Here Paul Craig Roberts has excerpted some of the remarks by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with Russia's ambassadors on July 1, 2014. Notably, there was no mention of these remarks on BBC online news, CNN, the Los Angeles Times, or the New York Times. The Washington Post did mention that Putin had condemned the renewed violence in Ukraine at that meeting, but the importance of these remarks was not explained by the Post’s report. Thus, Americans who get their news strictly from the complicit "mainstream media" are not informed that their government is deliberately increasing the probability that they may someday die from weapons of mass destruction, totally ignorant of the reason why.

Refusal to dismiss or stay action for lack of jurisdiction is a final order
Hopkins v. Kay, 2014 ONCA 514:
[9] In my view, the refusal to dismiss or stay the action based on
lack of jurisdiction was a final order. See *Manos Foods International Inc.
v. Coca-Cola Ltd*., [1999] O.J. No. 3623 (C.A.), and *Abbott et al. v.
Collins et al.* (2002), 62 O.R. (3d) 99 (C.A.). Where, as here, the effect
of the order is that the action is going to proceed in the Superior Court,
the consequence is that the defendant is precluded from continuing to
dispute the court's jurisdiction over the subject matter of the action. The
order therefore is final on the jurisdi... more »

It’s a bugger when you get discredited by your own side. If the murder of
the Palestinian teenager does turn out to be a revenge attack by some
vigilante maniac, it is a shame for so many reasons.
First because it’s the murder of a young boy. Next because it sabotages the
moral high ground that was just about the only hope for the salvation of
Israel’s reputation in the eyes of the rest of the world. A small hope, but
nevertheless a glimmer.
Not that their reputation is Israel’s top priority. I imagine making the

The Angelitos Felices gang gets a great new home

Alienating People
I have been accused of being cynical. My condemnations of the left's
incompetence is based on cynicism. Personally, I have always thought that a
cynic is someone who sees ulterior motives behind other people's actions,
or who acts dishonestly, not believing in the task that he or she is
undertaking, believing that it will fail.
Here's the dictionary definition of "cynicism":
1. distrusting or disparaging the motives of others; like or characteristic
of a cynic.
2. showing contempt for accepted standards of honesty or morality by one's
actions, especially by actions that exploit the... more »

Terrorism is not a new phenomenon. But today's terrorists, be they

ominously, terrorists may gain access to weapons of mass destruction,

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)- “Telling Congress, “It’s O.K., I don’t

Here Paul Craig Roberts is interviewed on The Voice of Russia regarding Washington's foreign policy, which is becoming increasingly unpopular in the U.S. and increasingly menacing in Ukraine and Russia. PCR's opening statement is "I think, perhaps, Americans are catching on to all of the lies. There are now other sources of information, other than the English-speaking Western media. And the account that the US gives, for example, of Ukraine is clearly a lie. And it takes a while before people catch on to the lies." This Russian English-language radio program is quite long, requiring two separate audio files, each taking about a minute to download. The transcript is in good English but leaves out a small amount of material, particularly near the end. But no matter, just listen to PCR's highly instructive replies to the questions put to him.

Yesterday Digby explained the tragedy of HRC abandoning one of the LGBT
communities most dedicated advocates, Shenna Bellows, on behalf of Collins.
They say that no good deed goes unpunished and nothing illustrates the
truth of that old trope more vividly that... more »
Canada's Veterans On Canada Day
http://www.cbc.ca
As we celebrate our good fortune today, we would do well to remember this
country's veterans. Stephen Harper rode to power espousing a new
militarism. But, Jeffrey Simpson writes, Harper and Co only love the
military in theory. They don't put their money where their mouths are:
Capital spending on military equipment has declined four years in a row and
remains on a downward trend. As a share of the defence budget, capital
spending has dropped to the lowest level since 1977-78.

*The Rot of Intolerance at Swarthmore*
It’s nice when they make things perfectly clear. You step on to a college
campus and you are beset by people parading around telling you how much
they love “diversity.” Then you find out that when anyone who holds an
opinion not perfectly in line the the contemporary gospel of
race-gender-environmental sensitivity, they are shouted off campus. If
they had been invited to speak at campus, they are disinvited, or if that
wasn’t possible their appearance is subjected to sophomoric protests. As I
put it last month in The New Criterion, contempor... more »
9 Things Every Teen Should Know About Workplace Rights
If you're in high school or college, odds are you're looking for a summer
job or internship. Maybe you're even working during the school year. Of
course, your school gave you detailed preparation on what your legal rights
are when you work. Right? Ha. Not a chance. Schools do roughly zip to
prepare teens for the real world workplace. You have to figure this stuff
out on your own.
Well, I'm here to help. I wrote last week about sexual harassment, but
there's more you need to know. If you're new to the workplace or getting
ready to apply for an internship, this is the article for you.... more »
“Facebook’s Emotional Contagion”
*“Facebook’s Emotional Contagion”*
by Pivotfarm
“For a while now it has been well proven beyond a shadow of a doubt by
scientific research (Cornell and California Universities) that there is a
phenomenon called ‘emotional contagion’, meaning that it is possible to
induce a state of either happiness or sadness in someone, by inducing that
feeling and emotion without their knowledge or awareness.
Up until now the experiments have only been carried out in laboratories.
But, now that Facebook has come clean and admitted that users of the social
network were induced into feeling either ... more »
Facebook Emotional Manipulation Experiment: A Collection of Readings
I will not make a real post of my own re the already infamous experiments
(initially claimed to be military funded, but that, it seems, was a hoax),
where Facebook allowed behavioural researchers to manipulate the allocation
of status updates in personal feeds, to study the resulting emotional
communicative behaviour of users. My own brief take is that, whatever else
may be said on the matter, this is definitely not covered by the user
agreement I've signed when joining Facebook. For while I did agree to
Facebook testing out all sort of things to improve their service, I did
certain... more »
Big Greenwald Story Delayed by US Government
Yesterday, Pulitzer prize winning journalist Glenn Greenwald let the news
slip via Twitter that the long-awaited, new NSA story was to be published
on The Intercept at midnight. This morning, much to the dismay of myself
and many, many others it appears that the new website - already
suspiciously devoid of material - has caved to government pressure tactics
and has successfully delayed the story. According to a cryptic Tweet by
Greenwald *"After 3 months working on our story, USG today suddenly began
making new last-minute claims which we intend to investigate before
publishing"*.... more »
