Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson Speak Out on the NSA and PRISM Spy Project
We got to know them when they stood defiant against the Bush/Cheney/Scooter
Libby cabal over their government's cooked up claims about Saddam and his
supposed arsenal of weapons of mass destruction.
Joe Wilson was the former diplomat who exposed the "yellowcake" claim to be
bogus. His wife, former CIA spy, Valerie Plame, was outed as a
consequence, her career ended and her contacts put in jeopardy.
So what do Val and Joe think of the NSA's PRISM metadata scandal? Plenty.

Alberta Warned - Stop Development on Flood Plains - Nobody Listened, as Usual.
My view of Alberta's Conservative government were formed decades ago when
the issue of mandatory infant car seats came up in the legislature. Car
seats - for kids - huge controversy, really.
Conservative members were quite outspoken. Alberta motorists didn't need
any more laws tying them down. Sure infant car seats were a good idea but
that should be left up to the parents, not forced on them by the
government. The good people of Alberta had the right not to be told what
to do by their government.
It was astonishing. They were speaking up for the parents, voters, instead ... more »

How the Declaration of Independence got Hijacked
Susan Boskey
This July 4th Americans celebrate their 237th Independence Day. The
Declaration of Independence, signed during the midst of the American
Revolution in 1776, was not just a statement of grievances against the
British monarchy but also a declaration of freedom from it, citing
unalienable rights of self-governance. I said un-alienable, not
in-alienable rights. Most believe there is no real difference between the
two words. But not so fast. When unalienable was replaced with inalienable
it diminished the original intention of personal rights; among which are

Nutrition 101: How Processed Foods Make Us Fat, Malnourished, and Sick
Daisy Luther
Did you ever wonder how people who exist on a diet of mainly processed
foods can be both overweight and malnourished at the same time? Despite
overly abundant calories, people who live off of boxed macaroni and cheese,
frozen dinners, Ramen noodles, and other packaged foods aren’t getting the
nutrients that people who eat a whole foods diet are getting. Deadly GMO
ingredients aside, the sheer amount of chemicals in processed foods can
lead to disease, obesity, and malnutrition.

Crazy Nuclear Safety
Critics of nuclear power often denounce it as unsafe, yet they very seldom
focus on answers to the question: "What can be done to make nuclear power
safer." As it turns out, it is possible to make nuclear power so safe that
there would never be a human casualty from a nuclear accident during the
entire period of human life on earth. Even at this level of safety, it
might be possible to make nuclear power even safer. This might sound
crazy, but there may be plausible reasons for adopting such safety
standards.

Will summer camp make my kids rich?
Paul Krugman, commenting on my recent article, thinks it is noteworthy that

PUNCHING A WOMAN seems to be RCMP best-practice, when they don't have a
Taser handy. Halifax Media Co-op has a report by Miles Howe, "12 more
opposed to shale gas arrested as RCMP turn violent on National
Aboriginal Day". Apparently the locals don't like exploration for shale
gas and are protesting to stop it. Grrrrrrrrr . . .
What Mattered This Week?
The Supremes held off on the headline cases this week, but decided a bunch
of others. Those are important, too!
What didn't matter? I'm not sure that what happens to Snowden matters very
much, I suppose, although I'm open to arguments the other way.
That's what I have. What do you think mattered this week?
OCCUPY NATURE
New documentary Grasp The Nettle shows how state inaction on climate change
fosters direct action on society’s margins.
Two years before the Occupy movement sprang forth in New York and London, a
motley group of land rights activists occupied a piece of disused land in
west London to create an alternative model of moneyless, sustainable
living. Little did they know they were about to embark on an extraordinary
journey, at once harrowing and inspiring, that would take them into the
heart of Westminster.

"Thus, we have largely our knowledge or opinion of Greek religion from the

The government's enthusiasm for secret courts has suffered a setback after
the UK's most senior judges quashed an anti-terrorist sanction imposed on
an Iranian bank and dismissed the intelligence involved as irrelevant.
In two related judgments, the supreme court ordered the Treasury to remove
sanctions against Bank Mellat and said that, in future, appeal courts
should go into closed session "only where it has been convincingly

Another Israeli War Criminal of the Year Award

Heroes, fake hope, and real hope in the Matrix

The occasion for this article is the controversy swirling around Edward

It’s about one corner of that controversy: should we accept him as a hero
even if the possibility exists that he isn’t?
The Matrix is designed to stimulate certain emotions.
For example: “We had a hero. Then he was taken down. Now we will feel
sadness, desolation, and eventually nostalgia for what might have been.”
For example: “We have a hero. Let’s not look too closely at what he is. Now
we will feel hope, a joy at... more »

Having read Laura Vozzella’s report in the Washington Post, we have no

3 Reasons Why You Should March Against Chemtrails and Geoengineering on 8/25/13

“If The Yield Goes Significantly Higher The Market Is Going To Freak Out”
Michael Snyder
If yields on U.S. Treasury bonds keep rising, things are going to get very
messy. As I write this, the yield on 10 year U.S. Treasuries has risen to
2.51 percent. If that keeps going up, it is going to be like a mile-wide

low interest rate policies have systematically pushed investors into stocks
