ICYMI: Return To Running Edition (8/12)

Peter Greene at CURMUDGUCATION - 12 hours ago
Last night my wife finally returned to running after a couple of years without a race (something about growing a pair of tiny humans) so that was exciting. But here, as on every Sunday, I've got a list of things from the week that deserve your attention. Remember to pass along those that speak to you. *Your Back To School Messages Are Hurting Teachers* Shanna Peeples with a great piece about "inspiring" teachers. *Betsy DeVos McMansion Hell* The brains behind the website McMansion Hell takes a look at the DeVos estate and finds it lacking. Two of the better analysts out there.....

Bruce K. Gagnon at Organizing Notes - 12 hours ago
Mr. Big is losing his battle to turn us all into slaves - high-tech feudalism. Hollywood has been showing us the future for years - wearing the spirit of the public down so they will surrender to corporate control. One of the few things we have available to deal with our technological caging is ironically the Internet. The crackdown to take that away from us has begun. This video delves into this important element in the battle for control of the public mind. Our rights to think and communicate are under assault. It's really that stark now - we are here.....and the moment is a... more »

GOP Establishment Thinks Their Own Arizona Base In Too Crazy To Be Trusted In Primaries-- Begs Trump To Calm Them Down

Ayn Rand; Jean-Paul SartreJean-Paul Sartre started calling himself an existentialist in the 1930s. To explain the tenets of his philosophy he wrote like a novelist—which is not a cause for surprise since he was a fiction writer. In 1938 he came up with a novel called *Nausea* which is regarded as a manifesto of existentialism. He went on to write several philosophy books to further explain his ideas on existentialism. Like Sartre, Ayn Rand too was a fiction writer; unlike him she did not give a name to her philosophy in the initial years of her writing career. Her novel *The Founta... more »

*But won't it break?* Can you encounter redheads in Czechia? You bet. Over percent – and around two percent at some places. Czech-German singer Debbi (Deborah Kahl) wanted to Touch the Sun – while others wanted to use the song to touch Metaxa, a fancy Greek alcoholic beverage. She was standing on shoulders of giants but it wasn't full-blown plagiarism because Erin McKeown is a redhead, too. McKeown named her song Slung-Lo but she clearly meant the gravitational slingshot. Today, NASA successfully launched the Parker Solar Probe from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The gadget – which ... more »
