10:31pm MDSTWill Alex Law Actually Hoist The Norcross Machine On Its Own Petard?
*Team Alex* It's been a long hard climb for Alex Law in his campaign for South Jersey's first congressional district, currently controlled by the blatantly corrupt Norcross Machine, which installed Donald Norcross last year when their last puppet, Rob Andrews, was told my federal investigators to either resign immediately or face prison. Two more months to go and Law continues gaining momentum in the district across the river from Philly, a district where the media doesn't even pretend that they can't cover the race in any way that would offend the Norcross Machine. In fact, the No... more »

“The Universalisability of Western Civilisation”
If we are to defend western civilisation, we must at least understand it. I’ve heard it argued, for example, that the defining characteristic of western civilisation is that it is Ango-Saxon. This is not just nonsene; it’s nasty – and in today’s interconnected world, it’s dangerous nonsense. The truth, as George Reisman so patiently explains below, is that Western civilisation is neither Anglo-Saxon nor Semitic: it is the property of no particular race or of any particular ethnic group. This is of course one of its many great virtues. It’s a very important concept for would-be... more »
April 1: you have to learn to hate...
...luckily, it's easy to teach. Section A has its usual display of non-news - like court reports, government announcements that it's getting ready to do something. It's trivial; but it's cheap; and it requires no digging at all for information. As for the editorial, well, if you missed yesterday's propaganda 'news' that the Atlantic Insitute of Market Studies (an institute with a history of Irving connections) says we should lower taxes, the editorial repeats it for us. And it adds the old, rallying cry for all the workers of this province who depend on government medicare, free pu... more »
Hillary Caught On Tape Lying About Bernie Again-- In A Big Way
Donald Trump may be the biggest liar in the 2016 field but without that freak of nature in the campaign, it would certainly be Hillary Clinton in the #1 spot. She lies in a more standard politician fashion, like Cruz and Kasich. Her campaign is built on lies by professional liars (lobbyists). Her political career is built on lies. But all over the media ythis morning was her statement from yesterday: "I am so sick of the Sanders campaign lying about me." Despite her bout of well-rehearsed anger, the problem is that she's, once again, full of crap. The Sanders campaign isn't lying ... more »

Syria Still Had Ties To Iraq’s Insurgency In 2011
When the Syrian civil war broke out at the start of 2011 Iraqi officials were still complaining about its support for the insurgency. In June, the head of the Anbar council’s security committee said that President Assad was a threat to Iraq. (1) He went on to say that in January militants were caught crossing over from Syria with help from Damascus. As early as 2002 Assad began allowing its nationals and other Arabs to go to Iraq to prepare to fight the impending American invasion. That process continued afterward. By 2008, Damascus was trying to repair relations with Baghdad as it... more »

“We are not here in this world to find elegant solutions, pregnant with initiative, or to serve the ways and modes of profitable progress, No, we are here to provide for all those who are weaker and hungrier, more battered and crippled than ourselves. That is our only certain good and great purpose on earth, and if you ask me about those insoluble economic problems that may arise if the top is deprived of their initiative, I would answer, ‘To hell with them.’ The top is greedy and mean and will always find a way to take care of themselves. They always do.”

WW3: North Korea Threatens China With Nuclear War
Kim Jong-un has threatened China with a “nuclear storm” calling his old ally “the detested enemy” for taking part in recent UN sanctions against North Korea. The Mirror reports: The portly despot reportedly launched a scathing attack on Beijing for taking part in UN sanctions against his regime. Officials circulated a document dated March 10 which slams China for “betraying socialism” and threatens to clamp down on them with the force of “a nuclear storm.” It states: “We must no longer go easy on the Chinese and instead deal with them equally in order to change their attitude of tak... more »

North Korea Is Now Threatening China With Nuclear War
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reportedly lost patience with China. Reuters *Digital Journal*: *North Korea threatens China with 'nuclear storm'* Tensions are increasing between long-time allies North Korea and China, and now, the hermit-state has actually threatened China with nuclear retaliation. For years now, North Korea has had only one ally, China. The vast majority of goods coming in and out of the reclusive dictatorship come from China, as does much of the country's aid. And when relations have broke down with the rest of the world, it was often China mediating the te... more »
BWorld 52, Tax reform proposals for the Philippines
* This is my article in BusinessWorld yesterday. In two weeks, it will be the deadline for the filing of income tax by individuals and corporations. April 15 each year is a reminder for many people of how much of their monthly or annual income goes to the government, aside from the various consumption-based taxes (VAT, excise tax, vehicle registration tax, and so on) that they pay. With the ASEAN economic integration that occurred at the start of 2016, there is both business competition and complementation among firms and individuals that are based in the 10 member-countries. Sonified raw Higgs data sound like Beethoven, Wagner
LIGO's gravitational waves sound like music of a sort. Particle physicists at CERN have finally transformed the Higgs-producing proton-proton collision data into musical patterns carefully and the result was somewhat surprising. The spectrum almost exactly resembles Ludwig van Beethoven's Fateful Fifth Symphony (for Japanese readers, it is the Anthem of Asagohan Breakfasts; don't forget that if you need a Japanese loan, tomate natotata). You can see that the accuracy is overwhelming – famous CERN professors such as Rebeca Einstein were literally dancing to the tune when the data w...more »
BBC news
There's a *lot* of stuff about the BBC this morning, online and in the papers... According to *Breitbart London*, Bill Sherman, Director of BBC Music and controller of BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music, has placed a temporary ban on The Clash's *Should I stay or should I go? * The song will *not *be broadcast on any of the BBC's music stations until after the 23 June referendum. Why? The Energy Collective collapses due to gross incompetence and inability to accept criticism
The Energy Collective was recently taken over by Energy Post. This didn't have any visible consequences until just a couple days ago, when Energy Post attempted a conversion of the site from Drupal 6 to Wordpress. I've been using Wordpress for years, and had no real complaints about it. But this conversion... it was like having the Library of Congress edited and reprinted by Mad Magazine.

Ancient Pyramids Were High Frequency Power Stations
We pick up a few bits here. I find it unlikely that Napoleon had much to steal after three thousand years of looting. More problematic however, a static energy supply and the apparent battery distribution system simply would never have been allowed to shut down. Further, there is no evidence any such thing existed during the Bronze Age when this pyramid was built. That pushes us back to Pre Pleistocene Nonconformity times or before 12900 BP. What it does do is establish a plausible reason for building the original Pyramid itself. Then why did it not work or did it work but remai... more »
Police in the United States Escape Prosecution on Civil Rights 96 Percent of the Time.
Police must operate to a higher standard. Failure been ignored creates a permissive mindset and this leads to our present situation where it appears that police are now running amok. It is the inevitable slippery slope that ultimately needs to be corrected by draconian methods including retraining. *Police in the United States managed to escape prosecution when facing allegations they violated civil r... more »
'Winning' is Trump's Electoral Strategy
When Trump announced his candidacy, I understood immediately that he had one massive advantage. He already had decades of brand building behind him. While every other candidate had to spend hundreds of millions just to be remembered on election day, he already had that recognition. That meant that his real risk was in establishing credentials as a potential president. If he could do that then he had to win as no one has enough money or time to overcome the name recognition advantage. Then he went to work and he deployed what even in hindsight looks to be an absurd strategy. H... more »

Non-Fiction Review: One Minute To Midnight
I first read Michael Dobbs' *One Minute To Midnight* when it was first published, back in 2008. Both due to my general enjoyment of history and that I have an RPG campaign in the late 1950s (a few years before this) I recently listened to the unabridged audiobook version of this book. The impression I'm left with is amazement that humanity as a species survived the Cold War in general and the Cuban Missile Crisis specifically. Throughout the thirteen days of the crisis there were multiple points where war between the USA and USSR could have broken out - from the USA discovering... more »

"Why?"
"Is there an answer to the question of why bad things happen to good people? The response would be… to forgive the world for not being perfect, to forgive God for not making a better world, to reach out to the people around us, and to go on living despite it all, no longer asking why something happened, but asking how we will respond, what we intend to do now that it has happened." - Harold S.
