In early 2018, the AK-12 made by Kalashnikov Concern was officially recommended by the Russian Ministry of Defense for adoption by the Russian Army. This marked the probable end of a long search for the next rifle for the Russian military. But the adopted rifle was ... more »

Second wave feminism and assault
Forty-five years ago I'd occasionally attend a "consciousness raising" group during the blossoming of second wave feminism. I wrote book reviews for a female publication put out by some OSU librarian-feminists. Women studies departments were being developed to capitalize on the interest. It was the era of “women’s lib.” I don't recall the homes exactly, but they were in the OSU campus area. And were at night! Sitting on the floor with our arms wrapped around legs seemed to be required, even if there was a free chair in the room. I may have attended with a woman in my neighborhood... more »

Constitutional Rot Reaches the Supreme Court
The fight over the Kavanaugh appointment exemplifies our country's advanced case of constitutional rot. The rot has been growing for some time, and has now reached the Supreme Court of the United States. The Supreme Court is unlikely to save us from decay. We will have to do that ourselves. As I have argued in this lecture, our country has gone through cycles of constitutional rot and renewal throughout its history. We are at (what we can only hope is) the most extreme point in a cycle of constitutional rot. Unfortunately, we are also at the high point of a cycle of party polariza... more »

OH CRAP, WE'RE IN ANOTHER "DONALD TRUMP JUST BECAME PRESIDENT" MOMENT
We can complain all we want about White House suck-ups at *The New York Times,* but right now the worst piece of Trump hagiography is in *The Washington Post,* carrying a byline that names four of the paper's top reporters. How bad is it? Here's the headline on the front page of the *Post* site: The story itself begins with a different breathless quote about Trump: "Willing to go to the mat." It gets worse -- and more breathless -- from there: Again and again, President Trump was instructed not to do it. But such inquiries are like puzzling over the question whether we are now asleep or awake. And all such questions have the same meaning. The benefits of fossil fuels to human health and welfare far outweigh the costs
“IPCC and its national counterparts have not conducted proper cost-benefit analyses of fossil fuels, global warming, or regulations designed to force a transition away from fossil fuels, nor are they likely to do so given their political agendas. The CBAs … Continue reading →

"Inverted Global Yield Curve Creates 'The Perfect Cocktail For A Liquidity Crunch' As The IMF Warns Of 'A Second Great Depression'”
*"Inverted Global Yield Curve Creates 'The Perfect Cocktail * *For A Liquidity Crunch' As The IMF Warns Of 'A Second Great Depression'”* by Michael Snyder "Why would the IMF use the phrase “a second Great Depression” in a report that they know the entire world will read? To be more precise, the IMF stated that “large challenges loom for the global economy to prevent a second Great Depression”. Are they saying that if we do not change our ways that we are going to be heading into a horrific economic depression? Because if that is what they are trying to communicate, they would be ex... more »
How The Deep State Made Commander Kavanaugh – An Intersectional Analysis (II)
The battle for the US Supreme Court unveils the entrenched structure of white supremacism as a global system of patriarchy. Brett Kavanaugh’s approval reveals how the patriarchal oppression and domination of women is a core structural feature of the Empire in its effort to consolidate the dying paradigm of endless extraction. Bully-boy tactics
Most nights BBC Newsdesk and Planning editor Neil Henderson tweets out the newspaper front pages under the hashtag #tomorrowspaperstoday. Or occasionally his colleague Helena Lee does it, if he's off. All they do is to tweet the front page of every newspaper without comment. Most people appreciate their nocturnal activity but, of course, you can't please everyone - especially those who object to the paper or the headline being tweeted. (Quite a lot think the BBC shouldn't be tweeting papers like the *Express* and the *Mail *for example). With surprising regularity, many such peo... more »
My Thoughts On The Awarding Of The Nobel Peace Prize To Nadia Murad And Denis Mukwege
The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict https://t.co/4H91woKf4r pic.twitter.com/r6kf4CYjQB — CNN (@CNN) October 6, 2018 *WNU editor:* When I started this blog 11 years ago one of the first posts that I did was on the use of mass rape by Sri Lankan soldiers on Tamils during their civil war. Since then I have lost count on how many posts I have done covering conflicts where sexual crimes were committed on a massive scale. It was also during this time that I ... more »

Is America's M1 Abrams Tank Obsolete?
*Charlie Gao* *Security, * [image: (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Steven M. Colvin/Released)] While the M1 Abrams was outgunned when it first entered production, since the M1A1 entered service in 1985 it has become one of the most lethal tanks in the world with its 120mm gun. Has it kept up? In the 1970s, the situation for NATO tank forces in Europe was grim. The program to develop the next generation battle tank for both Germany and the United States, the MBT-70, was about to crumble and fail, and the next generation of Soviet tanks was about to reach the front lines. The tank ... more »
When Emily Met Stormy
Emily Maitlis (l); Stormy Daniels (r) On Twitter at least, last night's *Newsnight *went down like a lead balloon strapped to the back of an overweight rhinoceros that's just leaped out of an aeroplane with a concrete parachute. Hundreds upon hundreds of tweets chirruped forth slamming the programme for "tabloid gossip", "disgusting journalism", "salacious gutter press nonsense" "drivel", "trash", etc. The most commonly-asked question was, "How low can the BBC go?". Why? Because the programme interviewed 'adult film star' Stormy Daniels (who has a book out) about Mr Trump and his... more »

A whopping 87% of the panels had a Remainer majority – only ... more »
Qanon DEEP STATE defenses Breached
Today should see Kavanagh seated in the supreme Court. That provides the five man plurality blocking interference with the application of military tribunals in order to circumvent the deeply infiltrated judiciary. Just in case you wondered why it has taken do long to execute on 55,677 sealed indictments. Recall that the one hard fact we actually have to hand is the electronic filing of those sealed indictments. This round up will include the use of the Marines in particular and likely many other government assets in support. By this point housing has been arranged as well. A... more »
Signed Executive Orders reveal Trump is planning mass arrests, military tribunals for deep state traitors
This has been out for sometime and it is what this is all heading for. Thus we see the natural desperation of the so called left. It is still an arm wrestle but we now have 55,6077 sealed indictments and we are days away from having control of the supreme court. The President has determined that there is a Socialist insurrection underway and he is moving against it. The shock of seeing perhaps of hundreds of actual traitors been shot should allow for a major global settlement as well. Please do observe though that Trump undertakes one major thing at a time. Fully reformi... more »
Here Comes the 30-Year Trade War
What is at stake her is that China needs to completely reform it internal economic and political systems wghich they have put off for a long time allowing only small incremental shifts. Most of what we see now will be settled rather quickly. Confronting China over its dirty tricks can be charged out by charging out the costs and then negotiating a resolution. This really needs to be done. While this is been done, The USA can simply declare China as a non conforming member and block USA investment, encouraging transition to India and elsewhere. This will force corporations ... more »
The Community in Hawaii Stepped In Beautifully When the Government Failed to Help People Displaced by a Volcano
As one might expect, FEMA is deeply corrupted and must be rebuilt. Yet the proper idea may well be the empowering of the natural community that arises out of a natural disaster and second government to the task of expediting at the point of need and to the natural leadership. Rule of twelve anyone? A single agent with the ability to disburse funds to local contractors on the spot can work wonders. All subject to audit after the emergency with a proscribed profit margin. That alone mobilizes everyone just after the initial shock has worn off. In the case cited, volunteers mob... more »

Midnight Meme Of The Day!
*by Noah* Republican hyper-disrespect for women: It's in their DNA. It's who they are. Or, to put it this way: When it comes to sexual assault and rape, Republicans offer smirks and winks, not even their disingenuous "thoughts and prayers." It doesn't end there, of course. For instance, when it comes to equal pay for women doing equal work, Republicans take a totally activist approach: They voted against it as recently as 2012. And, lest you think that what we've seen from Republicans during the Kavanaugh hearings is anything new; in 1980, Republicans voted against women being all... more »

Brett Kavanaugh: Key senators back embattled Supreme Court choice the BBC News can use analogies that Conservative MPs can't
This BBC report https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-45766729 includes some 'Analysis' from, in my view TDS sufferer, Anthony Zurcher, BBC North America reporter: '... Now that the bombs have been thrown, it's time to assess the fallout.' Presumably at the BBC it's a good thing to use 'bombs' analogies but not 'suicide vests', but I don't see the massive difference in offence caused by the two expressions.

How the Supreme Court Could Now End the Climate Wars
Many climate skeptics were hopeful that the election of Donald Trump would end the climate wars in the US on favorable terms. Many of us assumed that this would be done by persuading EPA to overturn the greenhouse gas Endangerment Finding (EF). But so far all that has happened is that a number of Obama […]
