Indiscriminate Air Strikes By Iraq’s Army On Civilian Targets
When the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) surrounded Fallujah in January 2014 it

simply lobbing mortar and artillery shells into Fallujah in the apparent

most of northern Iraq has fallen to insurgents the ISF has began using air

The Safety of Prostitutes

Journalist Speaks Truth to Employer, Demoted from "Contributor" to "Palestinian"
A
day after journalist, writer, and frequent MSNBC contributor Rula

It’s thundering rain this afternoon at our borrowed beach house in the Discovery

Horrible Whodunit: Vandals Destroy Tens of Thousands of Bees

Bees are becoming as precious as lost water in the drought-stricken Western
states. When millions of them die, it might be referred to as a bee '

keeps them from agricultural plumes. It's no wonder then that the people

What is reasonable doubt?
A reasonable doubt is not a doubt based on sympathy or prejudice; it is
based on reason and common sense. It is logically connected to the evidence
or absence of evidence. It does not require proof to an absolute certainty
nor is it proof beyond any doubt. It is not proof beyond an imaginary or
frivolous doubt. A determination that an accused "probably" had the
requisite intent falls far short of proof beyond a reasonable doubt. (*R.

Here two reporters with the same last name have published their columns on the same day. Most of Steve Watson's sources appear to have been individuals who believe -- or deliberately abet -- U.S. propaganda alleging without proof that the downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 was the work of pro-Russian separatists. However, Steve's video is a must-see: The whereabouts of all aircraft over Ukraine on that fateful day is recited by Lieutenant-General Igor Makushev of Russia’s Air Forces with an English translator (at the 12.30 minute mark he begins to illustrate airport radar views). This open-to-the-press session also claimed that satellite views showed that all Buk anti-aircraft batteries at the moment of the shoot-down were in Ukrainian-held territory. In Steve's last paragraph, he cites Paul Joseph Watson's conversation with a well trusted American reporter who was shown strong evidence that Washington is lying about who is responsible for the downing of MH17. Paul Joseph's column is re-posted here just below Steve's byline.

Why Do Peacebuilding Interventions Often Fail?
Why do international peacebuilding efforts often fail in places like the
Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and the Central African Republic?
Séverine Autesserre’s work in the DRC suggests that a variety of factors
explain these disappointments, including peacebuilders’ failures to engage
in local peace building. In her new book, Peaceland, Autesserre argues that
the everyday habits of

Has the Dept. of Homeland Security Become America's Standing Army?
The Rutherford Institute
If the United States is a police state, then the Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) is its national police force, with all the brutality,
ineptitude and corruption such a role implies. In fact, although the DHS'
governmental bureaucracy may at times appear to be inept and bungling, it
is ruthlessly efficient when it comes to building what the Founders feared
most—a standing army on American soil.

An interesting interview with Dirac

NEW KIDS ON THE LAWN: And the culture they're choosing to join!
*WEDNESDAY, JULY 23, 2014*
*Interlude—Worst works of the past generation:* Journalism’s “worst
generation” is hobbling off the stage.
As the various Sam-and-Cokies depart, they are largely being replaced by
bright young 20-somethings from Harvard, Princeton and Yale. Sometimes, the
big new orgs are willing to slum. They’ll hire a youngster from Brown.
For ourselves, we’re constantly struck by the horrible work these “new kids

we’re often struck by their lack of technical skill.
Beyond that, we’re struck by their... more »

Arguments For and Against Prostitution
Now, I've said that I wouldn't partake of the services of prostitutes. At
the moment I can't see myself doing that. It's entirely possible that I
might one day be a 65-year old lecher calling up some escort service for a
20-year old vixen, but I don't see it.
That having been said, I don't see prostitution as inherently evil and
degrading. Certainly as it manifests itself, I think that in practice it is
often evil and degrading. This is due to our love-hate relationship with
sex and to the general level of misogyny in our society.
From what some sex-workers have to say though, it is... more »

In this age of political polarization, it’s increasingly rare to find an

When such an issue does come along, it sets the stage for the kind of

impossible. Common Core education standards have emerged from the shadows
of obscurity and have become such an issue.
Common Core standards originated in the same way that all government
