Thomas Piketty and ‘The Anti-Capitalistic Mentality’

Peter Cresswell at Not PC - 24 minutes ago
*Guest post by Andrew Wilson* Ludwig Von Mises’ treatise on why capitalism sits in the dock, falsely accused of various crimes against humanity, is a classic: his book *The Anti-Capitalistic Mentality *bravely saying what still needs to be said. It offers a robust rebuttal to the jaundiced view of capitalism found (most recently and conspicuously) in Thomas Piketty’s *Capital in the Twenty-First Century*. In *The Anti-Capitalistic Mentality*, Mises asks: Why do so many people “loathe” capitalism? He gives a threefold answer. The first factor is simple ignorance. Few people cred... more »

GAZA AND THE NEOCON LIES

Neoconservative master propagandist Jonathan Tobin writing in *Commentary* today says about the current crisis that “Hamas set events in motion last month when some of its operatives kidnapped and murdered three Israeli teenagers and then escalated the conflict by shooting several hundred rockets into the Jewish state from its Gaza stronghold”. Rubbish. It was Israel that set events in motion when IDF snipers shot dead Gazan civilians during the months preceding the current crisis. A number of those randomly murdered were farmers tending fields close to the border with Israel. One ... more »

The US-NATO are pushing for war with Russia. By actively supporting the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev, Ukraine with money, weapons, and military advisers the plan is that Russia will eventually come to the aid of Russian ethnic people in the eastern portion of the country thus giving the US-NATO the pretext to fully enter into war with Russia via Ukraine. In an earlier posting I purposely and deliberately said that the Air Force lied about sighting solutions in the Project Blue Book files. I said this because they knew, based on their own files, that the satellite solution for one aspect of the Portage County Chase did not work. They, which is to say Hector Quintanilla, knew the truth. As the man in charge, he owns the ultimate responsibility here and he had, naturally, complete access to the Project Blue Book files. Lockheed Martin in the U.S. designed the single-engine, radar-evading jet, but the company licenses some of the actual manufacturing to foreign factories. The Netherlands is considering tapping Italian firm Alenia Aerospace to make most of the Dutch jets, which could form the backbone of the RNLAF for many decades. The missiles, believed to be of Scud variations, were fired from the North Korean city of Kaesong near the border with the South and had a range of about 500 kilometers (311 miles), said a South Korean military official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of department rules. With journalists sentenced to hard labour for writing about an isolated installation, experts are concerned about what might be being produced. America Sets Sail: New Class Of Amphib, LHA-6, Leaves Shipyard

Ko Savonije at Naval Open Source INTelligence - 1 day ago
After five years in the shipyard, the first of a new class of Navy amphibious warship set sail today from its Pascagoula, Miss. birthsite for San Francisco, headed for the fleet. LHA-6 will be commissioned as the USS America this October. America has been controversial in the military and on this website. I’ve argued the LHA-6 is a dead end in naval design, because in order to carry more aircraft — MV-22 Osprey tiltrotors, F-35B Joint Strike Fighter jump-jets — it sacrifices the well deck required to launch landing craft and amtracs, which sort of takes the “amphibious” out of “amp... more »

Congressman Says Wrong Time to Dry Dock Cruisers

Ko Savonije at Naval Open Source INTelligence - 1 day ago
[image: USS Lake Erie]Lawmakers overseeing the nation's sea service believe that the U.S. Navy's plans to pull half of its cruiser fleet out of commission for expensive upgrades will send these critical missile boats to an early grave. Currently, the Navy has 22 missile cruisers that serve as key players in the air defense of the service's aircraft carrier groups. These cruisers provide ballistic missile defense but also serve as the command and control ship for larger, guided missile destroyers, Navy officials said. Navy leaders, testifying Thursday before the House Armed Services ... more »

France may have just what DND needs

Ko Savonije at Naval Open Source INTelligence - 1 day ago
[image: Dassault Rafale]A phalanx of major French defence firms is lining up to provide Canada with new warships and planes, in hopes of prying a share of the biggest Canadian military hardware bonanza since the Second World War away from U.S. industry heavyweight Lockheed Martin. In the process the French appear to be offering the Harper government a timely and politically salable off-ramp from its multiyear, multibillion-dollar procurement mess. What remains to be seen is whether Prime Minister Stephen Harper and cabinet have the wit and wherewithal to seize the opportunity, or w... more »

Britains future frigate: A look at the Type 26 Global Combat Ship

Ko Savonije at Naval Open Source INTelligence - 1 day ago
[image: Type 26 Global Combat Ship]The shake up of the armed forces is well underway, with the UK moving forward with plans for its future of defence and security. This has seen numerous projects announced and completed for use on the land, in the air, and sea. One of the biggest recent procurement projects going through the system is the replacement of the Royal Navy's Type 23 frigates. The al-new replacement Type 26 will also have a primary role as a specialist anti-submarine warfare ship, but it will be expected to be inherently flexible in capability and able to carry out a wid... more »

July 11: just annoyed. that's all..

Graeme Decarie at The Moncton Times@Transcript - Good and Bad - 1 day ago
It's late Friday night. I should be in bed doing crossword puzzles. But It's been a bloody annoying day - starting with a CTV "news" report on Palestine. And once annoyance after another came to me mind that I must write about some day. Not tonight. Tonight is just about things I should write about - and I thought maybe it might get you thinking, and sending in things that have always bugged you. 1. The CTV news on Palestine was so biased and ignorant it was painful to watch. These TV news bits with there exquisitely coiffed women news readers, and the men, usually men, who claim t... more »

Time Is Running Out - Iraq Edition

Nima Shirazi at Wide Asleep in America - 2 days ago
Whenever the United States or its partners in war crimes face a seemingly intractable foreign adversary - one that refuses to simply yield to Western domination or diktat - the "ticking clock" paradigm is invoked, lending a fierce urgency to the threats, ultimatums, and bullying demands made by government officials. For them, time is always running out. Whether it's the non-existent "
