VP Pence: Khashoggi’s Death Will Not Go Without US Response

Associated Press at Snopes.com - 12 hours ago
Mike Pence declined to discuss what punitive action the U.S. might take in response to the death of the Washington Post columnist and critic of the Saudi kingdom.
( Given the response to 9/11 - including the invasion of Afghanistan because they did not hand over a Saudi prince without due process ; or perhaps the invasion of Iraq because they were making fertilizer from yellowcake using aluminum tubes for processing - I have little confidence that US response will make any kind of sense )

Why the Greatest Battleship Battle of All-Time Never Happened

Robert Farley at Test Feed Using Fields - 12 hours ago
*Robert Farley* *Security, * It started a revolution instead. Nearly a century ago, the Grand Fleet of the Royal Navy and the High Seas Fleet of the German Imperial Navy very narrowly avoided a battle that would have exceeded even Jutland in size and scope. Between them, the British, the Americans and the Germans fielded nearly seventy battleships and battlecruisers, the greatest concentration of firepower and tonnage until the great battles of World War II. The battle didn’t happen for the simplest of reasons; German sailors didn’t want to die for a lost cause. *The Plan: * O... more »

This most recent modification to the B61 nuclear weapon is designed to improve the weapon's accuracy and that allows it to be equipped so that various attack options can be used depending on the mission. I'm getting more and more annoyed by claims from liberal and left-wing politicians that we need to provide more money for entitlement programs, social support programs, community development efforts, and the like. We don't. The facts speak for themselves. Since 1966, the first year with a significant increase in antipoverty spending, the poverty rate reported by the Census Bureau has been virtually unchanged. Last night, John Tory was elected mayor of Toronto for the second time. His real opponent was never Jennifer Keesmaat. It was Doug Ford. His real nemesis has been, and will be, Ford — that shape-shifting mirage who long aspired to replace him as mayor, but has now one-upped him as premier. That Tory so handily won re-election is mostly thanks to Ford abruptly opting out of their looming confrontation last January, when he seized upon the easier pat... more »
