the twentieth century, after a two thousand year period of slow cooling. There was no parallel increase of atmospheric carbon dioxide as required by the laws of physics of the greenhouse effect, and this leaves us looking for an alternate source of warming. It is highly likely that the warming started as a result of a rearrangement of North Atlantic current system at the turn of the century that began directing warm water of the Gulf Stream into the Arctic. The warming paused for thirty years in mid-century, then resumed, and is still going strong. You cannot turn greenhouse warming on and off like that. Direct measurements of water temperatures reaching the Arctic in 2010 showed that Arctic water temperatures exceeded anything seen within the last 2000 years. As for making money out of my book, I wish it were true. You would be wise to spring for it because you would be rewarded by learning some real climate science.

The US demands Russia give up Snowden
Neither China or Russia view their interests as tied at the hip to America's, and the reluctance of two countries who are constantly beaten up by the State Department over poor free speech and human rights records have frankly been enjoying the spectacle of America chasing after a so-called whistleblower.
"We can hand over foreign citizens to countries with which we have an appropriate international agreement on the extradition of criminals," Putin told reporters today. "We don't have such an agreement with the United States ." It's not hard to imagine what Putin thinks when he hears of a "routine" extradition request from a country with which Russia does not have an extradition treaty.
