Sometimes Voters Just Want Straight Talk, Especially On Something As Important As Fracking
Hillary's on shaky ground whenever she gets backed into a corner regarding progressive issues. She's a conservative corporate Democrat trying to pretend she's a progressive for the sake of a primary fight with someone who is and a Democratic electorate that more and more frequently identifies as progressive and liberal. Her deceptive attacks on him as a gun-coddler and her absurd claims that Wall Street and Big Pharma and other of the most toxic special interests in the country, are opposing her, are party of a well-thought-out campaign strategy of obfuscation and deceit. With full U.S., British, Israeli, Qatari, and Turkish support, its momentum will sweep aside Saudi rulers and revive medieval fantasies of an Islamic Caliphate dominating the majority of the Muslim world. * There are signs that U.S. support for the House of Saud is ending. And the reason is not because Washington has suddenly grown a conscience. More nefarious motives explain why Washington has decided to finish off Saudi Arabia now that it no longer serves any useful purpose in the regional order in... more »
Afghan Soldiers Desert And Are Now Joining The Ranks Of The Taliban In Helmand Province
*CNN:* *Afghan soldiers desert as Taliban threaten key Helmand capital* Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN)Sometimes you know a war's going badly when your enemy is right in front of you. About 3 miles outside the southern city of Lashkar Gah, Afghan soldiers can see a white flag. It's not one of surrender -- quite the opposite. The flag belongs to the Taliban, and shows exactly how close the militant group is to the capital of Helmand province. Despite Afghan government assurances that the army can hold and retake ground, the strategic province that hundreds of NATO troops -- who have been... more »
Sudan's Darfur Region Votes In Referendum Over State Unification. Rebels Are Boycotting The Vote
Reuters: *Sudan's Darfur votes on political future, rebels cry foul* Darfur residents began voting on Monday in a referendum on whether to reunite their arid western region into one entity, a poll Sudan says will settle an issue at the heart of the long-running conflict. The Sudanese government's decision to split Darfur into three states in 1994 helped fuel discontent that erupted into fighting in 2003. Rebels and the large Fur tribe said the break-up allowed Khartoum to dive and rule them. Sudan, which later split Darfur further into five states, has presented this week's vote ... more »

Ukraine To Get A New Government After The Resignation of The Prime Minister
*RFE: Volodymyr Hroysman:* Ukraine's Likely Next Prime Minister Is Loyal Poroshenko Ally The man identified by Ukraine's outgoing prime minister as his successor, Volodymyr Hroysman, is a 38-year-old loyalist of President Petro Poroshenko who was thrust onto the national scene after the Euromaidan unrest that toppled a government. Hroysman's meteoric rise from mayoral upstart to speaker of a notoriously obstreperous parliament was fueled in part by perceptions that a relative outsider with little political baggage could unite rival lawmakers, but it also prompted questions about ... more »

The Truth About The "War" In Syria: US, UK, Turkey Special Forces Aiding ISIS In Syria!
For the last several YEARS I have been stating what should be obvious to everyone... That the war in Syria is for nothing more than to destroy that nation and to have the peaceful and popular government of Bashar al-Assad overthrown.... It is also part of the diabolical "Greater Israel" project that calls for the destruction of all of the psychotic and criminal state of Israel's neighboring nations.... Israel has always wanted full hegemony over the entire Middle East and to see every single Arab nation destroyed or to be subjugated under its control... The psychotic Israelis care no... more »
Dennis Skinner Booted From Parliament For Labelling PM ‘Dodgy Dave’
Labour Member of Parliament Dennis Skinner was thrown out of the House of Commons today for calling Prime Minister David Cameron ‘Dodgy Dave’. The 84-year-old MP for Bolsover used commoners’ language in the house that compelled Speaker John Bercow to banish him from the chamber for the rest of the day. Dennis Skinner did not follow establishment rules and code of honor. The former miner and the man who represents the common man tried to give up on political correctness, as is the norm these days in modern politics. Ravitch Labels Sanders Remarks "Dreadful and Petulant"
When Clinton lost the Wisconsin primary, her campaign devised a new strategy as they headed toward New York: paint Sanders as unqualified to be President. The next day she launched the new smear tactics. From WaPo: Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton on Wednesday questioned whether her rival in the Democratic presidential primary, Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.), is qualified to be president. "I think he hadn't done his homework and he'd been talking for more than a year about doing things that he obviously hadn't really studied or understood," Clinton said in an interview on MSNB... more »

Some people are taking issue with a very peculiar thing that may or may not be a coincidence. Just one day after the now infamous Panama Papers were released, the IRS headquarters caught on fire. Now it is closed all week for repairs. Was the IRS trying to hide something? The AP writes: The agency said in a news release Tuesday that Monday afternoon’s fire affected the air handling system. No one was hurt in the fire. The IRS says telework-ready employees are expected to telework from their approved location. Officials say tax returns are not processed at headquarters; taxpayers sh... more »
Government “Dirty Secret”: Jury Nullification To Be Made Public
A large majority of U.S. citizens are completely unaware of a little thing called jury nullification. In essence, it gives members of a jury the power to throw an entire lawsuit out and acquit a criminal even if the state has done its job proving the defendant guilty. A good example of this would be if an older man was arrested and on trial for growing medicinal marijuana in his own backyard for personal use. Let’s say the man is facing 20 years in prison and a steep fine. Now, this is where it gets interesting… Usually if the state (or whoever is prosecuting the older man) proved to... more »

*“Surrender To Facts”* by Chet Raymo “I'm currently reading two books. One I found in the house when I arrived, presumably left by a previous visitor: Cheryl Strayed's "Wild", a young woman's attempt to sort out her messed-up life and grief for her mother's death by hiking alone on the Pacific Crest Trail, many hundreds of miles along the ridges of California's Sierra Nevada and Oregon's Cascades mountains. "Path to the Great Reset?"
*"Path to the Great Reset?"* By Joe Withrow "Gold has been money for most of recorded human history. Industrial capitalism operated on a global gold standard up until the world wars shredded Europe’s economy. In 1933, President Roosevelt criminalized private gold ownership using an executive order, and the U.S. government forced citizens to sell their gold at a below-market valuation. This gold was melted down into bricks and shipped to Fort Knox where KPMG says it still sits to this day. The Bretton Woods Agreement was executed in 1944, which pegged the U.S. dollar to gold at $35...more »

How The Longbow Changed Warfare
*Robert Bateman, Daily Beast*: *How the Longbow Ended Knights in Shining Armor* *Historians love watershed moments, and few in military history in the West were as important as the battle of Crecy in 1346.* Here is the short version: In the summer of 1346 the English kicked the snot out of the French in one of the most lopsided military victories of the Middle-Ages. It was the first of the major stompings of the French by the English in what is now known as the Hundred-Years War. At issue was who should rule most, if not all, of France: Edward III of England or Phillip VI of Fran... more »

*from the last post.* *Answer: Mansfield bar * On June 29, 1967, Jayne Mansfield, an up and coming 34-year old film actress, was traveling to New Orleans from Biloxi, Mississippi, where she had been performing at a local nightclub. She was in the front seat of a 1966 Buick Electra along with the driver, Ron Harrison, and her boyfriend at the time, Sam Brody. Three of her five children were in the back seat asleep. Half of Long Island Students Opted Out of Testing Last Week
from the Wall Street Journal: The number of students who opted out of state tests in Long Island rose to more than 97,500 this week, according to tallies by test-refusal advocates—or about half of the students in grades three through eight. Long Island Opt Out, which has promoted the movement, said Friday it had volunteers cull numbers from officials and teachers in 124 districts this week. The group lacked data for six districts. The group said the boycott grew from last spring, when it said 82,492 Long Island students opted out of at least one of the three days of English langua... more »
How Speed, Steroids, And Painkillers Became 'Standard Gear' For U.S. Soldiers
*US Army, Wikipedia* *Lukasz Kamienski, The Atlantic*: *The Drugs That Built a Super Soldier* During the Vietnam War, the U.S. military plied its servicemen with speed, steroids, and painkillers to help them handle extended combat. Some historians call Vietnam the “last modern war,” others the “first postmodern war.” Either way, it was irregular: Vietnam was not a conventional war with the frontlines, rears, enemy mobilizing its forces for an attack, or a territory to be conquered and occupied. Instead, it was a formless conflict in which former strategic and tactical principles di... more »

Will RussiaAand China Become Strong Allies?
*Jacob Shapiro, Geopolitical Futures:* *Will Russia and China Become Allies?* *Summary: The idea that Russia and China are going to become close allies fails to account for the constraints and geopolitical imperatives of both countries. In this case, the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend.* The United States is the world's dominant power, and is without peer. But Russia and China ar... more »
Friends Who Die Before Their Time
The death of a friend is always hard. The death of a friend who died well before their time is even harder. I've seen too many people die of cancer in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. I've seen even more people whose lives were profoundly disrupted and probably shortened by aggressive cancers. Especially since Fukushima. Thyroid cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer top the list but there are many forms that have afflicted my friends. So many of these cancers likely derive from the chemical and radioactive pollution we generate with our risk-laden "defense," energy, chemical, and agricu... more »

Looming over the two days of talks between Kerry and other G7 foreign ministers is the location itself, which was devastated when the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on the city in August 1945. The bomb, which led to the end of World War II, killed 140,000 people. Three days later, the U.S... more »
Springsteen's Cancellation In North Carolina Tonight Represents A Vital All-American Tradition
"If Woody Guthrie were alive today, he'd have a lot to write about: high times on Wall Street and hard times on Main Street," Springsteen told his Madison Square Garden audience in 2009 as he brought out Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello for a powerful rendition of "The Ghost of Tom Joad," a song Springsteen wrote in 1995. That's it above. Tom Joad was a John Steinbeck character from *The Grapes of Wrath* (1939) about whom Woody Guthrie sang (below). There is a colossal battle for the soul of the Democratic Party raging right now. The music of Springsteen and Guthrie represe... more »

The Tragedy of William Stark, who conclusively proved that eating crap will kill you, by a process of self-experimentation, in 1770, a fact which more people should pay attention to.
How did I not know about William Stark MD? Born in Birmingham of an Irish mother and a Scottish father, he studied philosophy in Glasgow and medicine in Edinburgh and at the University of Leiden before going to work as a doctor in London in 1765. "The person on whom these experiments are tried is a healthy man, about twenty-nine years of age, six feet high, stoutly made, but not corpulent, of a florid complexion, with red hair." However, the Doctor who attended his final hours writes "He was of a fair complexion, tall, of a thin make, and healthful." In 1769 Stark began a series ... more »
"The Will To Truth..."
"The will to truth is enshrined in the mind. It is undeniable, inescapable, mutable only if one's humanity itself is rejected, itself muted. Yet the form of this truth, whether it be elaborate, simple, exclusive and regulatory or comprehensive and positive… this is a matter of aesthetics, taste. It is all inherently meaningless, the puzzle just as much as the pieces themselves, ephemeral. Yet more than this it is concrete, eternal, heavy and inescapable, a preponderous amalgam of things small and large, the actuality of which is imminent, the meaning of which is too great to acknow... more »

April 10: 2016: something a little different
I have a friend who is devoutly Christian. As a Christian, he believes in the concept of the "end times" when the world will come to an end, Jesus will return to earth, and the dead will rise, and all people living and dead will be judged, and sent to heaven or to hell. Some Christians I have known are almost hysterical with joy that the end times are here. All the signs they look for are here - the unending wars, the re-creation of Biblical Israel, nuclear weapons. And now, fer sure, fer sure, the fighting in the middle east. That's a big sign I have known some so hysterical with j... more »
