Revealing Some Truths About Britain's So Called "Iron Lady": Margaret Thatcher's Part In The Sinking Of The Argentinian Battleship "General Belgrano"!
Margaret Hilda Thatcher, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom between 1979

world, passed away yesterday at the age of 87. Much of the news coming

I have watched the reports over the last week about the leaking nuclear

Pol. Ideology 39: Thatcherism
The great, cool “Iron Lady” Margaret Thatcher, UK Prime Minister from
1979-1990, passed away yesterday. RIP, Margaret.
Let me start with a few quotes from this great leader.
*To cure the British disease with socialism was like trying to cure
leukaemia with leeches.*
*We want a society where people are free to make choices, to make mistakes,
to be generous and compassionate. This is what we mean by a moral society;

Hi all,
This Thursday we continue our discussion of what philosophy has to
teach economics, and vice versa.
Last week we looked at what economics takes from the “philosophic
tree”—and what it allows economics to do.
This week we complete the overview by talking about the important
lesson that economics gives back to the “tree”: a conclusion, taught and
confirmed by economic thinking, that social philosophers would ... more »

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Senate Republicans today vowed to

G.O.P. leaders lambasted the bill, arguing that the right to go to school,

Distinguished economist Michael Hudson was in England during Margaret Thatcher's rise to power. Here he tells the depressing story of how her determination to privatize every last civic function has made London the heaquarters of kleptocrats, drug lords, and dictators while in the process crushing the working and middle classes. Excerpt: "So by deregulating British banking, Margaret Thatcher led a race to the bottom of international finance. She said, we're going to be the ground floor, we're going to be the absolute bottom, deregulated, everything goes. She opened the doors for what became really the criminalized financial system that ended up wrecking AIG in America, pushing, if you noticed, the Wall Street firms like Lehman Brothers. It was all their London office where all of the real fraud and the gambling occurred."

Today seems to be Beat Up on Harry Reid Day. Dan Savage:
Republicans regard first and second graders as expendable. Wish Dems felt
the same about the filibuster.
And, sure, might as well quote Wil Wheaton:
@fakedansavage I wonder if people sending thousands of post cards that say
"I told you so" to Harry Reid would get movement on reform?
Justin Green notes that Reid has threatened majority-imposed Senate reform

But if you're a liberal, don't get your hopes up about Reid doing the same
thing to get a vote on gun control.
The why is easy: many of the Senators who ... more »
Paradise Becomes a Nightmare
It's wonderful to see that ever more people are waking up to the dangers of
pollution, and taking personal risks to stop it that would have seemed
outlandish just a year ago - such as this gallant grandma in Oklahoma, who
used a bikelock around her neck earlier today to halt excavation for the
Keystone XL pipeline. But while the article on the Great Plains Tar Sands
Resistance website talks about the health effects in neighborhoods in the
path of pipelines, from spills and emissions and chemicals, not once does
it mention climate change - let alone the global trend of forest dieback... more »
Why are the Recent Contaminated Water Spills at Tepco so Significant
Majia here: There have been many recent reports of major leaks by most, if
not all, of Tepco's water tanks used for containing radioactive water.
The reason containment leaks are significant is that the Daiichi site is
saturated with water.
Contaminated ground water at the site could contaminate the fresh water
aquifer (indeed, it probably already has).
Furthermore, contaminated ground water will pour into the basements of the
reactor buildings. Tepco cannot handle the volume of this water and has not
been successful in pumping it all out.
The possibility of highly contaminated wa... more »

The conduct of the accused while on bail prior to revocation, if applicable, may be a relevant factor in determining whether to grant enhanced credit
R. v. Morris, 2013 ONCA 223 holds:
[15] While the trial judge concluded that lack of remission on
pre-sentencing custody is not of itself a factor warranting enhanced
credit, she also reasoned, at para. 54, that while the appellant was not
detained in custody under ss. 524(4) or (8), "the conduct of the accused
while on bail prior to revocation, if applicable, may be a relevant factor
in determining whether to grant enhanced credit." She concluded that, in
this case, the circumstances were analogous to ss. 524(4) and (8), and
therefore did not justify enhanced credit.

discussions of the Atlanta public school cheating scandal.
We meant to touch on this column by Gene Robinson. Let’s do so today.
We will start with an assumption. We will assume that Robinson doesn’t
really know a whole lot about the way the public schools work. He probably
doesn’t know a whole lot about standardized testing.
There’s no reason why he should. No one’s an expert on every issue. And the

Coal mine closures
If I hear one more ex-miner celebrating the death of Lady Thatcher I might

There were more pit closures under Harold Wilson's Labour government than

I wonder why the BBC never point that out? Would it spoil their carefully

accidents of the universe but more convincingly by deliberate choice.

Even exploding directly on the border produces massive damage around

with the sugars still intact but broken down. It may well have improved
commercial value.
It is too soon to tell, but this sounds perfect for agriculture. An
internal source of energy is produced and the first step in biomass
management consists of shredding an... more »
Giant Squid
The quick take home is that the creature in its youth spans all oceans and
then as it reaches maturity drops below the surface waters into the deep.
I also think that other large creatures follow the same pathway and are
even more elusive. In particular, we have ample reason to think the sea
serpent fits this model although I also suspect that it goes deep much
sooner if not immediately once it leaves its fresh water nursery.
At least we are now establishing a real presence in the deep although
temporary. A longer lasting presence will allow us to discover most of
what i... more »
Reading Meta DNA Code
Slowly but surely, we are unraveling the mechanics of genetic coding, even
it we are a long way from truly managing it all ourselves. Yet reading
this, one cannot feel but rather hopeful that we are going to be able to
totally manage the whole story.
In the not too distant future we can expect a generation of robust
humanity working well into the parameters available to us but still totally
adapted to our world. This will be great news and welcome. We have all
lived with weaknesses and their unsatisfactory resolution.
This will be the true inheritance of mankind, par... more »
The New Scientific Revolution With Robert Sheldrake
Dark matter consists of neutral neutrinos. They represent over 96% of the
content of the universe. Importantly, they do not interact easily with
gravity until they have self assembled into a large enough grouping or even
decay into one of the particles we actually recognize. We live in an ocean
of such real particles.
This forms what I have described as Cloud Cosmology.
Every grouping forms up geometrically and then decays at some point or the
other. What is produced is a particle and a photon carrying of the surplus
curvature brought about by the decay. This produ... more »
Mapping Breath Diagnostics
The real take home is that breath testing is certain to be a diagnostic
gold mine simply because all reactions taking place inside the body
inevitably express themselves in terms of gaseous waste dumped into the
lungs.
Thus a simple protocol will be to determine and measure those outputs and
compare pathologies to establish associations. Once the foot work is well
done, we have the type of data to support almost automatic diagnostic
decisions with the use of a small handhold sensor.
I anticipate that this methodology will be far superior to other types of
tests such ... more »
Cloned Embryos of Extinct Frog
This item gives us another window on the developing discipline of
de-extinction. We all think that it is going to work and even if the road
is vastly longer, what we are learning is certain to allow some form of
recovery to take place.
I consider it completely reasonable to restore all extinct island biomes
as a matter of future consideration not because of any good compelling
reason that directly benefits ourselves, but because we really can and it
would please us.
In practice, restoring the full Ice Age biome in a continental setting is
likely stupid. Far better to... more »
liquid Layer Discovered in Mantle
This is quite shallow and would still be quite viscous. Yet there would
be the possibility of local movement and that would allow the mechanism to
translate compression forces forces throughout the plate allowing it to
creep forward as we observe. This actually resolves the whole issue
regarding plate tectonics.
The thickness allows a slow readjustment after a crustal shift has taken
place using my postulated far deeper slip plain. Curvature would be
disturbed generally and this zone would naturally release the stresses and
give us the sudden subsidence event of the At... more »
THE REAL THATCHER

*
Margaret Thatcher is one of the architects of the present economic crisis.
"Her legacy is of public division, private selfishness and a cult of greed."
"As Germany and other northern nations have shown, economic dynamism has
been possible without the squandering of social cohesion that Mrs Thatcher
promoted."

Wise words indeed from Mrs Thatcher
"The state has no source of money other than the money people earn
themselves..."
"There is no such thong as public money, there is just tax-payers money"
"Prosperity won't come by inventing more and nmore lavish public
expenditure programs"
"You don't grow richer by ordering another chequebook from the bank"
Watching this short video should be compulsory for all politicians, once or
twice a day...
I didn't agree with everything Lady Thatcher did BUT bearing in mind the
state of the nation in 1979 there really was no alternative, she was a

War crimes are being committed in Israel / Palestinian conflict
'As stone-throwing Palestinian children have been in the news lately it is
relevant to observe that enlistment of children to carry out these violent
acts is in effect no different than enlisting child soldiers, which is a
war crime in terms of Article 8(2)(b)(xxvi) of the Rome Statute of the
International Criminal Court (ICC).
The time has come to recognize that encouraging children to hurl stones and
firebombs, as well as using them as human shields, as practiced by Hamas,
cannot be described as anything but enlisting them to participate actively
in hostilities and therefore a w... more »
In The Guardian newspaper's report about this subject they quote a former Mackenzie Group economist as saying that as much as $32 trillion might be hidden away in offshore tax havens. This is roughly twice the GDP of the United States, by far the largest GDP in the world. $32 trillion is also about 13 times greater than the current funds in the Social Security Trust Fund and 246 times the $130 billion that Obama proposes to extract from Social Security over the next 10 years. So a one-time levy of just 0.4% imposed on the criminal corporation's current offshore stash could achive the exact same savings without stealing a nickel from our impoverished veterans, unemployed, and elderly.

Top 10 Books I Read Before I Was a Blogger
I started blogging five years ago. Five. It seems like a lifetime ago. I
can't specifically remember anything I read 5 years ago, but thanks to
trusty Goodreads, I was able to find some loved titles from long
ago. Linking up with The Broke and the Bookish.
1. Ella Enchanted- I know I'm an adult and this book is written for
preteens but I absolutely LOVE it. I think it will be on my favorite list
for a long time coming. In this Cinderella retelling Ella is under a curse
from a fairy that makes her compelled to be obedient. In a land of ogres,
fairies and trolls, Ella must learn ho... more »
Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline Will Be Stopped, The Battle For Life,
As you know Exxon Mobile, the company responsible for the latest oil spill
in Arkansas, the first reports that came out stated the diluted bitumen
Alberta tar oil hadn`t reached local water supplies, that lie was quickly
exposed as just that..*A blatant lie*
Then as reported here Exxon Mobile used incredible influence and flexed
their big dollar muscles and were granted a no flyover order by FAA, many
were wondering why Exxon wanted this power...We here at The Straight Goods
knew exactly why Exxon Mobile wanted a no flyover order, to keep the media
from seeing oil saturated water, ... more »

John Dean now meets with Earl Silbert, the Watergate prosecutor who had
been totally duped by the White House counsel for all these months.
Apparently the first meeting isn't as productive as it could be; Dean has
so much to tell that it's hard for them all to get it organized.
Meanwhile, during that meeting, Dean is called from Air Force One telling
him to be in Ehrlichman's office later in the afternoon. In that meeting,
with Ehrlichman and Haldeman, Dean doesn't even admit to the first Silbert
meeting, instead implying that it was still to come, and of course Dean is
still not le... more »
Gransnet launches local service aims to bring over-50s closer
T*he website Gransnet, an online society for the over-50s, is launching a
chain of local sites. *The novel service has received money from the
Nominet Trust, a charity which funds technology projects with a social
intention. Ofcom figures propose that 7.5 million UK adults have never been
online, and two fifths of those are aged over 75.
Many older people in the UK are still not online, leaving them potentially
isolated and at a difficulty. Baroness Lane-Fox supposed she hoped the
local Gransnet service, which will contain information about events,

Is there a Downside to Open Access Publishing?
Robert Farley’s post last week about how long the journal publication
process is struck a chord. One of my journal articles took three years from
submission to appearance and was gated (I had to get my own piece through
inter-library loan since it came out and the library didn’t have a

That Whole GOP Rebranding Thing A Few Weeks Ago Was Just For Silly Gooses In The Beltway Press
Reince and Jefferson Beauregard-- not a lick of difference where it matters
(except Jefferson Beauregard left his makeup kit at home when he came for
the photo-shoot)
That nasty KKK senator from Alabama, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III,
apparently never got-- or maybe never bothered to read-- the memo about how
the Republican Party is making a concerted effort to woo immigrants from
Latin America and Asia into the new post-bigoted GOP. Just after midnight,
on March 23, as the vote on the budget approached, Sessions offered a
rather hateful amendment which lost on a mostly party-lin... more »
